What's your favorite mass produced softboot carving board
lordmetroland replied to JRAZZ's topic in Carving Central
I'm finding the "softboot carving worth watching" is 50% worth watching/50% worth wincing; the cat-butt toesides are really hard on the eyes. It must feel really good, because it looks awfully funny. I cannot figure out the allure. Especially compared to something that's much more aesthetically pleasing and efficient which can, unless I'm mistaken, be accomplished in softies... -
Hilarious. You go all in on something, then you ultimately have to make the choice between looking foolish and an shilling an underperforming product. And, really, who's going to really know the latter? It feels like the big companies have shifted from producing snowboards to producing quasi-technical jargon, cute icons, dramatic prose and action photography. I'm not sure if the NS product descriptions are genius or stupid but that slight bit of confusion is the essence of great marketing.

Is Covid-19 Impacting You, Your Carving or Your Local Mtn.?

I second the “holy shit”-ness of that article. Pink froth should be restricted to strawberry milkshakes. Thanks for posting. -
Is Covid-19 Impacting You, Your Carving or Your Local Mtn.?

I'm finding these posts strangely compelling and distressing at the same time. Like Cormac McCarthy's "The Road" without the cannibalism... -

Bad Article - Best (softboot) Carving Snowboards 2020
lordmetroland replied to barryj's topic in Carving Central
Yes, and not one of those moronic, quasi-wide, but-only-a-smidge-wider-than-our-regular-offering-for-dainty-little-hooves, 26.8 versions...seriously people, there are some Chunky Soup eating mother****ers out here who are tired of overhang! -

God-f***ing-dammit! This is precisely why we should be able to give a post the finger. That stupid weepy-eyed emoji does not convey sufficient rage.

Bought this about five years ago from a fellow member as new old stock. I’ve probably put the equivalent of five, maybe six days on it since. Top and base are both in great shape. Base is structured and pretty fast (photo shows what looks like a serious gouge; it’s a very shallow spot where the structure was flattened). Top sheet has a small gouge that came with it. Cambered, not rockered. I’ve got a few similar boards (including the 2003 version) and this poor thing may never see the snow again unless it's lashed to someone else's feet. Rides great; responsive yet fairly damp. In my opinion, it is the single prettiest board I have ever laid eyes on and, for that reason alone, I’ll be sad to part with it. The care that went into the construction of these boards is truly incredible. But, at the same time, that Maori guy scares the s*** out of me, so maybe someone braver could live with him.

The nose of the board is not the nose of the board...other than that, it’s totally believable.

Ok, you guys are going to think I’m nuts

Ullr frowns upon such talk. You may want to go sacrifice a goat or something... -
I'm pretty sure that's the upholstery from the booths at the defunct (and sorely missed) Nye's Polonaise Room in nordeast Minneapolis...

As principled as I am, I'm also pretty sure I could be persuaded sub-optimize my riding with s*** gear that came packaged with buckets of cash per year spilling out of it. On reflection, I am morally weak. Since we're on the topic of converting people, I can never quite figure out why we don't attract more women to the sport / site. Ah well, it's bound to remain shrouded in mystery...

Softboot Bindings for Carving/Freeriding
lordmetroland replied to svr's topic in Bindings and Subplate System Reviews
Looks sweet but I'll be damned if I can figure out why I'd want less resistance in my highback, even though it's clearly the pimpin'-est part of the Mix... On the other hand, it wouldn't be the first time I rashly bought something because I thought it made me look cool. For the same amount, I could get three sessions with a therapist and possibly start working out my self-image issues. -
Heard it in the lift line - 2019/2020

You forgot something... Pepperidge Fahm Remembaaahhs...wicked awesomely. -
If you're willing to schlep to Christy Sports, you may be better off going to Denver Sports Lab, which is only about 1-2 miles further. They used to - and may still - have some former World Cup techs in the house. I've found them to be professional, meticulous and affordable. I've seen Doneks direct from the factory awaiting tunes there. Not sure how long you'd have to leave it, but I suspect you could ask about a rush order.

Excellent intel. What’s your address, again?

Or you might be a bow-legged goat. Either way is fine.

Me neither but the real problem appears to be all that metal left behind by your orthopedic surgeon. You should probably have that cleaned up before messing about with small stuff like pivot points...

I've had a fight with myself over buying the Hammerhead 181 for a couple years. If it was at least 27cm wide, I'd be fighting with my wife by this time. Neil, I'm happy to sell you a much-loved Glissade Big Gun 185 without rocker or turned up edges or other technical advances that may just be masquerading as marketing hype or even pretty graphics you'd have to fret over in the lift line to help ease your transition from HB to SB...you're welcome.

The better question is why aren’t all the purportedly hardass hockey players not using these?! The Hanson Bros would...

Not new by any stretch of the imagination, but lots of turns left in them. All ratchets and ladders work as intended. Some wear on the straps. Later iterations of the El Hefe came equipped with carbon highbacks, but the stiff ABS versions on these have greater adjustability. And the bindings are white. White, for crying out loud! With this funky, multi-colored, oil slick looking finish on the "Infinity Chassis." Seriously, if these were a car, they'd be Huggy Bear's Lincoln Continental. Come with multiple canting footbeds. Extra Large for you sad, clown-shoed mofos who can't find a stock board wide enough to accommodate those big slabs. Like me.
