  1. I am thinking about running inward cant on rear foot to make me get forward more . My front leg is getting tired more than the rear. I am running outward cant on the rear boot with both bindings flat. I am very bow legged. I noticed that all of the Pureboarding riders run the 7 degree cant on the rear foot .
  2. Check out pureboarding. They make an all purpose board for all mountain riding in hard boots. The boards are wider and shorter . Bomber sells them. I own a Pureboarding Bastard and it is a fun board.
  3. If you are going to ATC this year why not demo swoard there first before buying? I would e mail Bomber to see if they are bringing swoards to event? Then if you like you could buy from them.
  4. I don't think there is anything step in that would work with a ski boot? Is the Burton Carrier mostly plastic? If it is I would be wary of using it with ski boots as you might be able to break it due to the fact that you will be putting more leverage on the binding because an un modified ski boot will be much stiffer than a hardshell snowboarding boot. Bindings today that are step in require intec heels that won't fit on a ski boot. When I used ski boots years ago I used Catek and Bomber bindings that were standard bail.
  5. the advantage of pozidriv is the screws are less likely to have the heads wear out? Also check the screws for tightness every few days of riding when you are using the plate. That is the advantage of the Kessler plate- It has way fewer screws than Vist and is also width adjustable if needed. Make sure you take the plate off and check screw tightness on the 2 blocks that it attaches to.
  6. When removing or installing your Kessler plate make sure you use a pozidriv screwdriver and not a phillips because the mounting screws are pozidriv. Pozidriv screws have diagonal slashes on the screw head. If you use a phillips you will damage the screw heads.
  7. The pureboarding guys in Japan are riding on slpoes like this with hardboots and a Pureboarding board that has a metal layer on the base to prevent melting . The slope is wet . They are laying out turns in pureboarding style. I don't recall where I found this video? I think they had joerg build them a board for this type of slope? The metal layer looked like aluminum to me and was right next to the edge and went in a ways on the base. I would think you would need this and a wet surface to prevent board damage and sticking?
  8. Interesting to read on their website that they were breaking all of the softboot gear and that it was in adequate for riding. Interesting to read that they are made in Colorado and designed by an egineer. I remember talking to Fin a few years ago about splitboarding and how the gear is expensive. 850.00 for these bindings if you buy the whole set up. I would imagine that they flex as you would not want a stiff binding running 30 degrees or less angle. I wonder if this will create more interest in our part of the sport if riders use this? They might want to buy what we ride as a second set up to ride at a resort?
  9. I would agree that a metal board is not needed for all mountain riding with hardboots. I ride boards that are not metal construction for all mountain. Boards that I ride are Burton ALP 164, PUREBOARDING bastard 162 , i also have a Wild duck 161 swap and a F2 breezer 158 that I ride. These are all fun boards that are very versatile that will ride all mountain. I do not ride trees as I am afraid of making a mistake and hitting one? I can ride bumps steeps and off trail with these boards and spring slush as well. If it is a deep powder day I have a powder board for that. I would not want to ride these in deep powder but they work well for a few inches of new snow.I like a shorter board for all mountain as it is less effort to manuever on steep terrain and moguls. I used to ride a Donek 172 ax but I sold it because I like a shorter board. The Donek AX is a fine all mountain board as is the Prior 4wd. All of these boards will work for all mountain riding. If you riding inColorado on your west trips you could arrange a demo for an AX with Bomber or Donek? Another way to demo boards would be to attend SES. The Pureboarding crew usually is at SES and you could demo one of their boards a s well?
  10. Lots of good answers here. if you are going to do anything as a hobby it is going to take time to do research to start and then money and time to give it a try. I don't know how you can get more people to try hardboot snowboarding? I have been doing it for a long time and it seems that people will ask you about your gear but are not interested in wanting to give it a try. I don't know how you would change that? I think Olshitsky has been given enough info and he will have to decide what he wants to do? I don't think that the people that ride alpine are their own worst enemy for growing the sport. The internet is a good tool to help people as we did not have it back in the late 1980's when I started hardbooting. Every hobby that I do has lots of details that you have to learn to get the gear to work and have fun with it. A person has to be motivated on their own to do this.
