    Interesting tid bit , one of the surgeon involved in his care is an ex alpine racer, perhaps they can adjust his knees and get rid of all his need for cants and lifts :-p

  3. In the same vein, kudos to whoever was ripping up and showing off at Calabogie last week. One of my skier friend saw you (first time seeing live hardboots after I kept saying how good it felt), he is now interested in picking up the sport.

  7. I noticed Sigi Grabner uses his yellow .0950 for racing and his grey softer .900 for casual riding/teaching (see video section teaching the Japanese kids). Not sure what his spring settings are for those.

  9. The topic was brought up here & on the Swoard forum (where the is an extensive use of the Northwave springs) However I wonder how do I know I have the correct flex? Or is it so individual there is no metrics to quantify the 'right' amount? Background: I'm 145lbs, on Northwaves with ultra soft springs, flex is almost a stiff soft boots. This week I found an old pair of yellow (very stiff) springs, the flex became ski boots like for my weight. First day was 2 days post freezing rain and I was very steady making pencil line on yellow springs but did not feel surfy at all. Yesterday was 10cm chopped up crowded and I was bouncing all over the place and could not react very fast to the bumps/chop, switched to the very soft springs and it was like riding soft boots (but tend to wobble on hard) I tend to ride surfy rather than racing style, is there a way to know when it's too soft or too rigid? What so you look at? How woobly your feet feel mid carve? Wobbly lines in the snow? Can't bend zee knees? So... Do people change springs on the fly according to conditions even within the same day?
  10. So cool to see all these hardbooters getting on the Knapton bandwagon sideway slides on wide board (and the carving is so much better than the usual softboots we normally see).
  11. Some skwalers advocate a very slightly duck stance. Purists are calling for as close to 0/0 as possible.

  13. I don't see the flex as an issue (unless they made the tongue very stiff). As Philw mentioned the flex is controlled by the spring and you can customize the springs to what ever flex you want. Our Can$ is rather poor currently, it's equivalent to our neighbors to the south spending $1300 of a pair of boots (add 13% tax on top).

  16. Looking for soft (ideally with spring system , or at least can be put on later) 27.5 for my son who is starting into hardboots, and is also stealing my VSR but that's another story. Ideally you're located in Canada to save on all the shipping hassles.
  17. It's relatively safe, and for the amount going on the edges, I can't see that as any worse than the stuff you use in waxing the bottom of your board. Krown is designed to slow down or inhibit corrosion on vehicles. It is a petroleum based product with rust inhibitors containing no solvents.   19. Hence the worry and initial query. The product does not damage car's plastic bits or clear coat.

It does not happen all the time (just like cars, mainly when resting temp is above freezing) I've seen rust develop within hours (while at the resort, changing ski to snowboard/vice versa, gear sits in the rooftop box in the sun, but temp is cold enough for condensation and rusting, or at home in 5C to 10C garage coming from -15C or below from outside). The Krown rust products works extremely well to prevent rust and is extremely fast to put on (5 x 5 pairs of skis, 4 boards). Main concerns is whether the petroleum in it would degrade the wax or base (only applied to the metal but some leak over to the base).
  22. I've seen edges rust in the car & roof top box in a very short time when the temp is around or just above the freezing mark. Even with wiping the edges clean, there must be water condensing from the colder riding to the relatively warmer car & box (garage). I've waxed the edges right after each rides but takes a while, esp when you're a family of 5 with multiple skis and boards per person. Lately I have used Krown rust spray (spray on a paper towel), and rub it on the edges. Very fast to do. Krown rust is a company that spray your car with their proprietary oil to prevent rust , which is extremely effective from personal experience. My only concern is whether that product can damage the base? What do others do?
