  1. I did the test for bow legged by standing with my ankles together with bare feet and my knees do not touch. I can put 2 fingers in the gap betwween my knees. I did not bother to check for this until this year. I have to force my legs together to get them to touch. I do not have a video camera at this time. Beckman You are correct for me to think about what I am not doing. I should try outward cant on the rear foot as this is one thing that some bowlegged people have done. or try adjusting outward cant on the boot as the article I read said that not much is needed. I had to use saxophone as a comparison because I play it well and know what to do to make it work as I am a band instrument repairman and a player. I am able to make the correct inputs on a saxophone to get good results. I have to have a certain reed and mouthpiece set up to get the best sound but I know what that is. I do have better skills on a saxophone than I do on a snowboard. I do see people trying to play a saxophone in bad shape and it does not work. My job is to get the horn working so that they can play it well. Some people simply cannot play that well even with good gear. My snowboards do not have dull edges. I will continue to work on this and see what I can do?
  2. I also did move my front foot to a higher angle as I was riding at 45 degrees on the front as I have small feet and figured I could balance better and have more leverage with less angle? Maybe I should go back down to 45 in the front and then 30 in the rear? I did use 6 degrees cant with no lift and did widen out my stance. i also tried 3 degrees cant as well. Is the Burton cant wedge way different than what I am using? I can't imagine that it would be the magic pill for me Ha! Since I am bow legged would canting be a problem? The article I read about this was written by bruce Varsava and he was talking about not using cant at higher angles but no discussion on using it at lower angles? I did not see anyone at SES that was riding a Pureboarding board not using cant in the rear foot. all of the Pureboarding instructors were riding the Burton set up. I could go to 9 degrees of cant by putting 3 wedges on the rear of my Phiokia binding as each wedge is 3 degrees. 9degrees of cant seems like a lot? The problem with me is that I can stand on carpet and almost any stance is comfortable just standing there. I also ride a carveboard during the summer to keep things going. i was hoping the carveboard would help me ride my snowboard better . The carve board is the closest thing to a snowboard turn I think.
  3. I may be trying to rotate too much as well which could be making my knee hurt? The other thing I cannot do is grab the edge of the board during the heelside turn. I also cannot get the board to grip well on harder snow. I don't expect to learn all of the techniques realy fast but I will keep practicing. i did take the clinic at SES last Sunday. I have never been able to obtain good edge grip on harder snow regardless of the type of turn I am doing or board used or setup of the board. I think I am not getting the board high enough off the snow to make it grip better? I have been riding for many years and have taken advice from better riders and watched videos and still can't seem to make much improvement. I guess I am like the lady that sings in the church choir that can't sing well no matter how much practice is put in. I can't sing well either and I did lots of vocalizing drills in High school with a good teacher. I can play saxophone pretty well though. Some of us can get this and some cannot? I do not expect sympathy from anyone on this forum. Ha! I did have a great time at SES and was glad I went .
  4. Is anyone who is riding Pureboarding style having a problem with their knee hurting on the rear leg? I have one more thing to try to solve this which will be a softer rear boot. I am riding my Deluxe Susaka in walk mode in the rear. I also went to a flat rear binding because I am bow legged. I am riding both bindings flat after trying a 6 degree cant in the rear and a 3 degree cant in the rear. If I can't get comfortable enough I will have to abandon the pureboarding stance and go back to 50 and 45 instead of 50 and 35 or so.my knee is not wrecked but I am concerned about not doing it any good as I feel that it should not hurt much at all. I am going to try a Lemans boot in the rear with walk mode or very soft bTS next? I guess I will not be riding a Pureboarding board either if I have to go back to 50 and 45? We will have to see?
  5. Sale pending on both pairs of sidewinders. I will be contacting the buyers by phone tonight.
  6. One thing I need to mention. I will not have acsess to a computer once I get to SES as I do not have a smart phone but people can call me anytime at ses on my cell to look at gear and or try it. I also will be posting signs at the Demo tent with the gear list and my phone number in case you forget my number or what I have. If it is allowable I will probably leave the gear out by the demo tent? i will have to check on this when I get there.
