  1. I broke my heel bail many years ago. Pretty much it is metal fatigue any mystery there. The failure starting from the surface defect. You cut the threads in bail and you can expect some defect there. It will slowly starts to propagate, you will see very fine and uniform lamellar surface. When crack reach critical size the rest of the rod just breaks, due to stress. Do forget we are on snow, the water penetrates in to the crack and cause more damage. If you think stainless does not corrode you are mistaken. I had many years on my bail, if you want to be safe just periodically change bails.
  2. I just came from Tahoe. It is getting unbelievable. Gold Coast green slope. Fast recovery Barry, in the end you were pretty lucky and you are strong guy, just image smaller guy on your place. Just take a couple weeks off for healing. I got concussion about 25 years ago and next week any bump was like hit with hammer in head. And slopes were very icy this weekend. Colors? I am not sure about it, I were pink helmet right orange bib with handicap sign, 3 bright colors jacket, but for most people it does not mean anything. I am now so scared of people around me on the slopes. Merging trails , blu and green slopes and bottoms close to lifts are probably most danger places.
  3. Arne, I just hope for fast and decent recovery. Good luck and let us know about progress . I found moral support from this community is very helpful psychologically. Ladia
  4. At first, thanks to Bruce to build me this beauty in such a short time. Contra 162 somehow customized. I used graphic from my older Angry, changed it a little bit and this time I am very happy with correct placement. I can’t wait to try the board over weekend. I had again rather hard last for months, serious health problems and this board gives me new energy, now I am pretty much living in 6 weeks long periods. I just hope. So one more big thanks to Bruce.
  5. I had La Glisse. Great board for powder, I did Aspen Higland bowl on it and it is pretty steep. Why I sold it? After my injury my ability are limited, so hopefully the board will make new owner happy and he can use make some serious use of it. I had so many Virus board and never was disappointed. I still have 3. One brand new I tried it on one run last spring, but it was “big” board for my condition, but my vision has improved after 2 surgeries, so I will give it another shot. If you have money and you ride big mountains go for it. And by the way La Glisse was good even on groomers , some powder boards are not.
  6. I made first day on this board I recently bought. I did not expect too much considering price and description as beginners split. I must say I was pleasantly surprised. There was still some untracked snow. The board was pretty stable no tip vibration. I also had to consider I have not been riding for two years after my injury. Actually today was my two years anniversary to survive it. Also my vision causes me problems. But I was pretty happy off piste. But when I was really pleased , it was on steep groomers. You can carve on this board pretty hard and again no vibration and very stable. Actually I like it more than Jones ultracraft split. I need make comparisons in some really deeper and fresh snow. They had the same board also like regular board. If you want all terrain board and you can get it cheap as I did I would recommend. It was described as board for beginners as I mentioned early, I guess after 30 years on board I am still beginner, but I somehow don’t care. My problem on splits is front binding, I would like to set it up in bigger angle than any binding allows.

  8. I have those and like them. They are currently out of stock like most of the Sparks parts. I just got Sparks puck. Nice but you can’t set up angles over 35 degrees. Just for information. I am using them on back foot and front Voile pucks. Sparks puck coming only with 3 degree inward canting.
  9. The same here. Scarpa Maestrale or Dynafit Radical will work. I was using Dynafit ZZero4 for years till destruction. They were so light. Radicals are much heavier. And it is much easier and safer to walk or climb up in AT boots than classic HB soles boots.
  10. Chamonix Route 162 carbon split. I could not resist. With shipping $400 from House shop. I compared it to Jones ultra craft split I bought several years ago. That board is currently $1500. Chamonix has smaller side cut, bigger camber, board is softer, but has a stiffer nose. Ultracraft nose was too soft for my taste. I will see how it will work. They predict 15 feet at Sierra this week.
  11. I don’t think my best tuning guy Soren is working anymore, I think he went back to Romania. I took board a couple time to Start House at Truckee. They did good job but pretty expensive, but I got spoiled with Soren. Once I left board at Granite Chief and I was not happy.
