The fortunate ones do and they have their own “New Board Porn” thread. As we all begin prepping for the rapidly approaching 2017-2018 winter season, let’s see what you plan to ride this year with some specs and thoughts why these boards and gear are getting the nod to be your daily drivers. Cheers to you, your rides/gear and the people that are behind getting them into your hands and strapped to your feet. ....and thanks to all of those that have worked tirelessly to give us all a place to go and be part of a community. Mountains: Donek Rev 180 - Freecarver with lots of grip, can make small or big turns with a thought. Still need to finish graphic design so Sean can make it! Coiler EC 175 - Mellow cruiser that can EC way better than I can. Was my go-to board, but I think the Rev 180 will bump it down to 2nd place based on my demo ride at ATC. O-Sin 3800 169 - Powder board that I don't cry over when I find rocks lurking under the snow. Little hills: Donek Rev 163 - Super versatile board - my go-to since picking it up. Coiler Angry 160 - Need a workout? Makes ribbon candy down any run. Nice on ice because you don't have to go fast to have fun, so falls hurt less. Donek Proteus 170 - Snappy carver that makes 'big' turns for tiny runs. Freak: Skwal USA 170 - An entirely different sport with similar roots. Surprisingly fun on ice. Turns really tight, can drag hips at will while also making me feel like a total rookie whenever I'm going slow or trying to sideslip. Pats Peak, my local hill, has a vertical drop of less than 800 ft, narrow trails and a lot of people. The MK is great here for its fantastic edge hold on the skied off terrain and the tight turning radius enables me to avoid other people and the sides of the trail, all while making a lot of fun turns. Donek Flux Custom (168L - 28W - 8.5-10SCR) - This is the board I get on when I am going to be hanging out with my and other families for a long day. In and out of the Sled Pub. Relaxing in softies. Carve aggressively on one run, then relax and take to the woods or bumps on the next. Rad Air Tanker (177L - 27.2W - 10.75SCkR) - This one is new to me. I hope to use it on the rare powder day and just general riding. I hear that they are great for busting thru the end of day crud. Donek Custom (172L - 19W - 11SCR built like a MK) I have not ridden this board yet but my reason for having it made was to have a board that rides like a MK for bigger mountains, a longer turning MK. Donek Proteus (180L - 19W - 13SCR) - This is my favorite, hands down. I would rather be on this board than any other by a large margin. The only problem is, with the way I like to ride it, I need long, steep and wide trails with no one else on them. I don't ride this one as much as I would like, but when I do it's just amazing. The plate and mass helps soften the board a bit and add some grip in the afternoon chop. 2007 F2 Silberpfeil 162 (9.5). The most beautiful board I’ve seen and an amazing tight turning hard surface ride. 2012 F2 Silberfeil Vantage 163 (9.5). A wider version of the above. I’m looking for something that can go all over the mountain. Donek Nomad 164 (7-11). The best damn powder board I’ve ever owned, it floats and carves better than my Dynastar 3800. This would be my one board to take on a trip if I could only take one board. 1999 Burton Supermodel 163. Previous rock board and lazy cruiser when boarding with non-enthusiast friends. Steepwater Steep 163 (10.?). Best damn rock board ever made. It’s nearly impossible to core shot it. The down side is it’s incredibly slow, but the thing makes you look like a super hero. Donek Knapton Twin 155 (8.5). Ordering soon! Fell in love with one at ECES five or six years ago and haven't ridden but a handful of days since (teaching in Florida all winter), but this year I'm going to make sure I get on the snow. Coiler 180 Racecarve built for me in 2002 - 19" waist, 12M sidecut, built very stout to handle my weight. Still a great board which on good snow will turn inside anything but a real slalom stick, but beginning to be vulnerable on ice and at very high speeds. PJ 6.3 - the green camo one. From newest to oldest - 2017 Coiler Nirvana Energy, Titanal 0.4mm, P-Tex deck, 174 x 20cm, SCR 12/14m. It was love at the first turn. There's a reason this is the 4th Nirvana in this thread, and there I'm sure there will be lots