  7. Arne, Good to hear from you! you may ride the Dupraz to see if you like it! Give me a call at 720-485-2283 or send me your number and I will call you. Again I will be at ses Sunday MondayTuesday wensday. thank you
  8. I will be bringing the following items to SES to try to sell. I will be there Sunday feb 8th until Wens Feb 11 If you are interested in demoing that would be an option before buying assuming that is okay to do at SES? If these items do not sell at SES I will try to post pictues when I get back. I am hoping to sell at SES to avoid having to ship. we will see? I will have the items in my car as I would not think that it would be right to have them laying around at the Demo tent? I can be reached at 720-485-2283 Matt Curtis if you are interested? . the only time I would be unavailable for a short while will be on Sunday at 1:00 p.m as I will be attending the Pureboarding clinic. I will be arriving at Snowmass on Sunday morning before the lifts are running. these prices are negotiable as I would really like to sell this stuff and not have to take it back home! 9. Is Bruce going to be at SES next week? If so you could have him look at your board and tell you if it has lost too much camber? if it is a metal board they do not have as much camber as some glass boards. How many days do you have on it? The board may be sinking down on the carpet which gives a false reading of the camber?
  10. I am pretty happy with my current binding set up which is flat on the front and 3 degrees inward cant on the rear. this is on a Phiokia binding and I also use this setting when I ride my Nidecker free carve bindings on an all mountain board or a Dupraz D1. I also have a pair of Burton raceplates and would like to cant them the same way as well? I have tried flat on both feet and 3 and 3 and 3 and 6 and 6 in the front and 3 in the back. This was with the sidewinders with traditional cant and lift.I also have tried flat and the 3 degrees with the phiokia and Nidecker bindings. I don't know if I want to ride the sidewinders any more as they feel very stiff to me now. I might try them with yellow toe and blue heel to see if I like that? I may be bringing the sidewinders to SES to sell?Thank youCorey and Beckman for the answers . I did set up a sidewinder with negative cant in the rear. Don't know if I want to try this or not? I don't feel uncomfortable with what I am doing now.
  11. I read an article on the yzzcanuck site about being either straight legged or bow legged or knock need and after doing the test I realized I am bow legged. The article suggested riding with outward cant on the rear leg. I have not tried this before but might give it a go. For those of you that are doing this did you feel that it makes a big difference or not? the test has you stand straight up with your ankles touching and if your knees do not touch you are bow legged.i have to force my legs together quite a bit to get my knees to touch. i have never bothered to check this. I will try this with my sidewinders as they allow you to set them up with some outward cant. The article sugested 1 to 2 degrees of negative cant. IHow would you know the degrees of outward cant on a sidewinder? The article was written by Bruce Varsava.
  12. I assume if I want to get parts for Ibex binding I will have to order from Carvers paradise as Bomber is not carrying the binding and the parts inventory is not in stock on some items and I would guess that Bomber will be phasing this out both bindings and parts as you cannot buy the ibex binding from them anymore?
  13. I feel that the UPZ boot does not work well if you are riding low angles- below 50 degrees. i rode my all mountain board with angles of about 45 and 30 and the UPZ boot is too stiff in the lateral direction with those angles. that is a Pureboarding stance. that might be why the Pureboarding riders ride Deluxe boots? I have the virus UPZ boot with the stiffer black cuff. I will keep my UPZ boots if I decide to continue to ride my race boards as they work with angles of 50 and 45. You really notice the difference with those low angles as the boots feel like you are too locked down and are too stiff. nice to have a boot that works diffrently than Deluxe if that is what you want? the upz boots are supposed to be stiffer in the lateral direction.
  14. this year is 37 for me. I have been riding since 1978. I started on a yellow Brunswick snurfer. I have ridden many different boards over the years and many different boot and binding combos. Currently riding the Pureboarding stance and am working on rotating into my turns. I am going to attend a pureboarding clinic this year and might buy a Pureboarding board? I rode a similar board years ago at Snowmass a Mistral 159 asym which I rode everywhere. That board is hanging up at Bomber. Hope to be riding for many more years!
