its funny how history repeats itself... but this time around there is so much geometry and science built in... its better than metal.... lighter, snappier, and faster to transition. I don’t know if I will go back so long as its a Thirst.

My next board will have more metal (.4).

Metal never dies... People like @NWboarder just get too old.

Yes, I am old this is true, but wise as well. Sometimes the easiest most popular answer isn’t always the right one young grasshopper. Metal dulls the senses... why let it rob you of that?

Rather than dulling the senses I prefer to think of metal as noise cancelling for snowboards allowing me to focus on the next turn and the sweet sounds of Apocalyptica raging in my ear.

But master... What is this "popular" you speak of?

If it's too loud we're too old.

I'm enjoying this conversation...wish I could join it.

Please join.  I am sure there are quite few of us would want to tried Thirst Snowboard.
It's always nice to hear from the builder's perspective/thoughts process first hand.
Congratulation as your products got rave reviews at N.I.C.E.
Would be nice to demo your creation at ATC/ECES in the near future.
The FX 172 waist size of 22cm seems to be the perfect all mountain carver.

Maybe I am not crazy after all :-)

Wonder how well your "secret sauce" work in the North East (narrow, hardpack condition).

Really, Al? A piece of foam under the board for the photo?

Haha, I love it.

Much like Bryan the sound of board tails in the gravel, edge to edge scrapes, and lift line dings is just like nails on the chalk board, just with added depreciation ?

i think it's not alu, it's all other kessler' innovations since 2004 and trickled into other vendor boards then  - other than metal - which count most for ride & edgehold. if you can test board like donek freecarve ca 2001, but made with metal (compensated for longitudinal stiffness due to metal) - imho it will be no fun at all, and new geometry board - done like it is in 2016 but without alu - is a thiiing

when I get a new donek it'll be a "promad" like Matt ordered a few years ago; all the proteus pop in a nomad all mt shape, no metal needed though.

If I make it back to NICE next year I'll let you try my Proteus RT (Round Tail).  Basic Proteus shape with a more forgiving nose and tail.  It rides well with poles.

the one time I forget to put my poles in the board bag... at NICE...with donek demos (thanks Sean)

I can ride w/out poles BUT standing when we stop on steeps, releasing my stepins, pushing off, timing in the bumps and my favorite, confusing softbooters and skiers, made me go in the rental shop and borrow a pair

next day same 170 proteus7227003038_4cba9a4ca1_o.jpg

sorry for the thread drift, now back to your regularly scheduled board porn

the 1st new board I've bought in years kicked ass in a foot plus of actual blower pow today(rare around here)
