22/23 Board Porn

For a dedicated softboot carver, I had Donek press a 170 Sabre. It's 30.5 cm at the waist (size 12), 10-13m radius, and extra stiff for my weight (I was worried about additional torsional leverage from the wide width, and, I'm a big dude who puts lots of pressure on a board on rail). It feels adequately stiff hand flexing. The workmanship is beautiful. The radius is shorter than my usual go-to. This is my second Donek; I was quite pleased with my first (a deeply tapered and unsinkable 187 big-nosed split, years ago). As with any new board, I'm interested to feel how she rails. And, I look forward to finally having a softboot carver that I can tip all the way over heelside absent bootout.

So many photos of new boards on this thread appear to have a much wider nose than tail. Is this so or just a perspective because of the angle. If so, how much wider is the nose than tail?

The green Donek is 35/30.5/34.

Camera location is key. Adjust up and down so the nose and tail widths appear roughly the same size in the preview before taking the picture.

Man, that looks really nice Al. Can't wait to see it in person. I'm pretty sure that's the first topsheet Mark designed (with my input) for my TSm². Then I saw the wood topsheets he was making...

How's SnowRiver? Have you been on the snow yet?

You are correct, this was an "In Stock" board.

We are at Black River Basin (BJ) last weekend, Thursday was great, warmed up though and froze solid. Friday's morning groom was nice but ice was up within the hour. I'm sure it got soft in the PM, and it never froze so Saturday was an epic Spring Day! With temps in the 20's following, we passed on Sunday.

They've been making snow and got 10" fresh yesterday, which they will groom in for tomorrow, should be tight!

Hoping to ride the Blade on my first day which I hope is November 30th at Crystal. My report won’t mean a whole lot but I will post it anyway!

Second day will be on my Nobile N8 158.

2’ of fresh at Crystal yesterday, poor grooming, i.e. very bumpy & lumpy underneath so very little opportunity to test the new Blade for carving but I can tell it’s is a turny little guy it it may take quads stronger than mine get good rides out of it. Time will tell.
My next day (probably next Monday) will be on the Nobile N8 158.

How thick is the Quasi-isotropic carbon? We talking sheet here or reinforced stringers etc? Sounds like it'll be a dream though. Cheers!

Triaxial sheets.  272 g/m2.  The fibers run 0, 60, -60 degrees.  Apparently this is the material the military uses in applications where they need to replace metal.  I suspect this is what's in Donek "secret" construction.

looks like a serious, yet playful skinny build. 8 turns on the headwall with this thing. Njoy!

Thanks, yes it's my new short freecarver for early season, crowds, narrow trails, ice.

What?  No!   Seriously??   Tell me more Mr. Wizard!!

This is a bit of an X project, we'll see how it works out.  Usually Q-Iso carbon is used instead of metal, but this has both.  4 sheets of Q-Iso, 2 sheets of Titanal.  We'll see if I can even ride it!  It also has extra torsional reinforcement between the feet.  Twisting the board with my hands and feet, it's very stiff.  In my opinion, or for my riding at least, I think the most important aspect of a plate is limiting my twisting of the board with my feet, and preventing the board from kinking in the middle.  This construction should do that.  I'm not sure the "suspension" properties of a plate are all that significant.

Hey! I had to leave so Rob did the fine surface, structure, edge, dremel sidewalls and drill.
That thing was a pain to cut the sidewalls, that and an SL board that came through were next to impossible to completely decamber.