  15. Thank you for posting Tom! I rode with you at Loveland quite a few years ago when there was a demo there on a very cold January or Febuary day and I did try a two maybe you had brought it? This year I am trying the Pureboarding stance with less angle in the rear foot and am liking it. I am planing on going to SES and demoing a pureboarding board and attending the Pureboarding clinic. Did you like the Bastard better than the two? I also have been working on rotating into my turns and ridiing with a softer rear boot this year. Maybe I will see you at SES or maybe I can go to Monarch and ride with you again soon? Keep up the good work with the videos!
  16. go ahead and watch that video as it is very helpful. the link to the article may have been lost because maybe it was in the old Bomber website?
  17. Maybe it is a new mold? Alpine snowboarding has to be growing in Japan? Fin has magazines from Japan that are thick and full color and have lots of ads for boards boots and bindings and articles on riding. Too bad I cannot read Japanese. I rode a pair of Alpina boots many years ago but these look like a different boot. Good to see someone making boots as we need more companies doing this to keep the sport going.
  18. Keep riding. The more you do this the better you will get.Ride on easy slopes and work on making left and right turns and keeping the board under control. watch some alpine snowboard videos on you tube to observe how people are riding. there is one called lessons in alpine snowboard carving done by snowy tom. On that video he does lots of diffrent turns the ankle carves are a good one to learn as it gets you moving the board around making small turns when you are going slow. I still watch that video from time to time to remind myself how to do things as I am still working on gettting better after many years of riding.
  19. You are not fostering hatred. I agree with you lets discuss the various styles and gear and learn together. it is all good skwal -raceboards soft boot carving whatever.
  20. I guess the best way to get better at the Pureboarding technique will be for me to go to SES and go to the clinic and then continue to work at it afterwords. i have started to work on rotating into the turns and also trying to grab the board top edge on heelside as that is one of the drills Joerg has you do for practicing. I still can't grab the edge yet but I will continue to practice this. this thread is moving along well despite the negative comments-more positive than negative. Lets keep it going !
  21. I have been using the following bindings-Burton, which is same as Ibex,Phiokia with 5 mm bails you can also get 6mm bails for phiokia .i also ride Nidecker free carve which has 5 mm bails. They all ride about the same and work well. the advantage of the phiokia and the nidecker is they come with shims for cant where the Burton did not and people have been having trouble with the Burton cant disc. i have been riding with cant only in the rear foot about 3 degrees but I am going to try flat on both feet again.the disadvantage of the Nidecker is that they are no longer being made but Phiokia and Ibex are still in production. I also have the bomber side winder but they are 2.5 pounds heavier and too stiff with the blue pads. I might try them with yelow pads in the toe and blue in the heel on each binding to see if that will work? Fin sugested I try that because I am too heavy for all yellow. i think the Bomber is going to be too stiff anyway? Last time I tried them on my metal raceboard they felt really stiff like stepins. If I continue to ride my 185 metal race board I have been using phiokia with 6 mm bails as I want the extra strenght for safety reasons. I am not riding a pureboarding stance on the raceboard. The Phiokia binding with 6mm bails rides with more flex than the sidewinder. I used to ride td3 stepins and felt they were too stiff for all mountain riding and I was not riding a puerboarding stance with them. Before that I rode td1 stepins which are crazy stiff. I think the f2 and snowpro binding would work for Pureboarding as well? Also the Kessler binding which is similar to f2. Maybe the Virus binding would work as well but they are very expensive.
  22. So Snowmatic you are saying that the Pureboarding boards are poor quality? The earlier models according to the Carvers Almanac were made by Kessler. the ad on this website says that the boards are being made by euopean craftsman who know how to build high quality carving boards. Can't say that you are wrong as I would not know. I looked at a Kessler boarder cross board and have wondered how it would work with hardboots for all mountain riding.on mostly packed snow conditions. If there is a lot of powder I would be riding my Dupraz d1. Would the it be hard on the Kessler board to ride it in moguls because of the metal construction or not? I only ride in moguls that are easy to ride not close tight big ones.
  23. I was just using that amount for sake of discussion. Don't know what amount the buyer wants to pay? Just trying to help him find a board. I am not trying to cause a problem here.
  24. did you try looking on europe e bay? All Board sports in Boulder CO is a Virus dealer and did have one for sale used. #303-415-1600 You are not going to buy one used cheap as they are expensive. I doubt you could buy one used for 200.00 if thats what you are looking for? You are going to have to spend money to get one.
