lowrider
How about spreading binding inserts more fore and aft for plate hardware and leave the edges of the board for the board designers! Lowrider
pokkis
Do you refer them to be still in format 4x4 but just more space between them? How much?
SunSurfer
Getting into the theoretical/hypothetical here, unless Lowrider has already done some trials of longer than 63cm outer insert distance. It struck me a while ago that the isocline plates allow us to optimise the points at which the rider's mass/momentum is applied to the board edge. (I think my previous attempts at explaining this idea were in the Plate Systems thread.) The optimum for edge hold should be where the downforce is most evenly spread along the effective edge. In a conventional setup (no plate) the rider's mass is applied to the board at points based on the rider's stance distance. These are relatively near the centre of the board, and due to the effect of torsion/twist along the length of the board, the farther you are away from the bindings towards tip and tail the less edge force is applied. A plate both makes the board more torsionally stiff or twist resistant, but enables you to make the points at which the mass is applied to the edge further from the centre. What's optimal? I don't know, but I suspect it's farther apart than the 61.5cm that is the max. avaiulable on the UPM pattern. Maybe half the effective edge distance, maybe even more given that the board between the plate mounting points is thicker and better supported than the tip & tail. There will likely be a different optimal distance depending upon board length and stiffness pattern, maybe even rider style. At World Cup / Olympic level it may be enough to make a difference. WinterGold
Buell - excellent quiver ... I was thinking about the Jones Hovercraft myself for this season, but I still have a functioning Burton Piranha, so there was no need for it ... still, it is such a beautiful board! And the Kesslers look amazing!!! The white one is so nice and the blue one is even better ... István and *Ace* and lowrider - ... Did I miss something? What are you refering to? *Ace*
Frank posted a pic of a new F2 Proto Race deck with what appeared to be, correct me if I am wrong, a Virus plate mounted on top. This plate had the controversial nose exntension on it. Not only that, but on top of the plate was the Virus Dampening pads underneath a pair of Virus Powerlock II bindings. So my question was about the new plate, and why they are running the dampening pads underneath the bindings. I appeared that Frank deleted the post though, wonder why... queequeg
I appeared that Frank deleted the post though, wonder why... I wonder if maybe it was just F2 requesting that things be kept quiet until these decks are released.

Michael Pukas
Ready or the maiden voyage! Got the Boiler Plate and TD3 SW's from Fin yesterday, Tuesday 01/11/11, got it mounted up last night and took it out for a few runs this AM @ the Beav. All I can say is, EPIC RIDE!!! I've had Sean's new Carbon board out for a few days so far this year, and haven't had a chance to blather much about it. It's a 186, 14-20-17 SCR, 4x4 + UPM. Today was the first day of riding it with Fin's plate. IMHO, this is Sean's crowning achievement in board building. After all of the proto boards he build and we test rode last spring, this final version is by far my favorite. When I asked him for a carbon fiber top sheet, I was thinking of it primarily for bling; but he said it would have a structural impact on the board and affect the performance, so he had to be careful what he used. What ever he did, it's amazing!!! Super smooth, very manageable, amazing edge hold, silky edge to edge transition. And I really like the 3-radius side cut - it allows me to tighten up a turn at the end if I need to, but I can just as easily let it run long. Call him up. Order one. You won't regret it!!! bjvircks
I'm guessing you mounted up the boilerplate to the 4x4 ? The UPM Boilerplate still not ready? the carbon/carbon setup looks killer tech.

MUD
Hey MUD, I'm curious, what angles are those bindings set at and what size are your boots? They are at 57/55. I have 29.5 UPZ's. I still have room to lower the angles without boot out.

pogokoenig
Ladia:Here is your review. The board totally rock. Rock it with FR2 with Nidecker or Podium straps. However, get the FLP. Bola Agree! However, this one is the board of my girl friend. The Avalanche is extreme fun. Nothing more to say. Powerlock binding is awesome. Extremely solid. Step-in and forget. Not too soft, not too hard. Just not there.
queequeg
Pukas - that's one hot looking deck. I'm sure it's a sick ride too. Gorgeous! Are those TD2 baseplates that you have under your sidewinders? didja do that to lower the stack height?