  11. Sounds like Prunes has given you a lot of good info about this. I do not know anything about Switzerland but I have ridden with Joerg Eli who is from there and he rides at SES and that is how I met him. You might contact him through the Pureboarding site as he rides all over Europe and all over the world. You might go to a Pureboarding clinic as well? Sounds like you are going to have fun in Switzerland!
  12. How about a Booster strap? That would allow more range of tightening with out going too far? if that does not work you might go to a boot fitter to have them adjust something to fix this? Maybe a bootfitter could remold the liner with padding around the area of your leg that is too tight to thin out that area to make it fit right? Kind of like a toe cap to give more toe room instead on your leg instead of the toe? the liner can also be compressed to adjust as well. a good boot fitter could decide what needs to be done.
  13. You might e mail Sean at Donek snowboards as he has built lots of boards without metal construction both boadercross and alpine and race. Maybe he knows of a board building forum you could post on? There is a company in Wisconsin that will sell you a pre cut board for you to to finish building. Maybe you could get design help from them and or Sean?
  14. You can buy brand new Ibex bails from the Bomber store. these bails will fit Burton Race plates
  15. I think it is better to ride not in walk mode and adjust the flex of the boots with the springs and using a softer or stiffer tounge. If you are lightweight and the boots feel too stiff with the black tounges you might try the red ones? i find that on the Virus UPZ boot that I ride I like a gray toungue on the front foot and black on the rear foot. I would guess that you can still get toungues that will your rc10? If you need even more foward movement from the springs you can get springs that have more travel that the UPZ springs. I have seen them on you tube as there is a video showing how to install them. i don't know where you get the longer springs? You will be putting a lot of extra stress on the metal tab that holds the cuff in the shell. The springs allow movement but also help support the cuff and keep it from moving too far. A friend of mine who races said that some riders have broken the UPZ boot by cranking the springs all the way down which makes it stiffer but now you are putting too much leverage on the cuff which will break the metal tab. The way to fix that would be to use the super stiff dark grey toungue instead of adjusting the springs all the way closed.
  16. You can buy toe and heel bails for your bindings off this site from the Bomber store. I ride a couple of older pairs of Burton race plate on my all mountain boards only. I ride phiokia bindings on my 2 metal race boards as the bindings are all metal construction and have 6 mm bails instead of 5 mm bails. I am also riding a plate on the race boards and want a stronger binding for that. The new Ibex bails are heat treated to flex better and be stronger. it is recomended to replace the Ibex bails after 50 days of riding to be safe. I weigh 185 and have not broken the burton bindings. Since you are lighter than me you will be putting less strain on the bindings. I also have a pair of bindings on each board for 2 reasons- I don't like having to take bindings on and off all the time and the bindings will last longer because I am putting less wear and tear on each binding. if you want to keep riding your burtons inspect them regularly to see how they are wearing. I do this with all of my bindings.
  17. Did you try contacting Billy Bordy as he used to coach as well as Phil? I don't remember Phil's last name? Billy Bordy used to have the Hardbooter.com shop.
  18. Do you have heat moldable liners for your hardboots? This should solve the discomfort factor with them. You would need to go to a shop that can do this and bootfitting of course. this asumes that you have the right shell size and the shape of the shell will work for your feet.Denver sports Lab could do this. you might check with them? Also do you have insoles that are correct?
  19. I can't understand why they destroyed the molds for the boots? You could sell the rights of manufacture and the molds to some one else if you wanted to. Burton sold the rights to the race plate and they are still produced as IBEX. The Brunswick snurfer is available again. I would think that Norhwave would be selling boots today if they would have kept making them? Thank you for the info that you found as I did not know about these boots when they were being made. They must have been sold in Europe only and only to high level racers? Isn't northwave still going as I have a pair of Bicycle shoes from them. Norhtwave Airflow, nice shoes.
