west carven
snowreport: sun jan 28, 2018 howdy all WTF day 4 went with the softboots cause the big reported 4 inches new, but it was very soft groomed down from yesterdays pow and it must have dumped early during the night. should have brought the hardboots, but the softies was fun and I ended up riding by myself and did some good pow runs all over the place. me and johnasmo and crackaddict did a few runs early and somehow lost Cuban and two plank mark and rick. the groomers was soft and not the best, but if it doesn't snow tomorrow should be good. took it easy and had a fun pow day... rode the 152wfs from 9 till 3... west carven
snowreport: mon jan 29, 2018 howdy all WTF day 5 a beautiful mostly sunny day with soft wet snow that was groomed kinda uneven and some new snow on top that made it very challenging. dreadman and bigdogdave shows up and a guy named alex and crackaddict and fred plus us locals and now its looking like a real crew that ruins the groom. was a fun day and wanted to stay all day, but the snow got pushed around into wet piles and it started to set up kinda hard so left a little early. forecast for tomorrow is very high winds with some snow... a beer at the brewery then dinner at mambo's... goodtimes... rode the 165amt from 9 till 2... johnasmo
The 2004 Violator 188 came out today to meet its maker (designed by Shred, made by Bruce). That's it's shadow from years ago in my avatar. Coilerama. These are just the ones we three Montucky boys brought to the hill today. There were more; Aaron, Steve, Greg were on Coilers too. We didn't plan this photo ahead of time. That's seriously just what we brought to the hill today. I rode 3 of the 6 I brought up. west carven
snowreport: tue jan 30, 2018 howdy all WTF day 6 started with some dark clouds and dumping graupel then snow then starts to get nice about 11am. bad grooming from last nights frozen slush cause it got really warm last night. so dust on crust and it was hard to dig in and with the firm hardpack bumps it was a very challenging morning. so did a few runs on the backside then had lunch and was thinking of calling it a day, but after lunch went down big ravine and it was really good, the wind blew off the skied off snow and the cold wind dried the snow and made it very carvable. me, johnasmo, dredman and bigdogdave did a few laps and closed out the day. it was very windy all day with huge clouds flying by and the sun would shine at times. the second half of the day was a surprise and i'm glad we kept going... forecast is not much snow and slightly cooler temps the next couple days then a powder day on Friday... rode the 176vsr from 9 till 4... carlito
Hey Fellow Carvers at WTF! Sorry no follow up posts. Left the bulldog sat night and had a nice drive home to golden. Look at the posts a couple days later and figger: "shit, shoulda stayed for the band!" ha ha Had a great time riding with you folks and Whitefish is a very entertaining hill. And despite the "carving" focus of the group nobody can really complain when it snows somewhere over 8 inches in 48 hours with a little wind. ha ha . Just a little more "All Mountain Hardbooting" focused while the weather is doing it's thing.... Those Picture Chutes are pretty nice, thanks John! After getting back to Golden early Sunday morning I slept for a few hours, rode with the family at the horse, and battened down the hatches for the incoming storm. (ie, switched bindings to a 169 Powder specific shape). Monday offered up this lovely view down "Tunnel Vision", an honest 35 degree 3 board wide line down CPR ridge on the Horse: Snowed all day. Probably got close to 30 cms or something by tuesday morning. No photo ops on tuesday, busy riding...
Allee
"snort" as Neil once said, KH - the only place where a three board wide chute covered in moguls, is classified as a single black ... Enjoy your week, the reports from there are looking epic.

west carven
snowreport: wed jan 31, 2018 howdy all WTF day 7 the big reported an inch overnight so I knew it was going to be better than yesterday, but also knew the hardpack was there and the question was how much the groomers grounded it up. the top of chair 2 was good, but ed's run was very firm and was scraped off into chicken heads. it was much cooler with a cold steady wind and big puffy clouds with some sunshine poking thru. it was firm on the lower forth and not carver friendly, but the top was very good then as the day progressed the mid section got better. trying to keep up with the boys all day then finally the last hour and a half I went on my own pace and slowed it down. there was a lot of runs where I skidded down and watched the boys tear it up in amazement. today was a great carving day and hope it doesn't snow cause tomorrow should be better with the cooler temps. the last few runs were so good and I could have gone longer... my last run was really good... it was a fun day riding with the crew... rode the 165amt from 9 till 4... johnasmo
WTF 2018, Thursday, Feb 1. Best day ever... or not. Fog down to mid mountain most of the day. Smooth groomers underneath, but with a few inches of chopped pow on top. It was a ghost town out there, but Aaron, Ed (Slopetool), and I ripped a few holes in the fog. Highly recommend the ginger teriyaki chicken at the summit house for lunch!
west carven
snowreport: thu feb 01, 2018 howdy all WTF day 8 it was looking good for some good groomers, but it started to dump at 5:30am and it dumped plenty by opening and stopped around 11am, but by then it was huge push piles. the snow was soft enough to cut right thru when on edge. Cuban was one and done, did a few runs with dredman and rick then they were done cause it was foggy with a little bit of rime. I stuck it out and tried to make the most of it. classic big mountain fog, but later no rime and found that it was doable on the lower mountain where there was no fog. later rode with johnasmo, but by then I was pooped out from the power carving thru the deep pow. it was the "best day ever"... johnasmo, thank you for the media coverage... great pics... forecast is softboots... rode the 165amt from 9 till 3...
