  1. nice board. standard sl, or a wider variation?
  2. what part of canada are you visiting? the only time i see vintage / neon here is when it's done with hipsteresque irony. perhaps it's different out east.
  3. managed to escape for a morning rip on sunday. conditions were fantastic; (mostly) sunny, w/ wall to wall hero cord. i forgot how good this stuff is. did a few laps of jj then headed to rainbow. brought out the 174 kessler - decided i love this thing now; just needed proper (non crap) conditions to appreciate. my technique is coming together - with help from some of the discussions on this board; i'm wearing out clothing and having huge fun in the meantime. stoked!
  4. night conditions can be pretty nasty here (where temps are relatively mild, and freeze / thaw cycles abound). great daytime snow inevitably freezes up to heinous chopped up bumps of doom. seems that no snow ice days are the best in that the surface is at least relatively flat by evening.
  5. so no issues with running the upz din parts on plate bindings (td3's specifically)? be nice to not have to drag ski boots around. not too concerned w/ optimum skiing performance as i'm only tagging along w/ kids.
  6. sweet! didn't know they were doing full carbon topsheets again. much nicer looking weave than what they used on my wcrm. looks like fun!
  7. this board looks fantastic; love the graphic, too. is that a semi transparent finish? spec look great as well; a bit tighter scr for the length, with modern construction & good pop. sounds super fun. very interested in a review.
  8. this info worked great for me. wider stance, heel & toe lift + outward rear cant = spot on configuration (for me). the non-immediately intuitive rear cant really helped my heelside. thanks for the great content!
  9. i concur. i rode a burner for a day earlier this year in mixed conditions (fresh to hardpack) and found it to be a surprisingly capable all mountain softboot ripper that would fill the above requirements nicely. an off the shelf, readily available stick from a major manufacturer - imagine that? actually sparked an interest in softboot carving. neat.
  10. i like twitter. i don't post on it too much, but for me it's a custom curated news / novelty information feed through the lens of people that interest me / are on similar wavelengths. an interweb filter of sorts that mines the jems out of the background noise. though i use it, i'm decidedly on the fence re: fb - esp in regards to data mining / privacy issues. certainly a handy networking tool.

    Worried...

i've been boarding for many years, but really haven't had the passion for many years; ie, until a couple years ago only did 5-10 days a season. the carving thing totally re-fuelled my stoke; it's new & exciting, and i'm loving it. i find passion for sports cyclical though, and sometimes i need a bit of change to keep things fresh. typically it's just a change of genre, but sometimes a sabbatical is what it takes to recharge the batteries. it's all good; follow what inspires you.
  12. i'd be totally down with a slightly longer / narrower hardboot iteration of this; a mini monster, as it were. looks like too much fun.
  13. ended up being a great couple days. the drive up there sucked; freezing rain up the valley and blizzard on the 97 to kelowna. the storming made for some great pow turns the next am, though. the next morning the clouds parted (a rarity up there, evidently), and i had some great carving runs on pristine cord. there was a refreshing lack of crowds, and the ability to open up on the kessler 174 a bit. amazing what you can do on grippy fresh groom. the prior atv was super fun as well - a bit more playful & poppy, operating best at more casual speeds, but carved better than i expected it to in addition to being great in the soft stuff.
  14. yeah. really, it's more about what you do than what you do it with. easy to become elitist & exclusionary w/ all the esoteric hardboot gear we ride, but being open minded to the variety of hardware on which good carving fun can be had is a good thing.
  15. going up this weekend. totally unfamiliar. best carving runs? pow runs if they get snow as predicted? fun beginner terrain for the kid? need to maximize efficiency; juggling kids. thanks!
  16. i use plates on my palmer titanium (bx board that preceded the crown); works well as a soft snow carving / pow / mixed condition / bump / crap / setup. give it a go & find out if it works for you.
  17. gorgeous day today. packed pow hero groom - the first i've ridden this year. i forgot how good fresh cord was. riding w/ the kid, but he's at a reasonable enough ability now that i tried bringing a board instead of skis. worked well enough; could get in a bit of carving here & there which made me happy. the skis really don't hold any interest. brought the sl kessler - silly fun, even on mellow slopes. love that thing. morning wasn't too bad, but the crowds in the afternoon were insane. every parking lot was full & cars were parked on the road past the xc turnoff. never seen it that busy. people are hungry for snow so it seems.
  18. sounds hot. think my next board will be something like that; mid radius versatile fun stick.
  19. what's the details on that horned beast? looks rad. liking the big blunt monster too. sick collection you have there (not to mention the pile of others you've posted).
  20. any chance of developing an online (pdf) version? i like e-mags. saves space, trees & transportation costs.
  21. ^where's the people? that place is awesomely deserted. our family has a place on pend oreille; i'm down there every summer, really need to try to make a winter trip one day.
  22. kinda o/t, but curious why they used the long pointy noses on those. seems you'd have to use a board 10cms+ longer than normal to get the same effective edge as a conventional nose - ie, that 178 has a running length comparable to an sl stick.
  23. a couple interesting / morbid stats from wiki - there's been 237 fatalities since the race's inception in 1907, and the current lap record has an AVERAGE course speed of 130mph (!). insane.
  24. i rented a burner up at sunshine a couple weeks ago. despite the shorter length (longest they had was a 163), it was a decently capable & fun softboot carver. the 166 would probably be spot on in terms of versatility.
  25. i haven't been up since november, but whistler is looking good currently. all runs open, 84" base (12" new in the last couple days). vancouver mountains are a bit thin, though cypress has had enough to keep me entertained (and it's been open for nearly 2 months now).
