Dan
So...just kicking off this year's thread with a teaser...I rode some Thirst boards last season, and after dithering between two sizes (and test riding both - thanks Mark!), decided on the Warp Superconductor 172. Mark has been waiting for me to get my act together on the topsheet art, and I saw preliminary sketches today from the artist I'm working with, Raffaella Vaz. I am super happy with the way things are coming together and hope to have something to show off in this thread soon!

drschwartz
Here's what I know... Based on Donek Rev dimensions. No titanal though, new technology in the core, hence the name. You'll need to ask Jim about any more build details, cuz I'm on a need to know basis. Rides like a dream, stable at speed, turns on a dime, and releases out of a turn really easy. Rode a demo at USASA nationals and had to have one. Looking forward to riding it this year as my go to free ride board, or perhaps for GS races. Paul Thanks for the compliment. Most of the boards in the background and on the racks are for the high schoolers. Edited September 12, 2017 by drschwartz Typo

Emdee406
YES Optimistic... soft boot carver, with carbon-high back Burton bindings CANNOT WAIT! When I'm not on my Kessler race boards, I'll be carving this little beauty everywhere. I didn't like the original graphics, so bought some protective adhesive covering, with a carbon pattern! With a 'flow' from Go Pro, I plan on making some Japanese-style soft boot carving videos with my new equipment... I'll keep you posted! Tanglefoot
I woke up suddenly, and way too early. After staring at the ceiling for a few minutes, I woke my wife up and explained: "I am a free carving, coffee drinking rocket scientist who rides mainly in Kongsberg. I need more Edge Hold on ice, hard pack and man made snow." My wife, of course, had heard it all before. She just mumbled "Talk to Bruce" and went back to sleep. So I jumped out of bed, downed a couple of swift frappucinos and got to work on my annual "Dear Bruce" letter. Bruce, of course, had heard it all before. He did not hesitate to recommend the "Kongsberg Free Carver 170", which apparently was the blueprint for the Nirvana Energy back in the day. This particular specimen boasts a 20 cm waist, an 11 m VCR, and 0.4 mm Titanal for added Edge Hold on ice, hard pack and man made snow. My wife, of course, was not born yesterday. A few mornings later, she woke me up (suddenly, and way too early), and whispered in my ear: "Mrs. Tanglefoot's board?" So I jumped out of bed, downed a couple of swift frappucinos and got to work on the second "Dear Bruce" letter of the season. Bruce, of course, was not born yesterday. He did not hesitate to recommend the "Steampunk 168", which is based on the "Kongsberg Free Carver 170", but with 0.3 mm Titanal, less whimsical graphics, and a flex pattern tuned to suit the female center of gravity. It later transpired that my wife's actual words had been "Mrs. Tanglefoot's bored", but by then, the "Steampunk 168" was a reality, and the rest, as they say, is history. You don't have to be a rocket scientist to figure it out: Winter is coming. 3

I checked and it looks good (set at +21, -9, in case I have to teach a goofy rider, and need to ride switch). I would probably go steeper and double positive if it's just when I'm free riding, plus I've still got Gecko Stealth pads or Freeride ones to go on it! ?? And as I said, I may use my Geckos too In the pics below, I had no trouble carving on the Burton Con Artist last winter, and that's a lot narrower. I keep suggesting that we change the name to the Kongsberg Karving Klub and use those initials on the t-shirt, but everybody seems to have a problem with that?

SunSurfer
It would be funny, except that the burning crosses and lynchings were real. And in today's America the same attitudes are still widely held. Time to change the subject back to carving.
st_lupo
I was sure that I'd stay out of the porn section this year, having scored a too sweet to believe it deal on a barely used Kessler 162. Then I talked to Tanglefoot and heard he was going to get a new Coiler. Then I heard Mrs. Tanglefoot was gettin a new Coiler. So I started thinking: how would an NFC Energy compare to my NFC Balance, and what magic could Bruce do on this time around now that I could give him some feedback on an established baseline? It was all just theoretical, mind you, and besides, my wife skis, so a custom built Coiler for her wasn't going to win any hearts and minds. So I sent Bruce an email "A Couple Hypothetical Questions", just to waste his time. Unfortunately, he was positive to the ideas, things escalated quickly and now I have to add my new Coiler NFC- Energy. Like Tanglefoot's board, it has .4mm titanal and is optimized for energetic riding and icy narrow slopes. I'll bet Bruce wound up with a record sales year for boards going to Norway. To rocket scientists. The new board is the blue one on the left, next to her 2 year old bigger sister (a .3mm tinanal NFC balance with slightly bigger length and radii).
drschwartz
All these new Nirvanas; might have to consider trading in my old Coiler for a new one next year. Wonder if he can make one with an all black top sheet...

Corey
I'm interested to hear your comparison between the Energy and Balance models. I tried an Energy model a couple of years ago and didn't fall in love with it. The nose felt too soft to me, but Bruce said that I was too fat ("outside the weight range") and rode the nose too much. He said that he shifts the stiffness fore-aft on the varying models, with the Energy having a stiffer tail than nose for extra pop coming out of the turns. Then I tried the pink/purple 0.4mm Nirvana at ATC - it felt good. Grippy, poppy, stable, all the nice adjectives. No idea which variant it was. I only got a couple of runs before I handed it off to someone else. BTW: http://coiler.com has been updated.
