  1. don't worry about the sentiments of one or a few that have nothing to do with the actual rules governing the site. the rules are clear, i think. and since anything resembling an auction is verboten, the onus is on the seller to come up with a price that is as close to the mark as possible. if it is too high, it'll shake out. you are correct, btw. a board is worth what any ONE person will pay for it. you can only sell it to ONE person anyway, right? i get so baffled by the lowballer deal seeker who is bested on willingness to pay and perceives it as anything other than a simple outcome of the free market and it's many variables. like your comment about the bike sale, i have bought boards on ebay and been overjoyed with the outcome. most recently a Rad Air Tanker, just last year. perfect condition, $230 shipped and exactly as described. seller's rating taken into account, etc. conversely, i have made deals on this site that i ended up being less pleased with. maybe because i was hasty, did not ask the right questions or because there was a subjective difference in what constitutes "good condition", or whatever. notice that i did not state that i was burned or ripped off.
  2. Is there any variability in the texture, one visit to the next ? Like, occasionally maybe they inject some water to firm it up ? or is it always the same ? looks like sugar. for about the last 20 years I have heard there will be one near the Meadowlands in NJ, just outside of the city. it is still not up and running.
  3. I am always drawn to any gear, in any sport, that transfers my own energy most efficiently. Just that simple.
  4. Compare any given Wednesday to any given Saturday at one of the hills accessible (90 minutes) to the D.C. market. Like two different planets, for all the reasons stated in prior posts. I managed about a 15 year run without a single Weekend day until my kids talked me into it, just a couple of years ago. The arrangement is that I agree to take them if we are in line at the start of lift operations and I get to do three runs with them. They agree to this because they actually like to arrive early and when they are riding with me, none of their friends are there yet anyway. Strangely, I kind of enjoy the whole circus atmosphere. Stressed out parents in the parking lot or the shop always make for a laugh ( yes, i am mean when i should empathize). It's the first world problem type of situation, usually. Pass, Coupon, Googles, boots or jacket left at home, etc. Dan's comment about "destination" resorts is key, I think. The vibe in the lodge mid-week at Arapahoe, Loveland, Wolf Creek (no lodging) as compared to Breck, Vail, Copper is very different. There is something about coming in on equal footing.
  5. This one is a 110/111. basically in perfect condition. same with the bindings. I have some size 2 boots in their original box that are equally nice of that i could dig out, if you are interested. lemme know.
  6. Well done, Soybomb. Way to support the Ams and keep the lights on. Thanks.
  7. I miss this car so much. 1984 GTI put together in a Pennsylvania factory. Nothing compared to much of what gets posted in this thread but it was fun fun fun. Koni gas adjustable , some tie bars, bigger throttle body and some other elementary mods. Euro bumpers that would do nothing to protect the car. 5 Speed with a Golf ball shift knob. Always looking to go around a bend or a corner. Chewed through tires. (not a factory color. blood orange/red Sikkens paint, the moldings were dropped and the resulting holes were filled in where the hardware was.) 2100 lbs, 90 hp (@5500 rpm), 1781 cc. mud flaps. smooth. good times.
  8. I listened to BBC radio last night and heard the bit about the kidney stones and roller coasters. Made me think about the first time I drove a car; I was 14 and heard my Dad making some horrendous sick animal type noises in the middle of the night due to suffering related to kidney stones (at that moment we did not know it was kidney stone related). My Mom was away at a retreat and I took the decision to wrap him up in the blankets he was laying in get him to the car rather than call an ambulance. He was incoherent and it was all so scary. I drove him the few miles to hospital very carefully and the radio report about the roller coasters made me think maybe I should have whipped the car about and sought out every speed bump and pothole.
  9. I LOVE BROMLEY ! Whenever I am there, I have a great time and the vibe is so laid back. I look across at Stratton and never feel like I am missing anything at all. Bromley is where my now 16 year old first put on skis as a 2 year old and also where I spent the first day of a perfect trip with my 10 year old, just last March. It's good enough for Ross Powers. Good enough for me.