  20. If i was going to spend the money on foam injection I would have whoever is going to do the work inspect the boots you have now and give an honest opinion about what might happen? I would tell them how many days you have on them. I have not done foam injection because I have talked to shops that don't do it and they say that it can be less comfortable and if you have a fit problem it is harder or impossible to correct? I have also been told that foam injection makes your boots feel stiffer. the other question you might ask is can I put these foam injected liners in a new pair of boots after they have been made for the ones you have? I assume you would buy a pair of Deluxe boots again similar to the Suzaka? with a heat moldable liner you could use it in a new pair of boots . I would imagine that shell mods that would be needed in new boots would be eaiser since you know what needs to be done based on what was done on the old boots. the fitter could examine your old boots to copy the mods on the shell on the new ones. I would also like to know if foam injection lasts way longer than a heat moldable liner? Maybe you could post up this info if you can talk to someone who does this work? I too am riding Suzaka and will have to replace them at some point. i am assuming with track 700 as they are similar to suzaka?
  21. I would agree that Burton and other companies made a lot of alpine snowboard gear years ago as I have ridden lots of it. Free demos at Copper mountain by Burton and rosignol had free demos at vail years ago. Also Burton had shops that were designated as carving centers with gear available and there were more shops selling alpine gear in Colorado than there are now. Nitro. Kemper, Sims, Hooger booger, Avalanche, Hot, All made alpine snowboards. You could buy and demo this gear in Colorado.Hot had an extensive line of hardboot boards for all around use . You just could not get people to ride in hardboots and plate bindings. I think hardboot snowboarding is like Jazz music in that not many people have an interest in getting involved with it. Less than 1% of the US population likes to listen to Jazz Music. There are other companies as well that made alpine snowboards too that I have mot mentioned. I have been riding hardboots since about 1988 or 1989 so I have seen a lot of things happen. You could even have a custom race board built at Cruise and Bruise in idaho Springs.
  22. I just ordered bails not too long ago that are Ibex from this site .Both toe and heel. Are you sure that Bomber is not going to sell them anymore because if that is true I would like to know as i would like to order more for a pair of Burton bindings that I have.
  23. A lot of people are having to use heat moldable liners to make the upz boot work. I am another one that had to do this. I am comfortable with a intuition liner in this boot. The flo liner kills my feet. Why doesn't UPZ simply supply a heat moldable liner with their boots like Deluxe does? the other thing to consider with UPZ is the heel lift and the difference in forward lean. this changes your stance while riding. I think I like Deluxe boots better after going back and forth between both boots. I haven't fully made up my mind yet? Also the deluxe boot does not come with a spring system but you can add bTS which cost more for the boots. I don't like the rear boot in postion 3 as it is too upright and 2 is too forward so I will go back to using BTS which allows more range of motion. I am going to try red BTS on both boots and see how that works and if I don't like that I will go back to red BTS on the rear only. I also had to buy a pair of gray toungues for the UPZ as the front foot is too soft with the black for me. I found it was too stiff to run the gray toungue on the rear foot so I run black on the rear and gray on the front. Quite a bit of difference between the 2 boots both in flex and forward lean . Good to have 2 boots that are not the same but I had to spend a lot of money to try this as you cannot demo boots and sometimes you have to ride them a lot to really tell if you like them or not?
  24. The right knee is not hurting anymore and I am riding with flat bindings and outward cant on the rear foot as I mentioned earlier that I am quite bowlegged.I have gone down to 45 in the front and about 33 in the rear for angles as I have small feet and the Pureboarding board is wide for me with 26 mondo boots. I am getting outward cant with the boot and that seems to be enough. I can't believe this has been more than a year since I started doing this already? A year since I took the Pureboarding clinic. 19" stance 5'10" 30" inseam for those that want to know. I am carving a little bit better than last year and having fun. I have been riding for many years and have always enjoyed riding all mountain and not just carving. i am not interested in riding race boards anymore as I like the variety that you can have riding all mountain boards. I also ride older boards- Hot spot Burton Alp and some others. i don't know if I like rotating when carving but there are many ways to carve. I like the shorter boards again as I did many years ago as I used to ride a Mistral 159 asym all mountain. i mostly ride boards from 158 to 164 now and don't see the need to go longer. i
