2017-2018 New Board Porn

Yet another awesome build from the incredible mind and hands of Mark Miller. This 2018 8R W is a 185 WARP design, featuring a new nose and tail shape, an extra layer of carbon, and a gorgeous textured / back printed nylon topsheet. I've named her Sylvia Trench (aka. Dr. No Bond Girl). She'll get her first tracks in CO, later this week.5a831fae67490_02131810162.thumb.jpg.e74f14bb419a0214eccd619b65eaad2d.jpg

I would love to try a Thirst/Mark Miller Board.
To those whom have tried both the "main stream" and Thirst:  Coiler, Donek, Kessler, Prior, SG, Virus and etc...

Need a Rosetta Stone of sort:

How does the different Thrist Model translate to said a Doenk/Coiler model?

or maybe a better questions are:

What are the major difference between each model/feature?

WARP vs non WARP? 7 vs 8? R vs X?  and etc.

maybe @BLOODTYPEZX10R can chime in :-)

I do like 1 board that does it all:
I don't race but seems to prefer race deck construction

Well, first off any comparisons between thirst, Coiler and Donek models is an oranges to apples discussion. I love my custom Coilers, I have four, my wife has one. I'm sure plenty of folks here will say the same about their Doneks.

However thirst has taken its own path to its board performance, building boards since '79 there's a plethora of experience few share. Mark uses no Titanal, only woods, carbon fiber, other damping materials and the steel edge and ptex of course. Topsheets are all a clear textured, reverse printed nylon which is far a more durable material and creates a irredescent / 3-D effect.

His dual core, twice pressed construction, and unique sidecut profiles results in a response, edge hold, and carve cleanliness like no other...skiers even notice that in the efficient pencil lines. They're happier ? Thirst's are also freaking fast, Jimmy John's fast! Gone is the need to shift weight, pedal the board, it carves a true arched line, meaning the board flex and sidecut work together, and may I say, eliminate the need for a plate ? Yes, just did. For us aging Carvers, this is well deserved.

The WARP Waist Aborated, Radias Proportioned design, lets the heel side ingage quicker making transitions more efficient as well. Its asymmetry in a symmetric package.

As far as a do it all board, I'd go with the 7 Warp Superconductor, or if you do find yourself riding switch at times, the BX.

Much like Bruce (for years), Mark seems too busy building and riding to update his website.  I myself have only ridden the WARP boards, and they are great.  7 vs 8 is just the cm range.   I also have Coilers and Doneks which are really nice rides, but the Thirst is the smoothest riding in my opinion, and the easiest to change turn shape.  GS turns right into slalom, cross under, cross over and back without much effort.  They also float amazingly well in new snow compared to most carving boards I've ridden.

Finally time for me to join the 21st century and Coiler up!

Apparently customs are afraid Canada will infect us with poutine and a health care system. That's the only explanation of why it took them a WEEK to pass this through. Still, it got in undamaged (phew) and looking awesome!!!

Can't wait to ride it on Sunday.

Coiler NFCB 174 built for a 190(ish) person with a 10/12.7/12 sidecut.

#superexcited!!!

I have to agree.... The HAL9000 eye especially.  I found a jepg with a lot of detail and it came out SPECTACULAR.

Oh, damn, of course! How I didn't figure it out right away?

It could have been on the nose, so it stares at you all the time! ;)

Jeez, that's all I need.  A board that would constantly and subliminally say "Sorry, I can't do that Dave".