more. If you haven't ridden one, if you get the chance try one! 2003-4 Hot Blast Slalom (Red) 160cm x 21cm, SCR 8.9m, with my own design & build isolation plate (hinge/hinge & slide). Edge hold and ability to carve a wide range of turn radii is like the Donek MK I rode at ATC 2017. Mid 1990's Riot Supercarve 178cm x 17cm waist. Effective edge 171cm. I think the SCR is about 12m. Bomber UPM mechanicals with a DIY plate core from a trashed F2 Eliminator with 3 layers unidirectional carbon fibre laminate, shaped to cope with the narrow waist. I keep coming back to this board. Blue-180, 23.5 waist, 11.5scr. Black-164, 23.5 waist, 9-10scr. Coiler "REVelation"; (Bruce's version of a race board, but with an almost radial sidecut); 180, 20.5 waist, 13-14scr. Donek "Rev" 175, 20.5 waist, 11-12scr And...3 new sticks picked up the end of last season that I'm looking forward to riding and deciding which SL board to keep: Coiler 165 race SL with 9-10scr and 20.3 waist. Told Bruce I missed my old SG163 and asked if he could make something similar but with a near radial scr. Only ridden a couple of times, and not sure if it is what I was hoping for, so looking forward to seeing if I can get it dialed in. Kessler 162, 19.4 waist. Likely a custom build as the waist is narrower than a stock 162 which may mean it was built for a lighter rider. 2006 Burton "Fish" 160, 25.8 waist with 3cm taper. Found this never ridden board (still in the plastic) last spring. Figure everyone should have a dedicated powder board, just in case. To be ridden with very soft Raichle 323 "hard" boots when the snow is too deep for the "Incline" . Having a variety carving boards (small, medium and large) makes the limited terrain of our small midwestern hills more interesting. Takes 2 minutes to go to the car and switch. If I lived in the big mountains maybe I'd only need a couple of boards...well maybe 3... Also, souped-up my boots last spring by replacing the packed out stock liners with Intuition "Alpine", some booster straps and replaced the stock springs with the DGSS. Just need snow! My local shop only had the "Alpine" or "ZipFit" in my size. The Alpine was on sale (50% off) and seemed to fit my foot and the shells. Sometimes a limited choice (and a good deal) helps make the decision for you. I've seen both the "Alpine" and the "Power wrap" recommended for RC10's by members here, otherwise I don't know much about the difference. By the manufacturer's description it sounds as if the "Power Wrap" might be stiffer. The "Alpine" seemed similar in stiffness to the stock liners, which was fine with me. I've only ridden a few days with the new liners, but I kind if wished that I had gotten them sooner as they have made a huge difference in the power transfer to the board. I had to dial way back on my input (apparently there was a lot of play between the old liners and boots!), as I found I could ride with much more subtle input. I may ride some others but one of the below will be seeing some action most any day I ride: Dupraz D1 178. What a pow slayer. Big gun for big pow!! Is there a board made with more float?? I doubt it :) Mig's Fullbag Diamond blade: Retired a couple of boards from the quiver. This board is to softboot groomer riding what the D1 is to powder. Mig put alot of R&D into this shape and hit the nail on the head. OES 172 FC my one and only titanal carver so can't compare or say much except i like it. Only complaint is that with the 17cm waist it is just too narrow for me to use when ski patrolling. Trying to bring the toboggan down with such a forward stance is a bit beyond me being able to correctly do my duties. I have a 20.5 cm waist Coiler on its way and it will be for patrolling. So these first 3 (all mounted with F2 bindings and the amazing Gecko Plates) won’t get quite as much use as usual. Kessler 180, for GS courses. Kessler 171 for modified GS/NASTAR/Airline NAASF Races Kessler 162 (my fave alpine) for slalom/tighter NASTAR/tighter set Airline NAASF Races Oxess SBX 158, Palmer Power Links, Salomon Carbon Quantum bindings- my boardercross weapon of choice (2 USASA titles on it)...just a joy to ride, on and off the sbx course, feels like I’m cheating! And new this season... Yes Optimistic 154. Its claimed a top 5 spot in my all-time boards. Carved like a race board, floats in pow...one board to rule them all!