  10. Sintered Man sent you a PM. Give me another day to get them out (Wednesday for sure). Could not get to USPS on time today. Thanks
  11. same issue recently, but "chocolate" . real dilemma because i like the cola, root beer and the dr. pepper. in certain light conditions, i can't tell the difference between them.
  12. my high finish quality Alpine Snowboarder trucker hat is made in Bangladesh, where jobs are needed.
  13. i have 2 or 3 pair that need new cables. you can have a set. maybe you can resurrect them with a bike brake line/gear shift cable. no $ needed. i will probably be in your area at some point in the next few weeks because i have to make a trip to some hat factory/outlet near you in Adamstown. we can work it out. or you could paypal me $10 and i will sent them out in a padded envelope. i will check back on this thread tomorrow or the next day - or p.m. me. you cannot have my Hazelwood, though.
  14. no disrespect to frozen yogurt businesses, to be sure. i know of a few in Maryland that are in the right locationlocationlocation and they are printing money. i can think of a few that are poorly placed and probably struggle month to month. a person entering into a business like Bomber would have vastly different considerations than one opening a yogurt shop. my comparison regarding the amount of money it took to get into the business was a comment about the disparity in the level of sophistication, inventory, etc. no comparison at all, is what i meant to point out.
  15. I was kind of thinking the same thing. Between the state of the art CNC and the inventory alone, right ? It costs that much minimum to get into a frozen yogurt franchise, these days.
  16. Yay! you've been missed. anytime there is some "eye catching" fashion that i see on the hill, i think of your avatar. i've never seen you bested, even once.
  17. fascinating teamwork with those things. first thing i did was look to see if they are tethered. no surprise, they aren't. the way they move around the thing, i suppose it would only be an obstruction and upset the balance and flow of things. i watch videos like these and am stunned at the level of skill and cool-headed responses. the whole course is a no fall/no crash zone. i have spent a fair amount of time on a small island in the Baltic (Bornholm, in Denmark) and there is a young Policeman who circumnavigates and criss-crosses the island all night long on a BMW 1200RT. he's federalized politi. he encounters some speeders, the occasional DUI, and the rest of it is just fantastic riding. awesome that he gets paid for that. thankfully, i have only seen him several times and not met him. yet.
  18. plenty of businesses change hands on little or nothing more than a promissory note. often this is preferable to another offer that includes some or even lots of cash, for many reasons and not all of them to do with money. particularly if the buyer is thought to be a known quantity and is perceived as the most knowledgeable, most motivated or whatever. countless variables, really. I am sure Fin made what he felt was the best decision, at the time. it seems impossible to me that any of this was "the plan". i think two people met doing something that they loved, fell in love with each other, and dreamed earnest dreams. later, reality hit hard and the pressures gave way to a first (really) bad decision. then another and another. if the article is accurate, the improprieties were acknowledged, when confronted. Angie may have been relieved, even. they have not "fled". by no means am i defending anyone but none of this takes the appearance of a diabolical scheme or con. i understand that many were wronged, not least Fin. theft of public funds and defrauding financial institutions is grave, yes. but I do not believe that something like this has real malice, at it's center. real malice is the guy who sits in the living room of a Senior Citizen with mild dementia (not in a nursing home yet) and high pressure sells them something that they do not need that takes 2/3 of their life savings. that's who i reserve my anger for. *********while i was typing, Jack posted the article that states; "ex red brick director turns self in at pitkin county jail"********* answering to charges voluntarily is not the normal m.o. of the hardened, career criminal set, believe me.
  19. i have no idea. i saw her name and clicked on it, fast. probably the most interesting thread title ever.
  20. Thanks Sandy. I am excited for next gen Tankers, for sure. Tankers can change your life, really.
