I have learned that my lower back issues stemmed from needing to strengthen my glutes, core and lower back. I have had back issues for 3-4 years and my first day out this season it came right back. Yes, I was working out but with the pandemic I lost access to a gym and was not strengthening my core. I now know at the start of every season what I need to do to get myself in riding shape. Add to that spinning and running. Working with a physical therapist that also does deep tissue messages she helped me develop a series of exercises that have improved my core, back and strengthened my glues. Here is my routine that I do 4-5 times a week: 8x 40 sec tabata intervals with 20sec breaks Part 1: 4 reps of push ups 4 reps of various abs/sit-ups Part 2: Same routine for tabata 8x 40sec intervals I randomly tried to find videos of the exercises I do 4x40sec I extend a 5lbs weight in front of me and flex my glutes and lift arms and legs starts a 4:57 Lower back raises 4x40sec I modify this and add 25lbs weights to each leg when doing the raises. Focus should be on only using your glutes to do the raises Lying hip raises There are a few other lower back exercises I sprinkle in but need to watch working out my back to much. Lastly I changed my diet, dropped from 185 to around 177. I am now down to what I normally weigh when I am training for a half marathon.

Hey I have figured out some exercises that have helped my back issues a lot. I may be older but my back is in better shape this season.

Centering UPZ boots - whats wrong with this picture
GeoffV replied to michael.a's topic in Carving Central
Overthinking it. Just get your angles right and stance. Remember the heel ramp is a lot higher on UPZs. You’ll need more lift on the front. -
Welcome Drew. For starters I would recommend reading through all the tech articles.

@Skully let me dig that up in an email from BV Bruce’s thoughts on the K168 ”Very nide but not a board I would ride all day. A bit too harsh and flicky for me. “ He has some new ideas brewing but I would need to get his permission to post them.

I have K168 and have a 174 Contra arriving this week. Out of the fleet of boards I have I spend 80% of my time on the K168, it is just that good for me. @johnasmo thanks for sharing were the balance needs to be on the Contra. This will be a shift in riding style for me. I hope you can teach and old dog new tricks?

it is amazing how much those plates flex. No wonder there is a limited shelf life on them before they snap.

Approaching 3/4 of a century. Had to try a new board
GeoffV replied to patmoore's topic in Carving Central
Love it Pat. Your will be an inspiration to us younger lads that hope we can still carve in our 70’s. Am I complaining of back issues in my late 40’s, uh yes. I hope I can hold on for another 30 years. Pat a Coiler would serve you well, Bruce is all about building boards now that are easy to ride and more forgiving.
