  1. So...this is kind of a weird question, but since Turner is a 501(c)3, is the cost of MCC tax deductible?
  2. I'd just like to remind folks that if you link hip dragging turns all the way down the hill, on perfect groom, in bluebird conditions, but you don't post about it in the rub-in thread, you're not having as much fun as you could be.
  3. ETF, good to see you; are you going to be at Schweitzer the full season?
  4. Trigger pulled on Lumber Liquidators flooring. The sample I got said "Country of origin: United States", which I assume means "made in the US". That makes me feel a little better about the likelihood of toxic off-gassing. Keenan, thanks for the Costco tip! I would have checked it out, but I didn't see your post until just now. Given the size of the room, it won't make much difference though.
  5. Ha! Pretty much, basically Atlantis here as far as humidity levels
  6. I'm looking to replace some old carpet in a small bedroom (approx 120 sq ft) with flooring, open to bamboo, engineered hardwood, or LVP. Given that Lumber Liquidators shipped a bunch of flooring with toxic levels of formaldehyde 4-5 years ago, what are your thoughts on sourcing flooring from them now?
  7. Jeeze, can we please keep Whitefish and Schweitzer secret? C'mon NYT, we don't write articles on ASB about secret NYC organic kale shops, or whatever other destination you guys would prefer not to see overrun.
  8. Disappointing that people are looking at this as an exercise in finding loopholes. JFC people, if the US could have distanced and masked as well as Japan, we'd be looking at under 10k deaths in the US right now. As it is, we've surpassed the number of dead in Vietnam, and I imagine we'll surpass the 320k US deaths in WW1 in the next few months. Just sad that we're so unwilling to do the minimum.
  9. Pshaw, milk? Here in Portland, you'll know it's an emergency when the store is out of oat milk and kale. This happens every time it snows more than 1/4"
  10. Yeah, I spent an afternoon on a Thias Easy Jungle (the leopard print board) years ago and it was pretty easy to pick up. I believe that particular model is on the softer / friendlier side, which probably helped. It made me knees feel funny though, and not in a good way.
  11. I read that last summer! It's great, I 100% agree that he's an amazing prose stylist. The characters and their dialogue are incredibly charming.
  12. I'd like to preface this by saying that I know almost nothing about snowboard manufacturing, but I am a low-key hobbyist woodworker. I'm curious about how the cores are stored; I would have assumed that you need airflow to all six sides to keep the moisture content consistent in the whole blank, like you would for lumber that's being stored. Does that not apply to cores?
  13. As a type O, I must admit I was happy to see this when it was first reported by Chinese researchers awhile back. Those results were preliminary, interesting to see there is another (albeit non peer reviewed) study showing the same results.
  14. I hope you're wrong, but I fear you might be right. Also, I'm starting to wonder about RAMROD being held in 2021.
  15. Some fun retro pics here: https://www.vintageskiworld.com/ski-photos-s/22.htm

    It'll buff out....

That sucks! Hats off for your great attitude about it, you're right that everyone walking away unhurt is the most important thing. Hope your next ride is a worthy successor to your FJ!
  17. Ladia, I'm really sorry to hear that your recovery has not been straightforward. Getting run down is a fear for all of us, and I'm sorry that it happened to you. I hope that long term you make a good recovery and that one day you can get back on the snow again.
  18. Question for TVR: We're running at 4x the number of American deaths in Vietnam, and have a shot at surpassing the number of American deaths in WW2 (about halfway there right now). Our national response to both those crises was, I think we could agree, very robust. Would you say those efforts were warranted? What's the difference between then and now? Also, are you aware of the heart disease linked to covid - even mild and asymptomatic cases? Does that impact your view of the virus' severity? https://www.nytimes.com/2020/08/17/opinion/covid-19-heart-disease.html - key section quoted below: An intriguing new study from Germany offers a glimpse into how SARS-CoV-2 affects the heart. Researchers studied 100 individuals, with a median age of just 49, who had recovered from Covid-19. Most were asymptomatic or had mild symptoms. An average of two months after they received the diagnosis, the researchers performed M.R.I. scans of their hearts and made some alarming discoveries: Nearly 80 percent had persistent abnormalities and 60 percent had evidence of myocarditis. The degree of myocarditis was not explained by the severity of the initial illness. Though the study has some flaws, and the generalizability and significance of its findings not fully known, it makes clear that in young patients who had seemingly overcome SARS-CoV-2 it’s fairly common for the heart to be affected. We may be seeing only the beginning of the damage.
  19. I'm sorry to say that I'm not so sure that online civilized conversation between people of different political views exists anywhere in this day and age.
  20. Ask the same question about opioid deaths and let us know the responses, I'd be pretty interested to hear how the results compare. Looks like we're running about 65k opioid deaths per year; that's been going on for much longer though, so maybe we could expect about 2 opioid deaths for each covid death. If you get up to 10 opioid deaths and no covid deaths, then you're getting into statistically interesting territory.
  21. John, I said on another thread that I wasn't going to get into politics, so I'll keep this to math, using figures for the US because I mainly know them off the top of my head. With 200k deaths in the US and population of 330m, that's one death per 1,650 people. For convenience, I'm just going to say an average household is about 3 people (actual number seems to be between 2.5 and 3), so that means about 1 in 550 US households suffered a covid death. I don't know exactly what off-season traffic looks like here, but if I had to guess, there's maybe 50 people actively posting these days, and that might be generous in this sub-forum. Net net, it's very likely that no one here has had an immediate family member die of Covid. This does not prove that Covid is made up or the death statistics are being inflated. In fact, the US has recorded 260k more deaths since March than expected based on past years, so if anything, we're probably undercounting Covid deaths. Edited to add: The demographics, density, and medical care of Laguna Beach are definitely not representative of the US as a whole, your MD probably hasn't had any patients die of opioid overdoses either. Super interested to hear about Oei Tjong Ham, you need to get yourself to one of those reunions (once we can travel again), it sounds like quite a party.
  22. Yeah, while our interactions here are marked with an unusual degree of civility, I do feel that opening up the politics can of worms has the potential to change that. Believe me, I'm more than forthcoming about my political opinions everywhere else, maybe this is the one venue that can do without adding those discussions. I'll just say that humanity does not seem to be excelling right now and leave it at that.
  23. Can confirm Portland was miserable for over a week. My house is 100+ years old, so on the leaky side - I sealed everything I could with masking tape, put a drop cloth over the fireplace, etc., then used a box fan+furnace filter air purifier. Once that was done it was OK inside, but we spent a week only going outside for dog walks and only when wearing a respirator (bought for DIY projects, came in very handy). We've had some smoke in town before, but never anything this bad; I hope this is not becoming a regular occurrence.
