SunSurfer
Seen, not heard. A thumbs up and a big smile from a Korean alpine boarder race training at Turoa in August. He had no English, I had no Korean, but we were brothers on the snow. SunSurfer

Keenan
Riding up the chair with a new instructor today. I'm on my Donek Incline: "Do you have a regular snowboard?" "This is my regular snowboard" "Do you have a twin tip board?" "No" "Do you have a soft boot set up?" "No" "Weird." "Yes."
Sultan Guy
Typical. "How old is that board?" I did not have the heart to tell him it was brand new and first day on snow.
*Ace*
First day on snow this season and my local mountain opened up today. Flagged down by the liftie at the top of the mountain tonight and he says: "You're in great late season form. :biggthump"
powdahbonz
"How long you been riding on monoskis"? Me: It's a snowboard "No it's not" Me: Yup...an alpine snowboard for carving "It looks like a monoski" Me: Maybe...but monoskis like skis, you stand parallel "What do you know about skiing if you snowboard?" Me:....well, I ski as well ............very quiet lift ride after that

Me:....well, I ski as well ............very quiet lift ride after that Yes, I believe we all had those conversations here and there. Today, I barely got the the lift and was ready to snap my first leg in when the first question has arrived: "What it this"? Me: It's an alpine board. "Wow, this is sick! Never seen a board so skinny like that!" Well, I guess it must be your lucky day... :) Btw: For me it was the first day out this season. It's like a reality check.....I thought I'm ready and fit for the season. I was sooooo wrong. :P

Tabatha
Hanging with a soft-booter who had never seen a carving board on Saturday. She wasn't sure what it was about, half way down our first run our group caught up with each other and she said "oh, I get it now - it is like a skateboard!" garybergmann
Not the lift line, but sharing a lift with three skiers (S1, S2, and S3): S1: I think I'd rather have to fight a bear than a cougar. S2: Yeah, a cougar can rip you up like a wolverine. S3: But what kind of bear, you mean like a grizzly or what? S1: Probably more like a black bear. S3: What about a polar bear. S1: Not a polar bear. They are dangerous. I just sat there enjoying the moment. Ok, not snowboard and/or carving related, but I couldn't keep it to myself... Corey
"An alpine board? Cool!" - I was stunned. "That board's really skinny." - Cute lifty gal. 15 seconds later, I thought: "Yeah, but it's really long!" Too late... ;) High-fives from two lifties after a good run where they can see the entire run. No words, but my smile couldn't have been bigger. :D

NSSage
Skier in line: (talking to his son) Hey son look at that! thats called an alpine snowboard! Me: You are the first person today who actually knew what it is! Skier: Yeah, we always need at least one of you guys up here so everyone can see how snowboarding should be. Neil Gendzwill
My best one to date -- a couple weeks ago in Whistler. "Hey, aren't you a little too old to snowboard?" C5 Golfer
And your response should be "aren't you a little young to be so closed-minded?" could be a good response but the he was not young as in teenage. it was a family of three from good ole California - mom, dad and a 10-12 yr old daughter. Dad is the one who asked the "too old question", I told him I did not start boarding till I was 50. He then said -- "well, crap - maybe I should try it!:-)", I replied " yep, you might like it"
Puddy Tat
More of the usual today. I was riding a 171cm Donek Incline, TD3 SIs and UPZ ATBs. From a liftie..."Do you race?" Then later in the day from some 11 or 12 year old snowboarder pretty much at the top of his lungs while I was stepping into my bindings. "OMG ITS A SKI BOARD... YOU GOTTA SEE THIS... EVERYBODY". I took off before the Beiber fans could tear me to pieces. Oh and somebody else did ask me if I made the TD3s myself. Dave
tufty
I was walking back to the car with the skwal over my shoulder, young kid points at me and says to his dad "that's like one of those funny snowboards, isn't it?". Dad says "no, it's a mon.... actually, I don't know what it is". As I'm taking my boots off, the kid comes over and asks "what /is/ it?". Cue quick explanation of what a skwal is, why it's different to a snowboard, alpine board and monoski. He asks if I snowboard. "Yes, but only alpine", say I. "I've seen that, it looks loads more fun than snowboarding. I'd like to try", says he. Astute kid. Spoke to his dad, hooked him up with my mate who still has a few alpine rigs for hire in his shop, including some kiddie-sized ones. One more for the pack, maybe.