  12. Do you guys mean that new Zylon? I just saw Revolution made of it. Pretty fancy for sure.
  13. I have been using these white 1 degree boots for years with Drupi’s spring system. I like them so much I bought second pair like spare. Of course I dumped liners they came with and replace it with thermoliners. Due to my rather questionable health second pair is sitting on the shelve. It is 26.5 size if somebody would be interested. I still have never used Scarpa Maestrale and Dynafit Radical, they were also replacements for my favorite boots. Interesting I never like Raichles I had 225 and even softer ones 123? But get rid of them after couple days, but for some reason these 1 degree work perfectly.
  14. Barry I was there at opening. I just need get out of house as I got bad health news on Friday. Let’s hope for more snow. Most likely a couple more boards for sale soon.
  15. I was at Boreal on Saturday. Absolutely horrible, how dare they are to opened hill. Mud and dirt on 2 open runs. I left after 45 minutes because I was waiting 30 minutes to open lift to the top. But I walk about 1/3 slope there was not snow just mud. I bought pass on Friday lucky their senior pass starts at 60 and it is $189. Daily tickets will be $82. There was about 5 skiers rest of were borders mostly really bad, so it was pretty dangerous. I heard Friday was better. They need much more snow and cooler temperatures it was at 50 in the morning.
  16. Nothing special on it, it is fun. It somehow personalized you board. On the other hand it can also make your board difficult to sell. No everybody has the same taste. Angry was only board I did not sell and I did not even bother with fully custom built Virus. Maybe I was hoping I will ride it again, but not sure. Too “big” board for my current condition.
  17. Probably for me to be accurate. 14 months after my injury and a half year after cancer surgery I hit slopes at Soda Spring resort where I took my first snowboard lesson decades ago. I started on the absolutely easiest beginners slope and slowly worked up to the “steepest” slope on the picture. Of course my legs were like noodles and people around scared me. It will not be like before I will just carefully slide the hills but just to be outside on the snow was like small miracle. Ladia my old log in just dos not work
  18. I have ridden various length boards during last 30+ years but my favorite always were boards under 165cm. Probably the best of all was old silver Virus Rocket. One board I should not sell. I replace it with Zylon Hurricane but that Rocket was something special. I bought on the trip to Germany at Chemnitz on sale. Sweet memories.
  19. Almost same question somebody ask last week. I was riding Dynafit and Scarpa AT boots for years. They were much better for me than any UPZ model. And I don’t even talk about weight. So light compare those UPZ leg stones. And of course much better and safer for climbing if you do it.
  20. I used them to years Dynafit ZZero and Scarpa Maestrale. You can ride them lock or unlock. Dynafit were one of the best boots I ever had. So light. They got destroyed and new I got a couple months before injury were pretty much the same shape but not light. It is much easy and safer to climb in these boots. Sad it is history for me. Scarpas were 10 mm longer for the same size than Dynafits. You cannot go wrong with them, of course no step in binding.
  21. I do if the boots have this option. It compensates for “X”or “O” legs. There was boot fitter at San Francisco about 25 years back and he actually measured you legs. Since those days I know, I have about 3 degree bow on my left leg. It helped in old style of liner to release pressure away from ankle. In new thermoliners it is different story. You can also compensate by footbed to certain degree. To set up my boots as comfortable as possible was probably my number one priority. Sometimes I even rode two different boots. It brought usually a lot of questions on the chairlifts. My answer was I am poor and I can afford only one boot for season.

What size you are looking for?
  23. Just normal regular vision. How my priorities changed during one year.
  24. I wanted to try boarding, so I bought at Copeland sport on same ridiculous sale alpine Hooger Booger board with soft boot bindings. Of course I did not have an idea what is alpine board. It was just a cheap board. One afternoon I tried it with Nordica Grand Prix.Of course disaster and I broke that bindings. I got replacement and I needed boots so I went to rental shop. They did not have soft boots to rent but offered me brand new plastic purple lace Kastingers still in the box. So I took them and went for a lesson at Soda Springs resort. On the return they offer to sell boots for a good price and even took renting fee out. After a couple weeks I found out there is something called hard binding. I hated those straps. So I got Fritchi and the rest was the history. And now after thirty years I plan later in winter to take slope at Soda Springs and try to board again. I have top equipment this time but messed up body.
