So I'm a little late to the game, but here's my new Coiler 165 AM (21w, 10/12.7/12) with a custom "white rice" topsheet:

The 182 NSR and 180 VSR asym aren't mine, but I thought it'd make a nice family portrait. :D

This deck was concieved on two chairlift rides at Buttermilk and is based on Bruce's AMT-VCR. I wanted something just a little longer, but still a North Coast ripper, so we have the AMT-VCR (9.5, 10, 9.0 ish) Asymetrical core (reg), with a little' extra' in the tail 169....I'm calling the the Lividd 169. She will get her first runs on Sunday at Mt Rose....can't wait!

  • 2 weeks later...

in lieu of my ill fated flc, i picked up a couple beater boards to tie me over till next season. 156 & 174. compared to my old wrcm and (briefly fondled) flc, these things look pretty radical; lots more tip & tail decamber, and super wonky sidecuts. haven't been on snow with them yet, so no idea how they work. pretty sure i'm not worthy, but stoked regardless.

rode the kesslers for the first time today. conditions were spring splooge; not really the ideal conditions for these things, but was itching to get on them regardless.

both were very damp; kind of a quiet buttery ride, but still energetic off the tail - esp. the sl - pretty hard to keep it on the ground between carves. the gs was confidence inspiring, and surprisingly forgiving to ride. with longer rockered tip & tail, it manouvered like a much smaller board doing short radius fall line (actually worked quite well in the slurpee moguls), but locked into a carve when cranked over. pretty neat; was a bit intimidated initially, but they turned out to be fun easy riders. can't wait till i get them on proper snow (might not happen till next year, alas).

The matte or different look on the Donek is because it's a carbon board and the Gnu-like topsheet is taking on the texture and grid of the carbon underneath - not planned, but a different look nonetheless...after all season on damp and super-damp metal boards and several different plate systems I felt a little numb and was ready to go to something with a little more livelyness...have 5 full days on the board and it's really forced my riding up quite a bit, very happy.

Donek specs:

181/21

12/16/14 or so

27 nose

25 tail

stance shifted 6.5 towards the rear

The Fissile is a 178 standard width, that I ride with Ibex plates and 225s. I turn down my stance quite a bit on powder boards, especially my rear foot and with mondo 29.5s I use the width. Have had the Fissile for several weeks and have had the chance to ride probably at least 4 days for at least 2/3s of those days before having the runs cashed...it performs exactly as advertised, it really fills a void in my quiver. Not great on groomers, but better than my Fish for getting back to the frontside...

OMG OMG I cannot get the image out of my head! You and Bruce going at it on the chair! Not just once... but TWICE! Somebody kill me quick!

Sorry to get you all worked up, but it's interesting that the term "Conceive" even applies to the image in your head....but you're right in one regard there is no shortage of passion talking boards with the Master.

What's the name of your local hill? Wasn't Brokeback was it? LOL

Kinetic:

sweetness. where did the kinetic slot in relation to the antigravity? looks a bit more directional. my first board was a 1st gen (green on black) antigravity; bit of nostalgia for the old gnus.

i'd love to do a race room custom topsheet (fluoro pink squiggle on white):

I knew that one existed in Vancouver. Was trying to get it from 2007...

Photo doesn't do the justice to the wood top. She's a beauty! Never touched snow or had bindings on it, just few rub marks from kicking around over a decade...

It gets even better - waist is only 22.6 wide, perfect for hardboots! 30mm taper, pretty damn stiff - it's gonna be a pow rocket and I expect it to carve a mean turn or few. However, she'll spend most of the time as the queen of the woody collection.

.
