That's awesome lonbordin! The problem for me would be picking which JWST pic to use.

Yeah man... the latest shots JWST of the Phantom Galaxy would have been another contender for sure!

I’m pretty sure I have the full version of that pic as my phone’s background image! 26cm waist, what a beast!

Big feet... big socks... I've been riding a 165/26cm BXFR for most of this season and loving it... It doesn't feel big at all to me.  But I've been real gentle with it... The Donek I rode a lot was 179/24 (Secret).  This board is a culmination of those riding experiences.

Yeah, my new 163/28.3cm softy Contra is such a beast. Only four days on it so far and I’m still working out my softboot heelside positioning to avoid chatter, but damn does it just grip and rip. I was at Lake Louse last week and had three random guys just come up and ask to try it out after I’d finished a run, hahaha. So happy with it! Bruce is truly doing the lord’s work.

Have fun tomorrow!!

So I never expected to be adding anything to this thread this year, but ... I joined the Klub.

New to me: Stock K168 care of @Shred Gruumer.  Board may as well be new - doesn't look like its even been ridden!  Even came with some packing swag!!

Nice! winter is making a come back for the North East.  Enjoy it and can't wait to hear your review.

Well, it was about time.

The board on the left served me well, it's surely more than 20 years old, it has carved on A LOT of slopes along the Italian Alpine Arc. The board on the right finally replaced it.

What a difference!

Just for specs, the Xlevel was 4 cm longer but had 10 cm less effective edge length. The Rabanser is also 2.5 cm wider at the waist. Radius is more or less similar, I don't know the old one but I once estimated it was around 11m whereas the R is about 12.

The new baby holds an edge in just a different universe. But the old classic was a pleasure to ride around in bad conditions and very crowded days.

So it is said that a bad workman blames their tools, not me baby! I made that Kessler 168 look awesome today.  🙂

Seriously it is all that everyone raves about.  There are members here way more qualified than I am to review the board, but from my perspective it was it felt really good from the very first turn.
I set the bindings up centered on the holes, about 62:57. The board likes to be worked and I found I had more confidence on its first run than both my other regular rides: Angrry 162 and Contra 172+2 (this may have had something to do with the excellent conditions today :), a real first this season). My biggest problem is still finishing the turn back up the mountain but found it relatively easy on the 168.  The harder I worked it, the more it liked it and I was able to turn as tightly as I wanted on narrow trails.

It did not like to be ridden like a contra, just leaning into a turn, and I found myself suddenly riding on my elbows when I did try.

Looking forward to learning to ride it properly.

@Jack M you were right! It’s a keeper.

That is awesome!   Don't give up on your Contra.  I had similar experience.   Not clicking with the Contra.
K168 allow me to trust the board and build up confidence so that positive feedback loop finally let me and the Contra shape to get better acquainted.  Now the dilemma is which deck do i take out.

For me this whole sport is so totally condition dependent, i.e. the right slope, the right surface, the right temperature, the right board and setup, the right light and visibility, the right amount of beer and frame of mind can make me a hero (in my own mind) or a jackass if anything is a little off. I had Hans Jurich send me a custom K168, for $1700 total, and I couldn’t ride it hardly at all. I gave it to Bruce who said he had never ridden one. My XC made me feel like a new man with the first couple of turns…some of the remaining ones weren’t as good but it’s still my fav!

I would just say some boards just fit you right away and some just don’t. That’s  my experience. To buy board depend what people say it is always a risk. That’s way I Iiked SES. I could try so many boards from different manufacturers. And sometimes just one run told you yes or now. But it is all the past.

One nice thing about ASB (Bomberonline) is that you can still buy a used board here and if you don't like it you can turn around and sell it for the same or a slightly discounted price and you've demoed a board for the price of shipping. Cheaper than a trip to Aspen, maybe not as fun, but you still have the $ for the next "demo".

@1xsculler you should look at the PCjv. I think the PC's are the most "all terrain" of Mark's boards.

Thanks for the tip but I have zero interest in an all terrain board. If I’m going to do all terrain I’ll take my skis. If I’m not on skis, which I very seldom am, groomer carving on an alpine board is my only interest, i.e. I don’t even consider myself to be a snowboarder.

some time we have to embrace the "suck"/struggle.  Like playing video game - when we level up and become overpower the game become too easy and signaling the end might be near.
Trust the wisdom of the crowd (to certain degree and not always).
if everyone saying it's good; likely the problem lies with in me.
When i can't ride a board: it exposed some weakness/lack in my technique/style/setup.
I enjoy (looking back) to conquer the board/trail; akin to tame a wild horse.
it's often a painful experience but i learn something from it each time.

and Sometime - the board is just too stiff/soft for you.

Does that have the "slasher" sidecut Bruce keeps talking about?

2024 model early release! The next in the @Winterstick Squaretail Plus series…

20.5cm waist

14-16m clothoid sidecut

2 layers of Titanal

4 layers of Q-iso carbon fiber

4 layers of rubber

extra torsional reinforcement between the feet

It’s soooo good.

Does that make it thicker than an average board? Just curious...
