  1. Looks like they are going to beat out A-Basin and Keystone, Palmer lift opens this weekend: Timberline to open Palmer October 7th for advanced skiers & riders Timberline is pleased to announce it will be opening Palmer Snowfield on weekends for skiing and snowboarding starting Oct. 7 and 8 (weather permitting). The Palmer Chairlift will operate from 8am to 3pm on Saturdays and Sundays. Lift tickets are $61 each and will be available at Guest Services in Timberline’s Wy’East Day Lodge. 2017/2018 Timberline Season Pass holders may use their new pass! There will be some snow grooming on Palmer for a better experience; however, conditions can change rapidly. Early season snow conditions are extremely variable with the possibility of ice in the mornings and thaw in the afternoon. Skiers and riders are urged to use extreme caution. The Palmer Snowfield is recommended for advanced skiers and riders only.
  2. The last time I did a moon and carve I chaffed my bottom. Best of luck to you.
  3. I try to spend as much time in walk in coolers as possible. I just pay for what I drink on my way out.
  4. Dan, I can't make it this weekend or next. I'm planning on this Friday but you should go, they are calling for 3-5" Saturday.
  5. They extended it a week, spring pass is good through June 4th
  6. Yep, I wen't up Friday and they hit the 200" mark Thursday night. 18" in the last 72 hours. They are open every day and have extended the spring pass ($119) for an extra week until June 4th. Not bragging, just letting people know that the turns can still be found.
  7. Mark, Dan and I dominated the old man on hard boots division. I actually have scuff marks on my helmet from knocking the bar down.
  8. Don't worry about it, those chairs were too slow anyway.
  9. There will be at least two of us skiboarders there tomorrow. Conditions are looking good. I hope they can find a run steep enough to carry speed.
  10. Day Four - Timberline. Hardpack/softpack depending on the run. Okay this board rocks. I was able to pump through flat sections like a skateboard. Except this skateboard left 4" trenches.
  11. Turning and Burning at Timberline, Mt. Hood, Saturday April 15th. Anybody interested? http://www.timberlinelodge.com/event/nitro-presents-turning-burning/
  12. I rode one of these at NICE. The last day, bad visibility, legs tired. I couldn't describe it that day but there was something unusual and magical about the way this board felt under my boots. I had never really noticed how a board sounds before. These weren't the best testing conditions for me but I talked to Mark (the builder) for a while about what I wanted in a board, then I put down a deposit. USPS lost it for a week but it finally arrived the day before my family spring break trip. I have yet to ride it in anything more than mediocre conditions, so I will update this review when I can. First Day: Hoodoo Ski Bowl, 8-10" of wet new snow. Not the best choice for the conditions but it never sank or got stuck due to the tail and nose shape I assume. I found one semi groomed run where I could crank out 8-10 linked carves. Super responsive and light under foot without giving up stability. To get to that run there was a long cat track which flattened out at the end. 90 percent of the boarders got stuck and all of the skiers were skating and poling. I probably did this section 10-12 times and passed everyone every time. It felt like when others were losing momentum I was still gaining. Second Day: Mt. Bachelor, firm snow turning a bit grabby later in the day. I was with my 8 year old daughter on 120 cm skis, so I could really only get a few good turns at a time. I was able to adjust the turn size quite easily, and the board seemed to power through chop just as well as any metal board I've ridden. A couple of times I though I was catching an edge and going over, I just hopped the board onto the other edge and it kept going. Very maneuverable and fun. Third Day: Mt. Hood Meadows, ice with chunks and ruts, flat light. Three runs and done, not the boards' fault. When I got to the bottom where I would normally stop, I realized that I was going faster than usual and had to throw on the brakes. We have rain forecast for the rest of the week, so hopefully I can get a good day in next week and update this. The closest thing that I have ridden to this is the Oxess XXR which is over twice the cost and made overseas. I can't wait to get on this thing again, I'm so thirsty.
  13. You are not the only alpine rider to be there this season. We just all look the same to the untrained eye.
  14. Before I had kids, I would go up the night before and camp at the Sunrise lot. It's a lot warmer there than camping at Timberline. Now, I don't go on weekends until after spring break. Hopefully USPS will locate my new board and I'll get to try it out Wednesday or Thursday, and it won't be quite as bulletproof.
  15. When you have that thing strapped to the rack doesn't the car lift off the ground at 50 mph. too?
  16. Last Friday at Meadows they were having the high school state snowboard championships and one of the kids in line behind me announced that I was the "dopest" snowboarder he had ever seen. Please refer to me as "The Dopest" next time you greet me, I'm running with this title.
  17. If I make it back to NICE next year I'll let you try my Proteus RT (Round Tail). Basic Proteus shape with a more forgiving nose and tail. It rides well with poles.
  18. I found the cable sometimes frays where it rubs on the opening in the plastic footbed. If you cut a 1-2" section of a plastic drinking straw and slide it over the cable before you put the handle back on, this acts as a protective sleeve, preventing further fraying.
  19. Hey, that was fun! I ended up with an extra ticket good until 2-3-18. $40 dollars with free shipping. I'm also quite thirsty for my new board. Thanks for the hospitality. Schweetzer is awesome.
  20. The only time I've been to your magical land was about 10 years ago on the last week of operations. We left early the second day because it turned to glue at 55 degrees. I'm bringing a pow board, can't wait for some local guiding.
  21. I guess the website needs updating. It might be worth an email anyway, Gavin might know someone.
  22. Try contacting Gavin at Snowperformance http://www.snowperformance.com/index.php/who-we-are. Sean Cassidy coaches for them and is a great coach. They are based in the Seattle area. As for the equipment, I believe that Bomber ships demo gear. Or, like Dan said, send him to Schweitzer if he's game, it's an easy drive from there.
  23. Actually, there is an airport in Redmond, a 20 minute drive from Bend. If you flew into Denver or Salt Lake there are direct flights. You could actually land in Redmond and be at the mountain in less than an hour. They also have a new lift accessing about 650 more acres this season.
