  1. I am not sure if it would be a good idea to have him read your manifesto right off the bat? It is almost like a religious crusade/a calling! Maybe your own YouTube channel? If Bryan is on the east coast, the gear should be damp and good for tighter trails with good edge hold.
  2. It’s funny how new members are bombarded with riders likes or dislikes in an effort to help. The tech articles page Norm, or even Carvers Almanac, should be good advice for newbies. Or a section in the forum where instructors can give some basic instruction. Maybe Beckmann would want to advise?
  3. Welcome! Are you confused yet? They all mean well and they are glad that you are stoked.
  4. plenty of snow in VT! Rode yesterday, surprisingly very firm. Trying to build on keeping speed in check. Moved my stance with more setback and my Coiler Nirvana balance seems to respond to it with better heelside finish. Optimistic that I might get up for another session, but I know the mountain staffing becomes an issue and they will only be open on a few more weekends.
  5. Shred, sorry to hear that your season is coming to an end. I would be more than happy to ride your new stick, and give it the proper breakin ride recommended by the manufacturer. What are friends for!
  6. Love checking out my trenches under the chair. Slopstar might have to start hitting the all-you-can-eat buffet. Trenches need some depth, especially with that buttery soft snow!
  7. Just to add what Neil was saying. Sometimes the terrain will determine the type of carve and how long you hold it. last time I rode, conditions were epic two weeks ago, as I transitioned from edge to edge, just before making the toeside, I would make a small heelside, and vise versa. Nothing too drastic, just made my carves feel better. Knowing the trails, and transitions helps too.
  8. Sorry to hear about this. Where were you riding and what were the snow conditions? I am big too, and always know that I have to keep a bit in reserve because gear is really not designed for big guys and the torques that we put on them. Did you hit some soft snow and auger into it?
  9. Like we preach here with carving, take a lesson. Hatters NC, they have some great schools and shops once you get the bug. Kite Hatteras has a boat that will get you up and going. Windsurfing is much cooler, just saying!
  10. You tell’em Jcar! No internet, or cell phone back then. Show and tell! When those first asymmetrical s where in the shop they just screamed, this is what you ride when there is no powder!
  11. Still riding the older ax, think it is all glass construction. Very good all mountain board.
  12. Kat trips are a blast! Not sure about the one you are asking about.

    Mount Snow

Most of the main mountain has nice blue cruisers. The north face has some steeper and tighter trails, that are carve friendly especially after grooming. Carinthia has the terrain park with tons of jumps and features. Weekend crowds should start to ease now.

    Mount Snow

Just back from two perfect days. Met and rode with Tom and his wife Jodi from Hunter ,NY. He was ripping on a soft boot set up, riding his Donek Flux. Tom from ski shop was also ripping for the last three days as well. Made some minor adjustments to my Coiler 178, and was loving it!
  15. New boards always need a little time to get them figured out. You should have plenty of snowpack there to get it dialed in this year. Sounds like you know what is going on.

    Lift Net Rescue

way to go! Finally some good news to watch!
  17. Indoor slope? That is wild. Legs look good for 8 hrs. Thanks for sharing
  18. I am big, 6’3, 250. My AM board is 172 and my heel side would chatter out at speed and less than perfect snow. Spoke to Bruce at Coiler about a board for my size and type of riding. It has a bunch of numbers in the side wall about side cut, not really sure about that stuff. The board holds with speed and can make tight turns. Point being, my technique and form improved and I enjoy both boards more than before. Find what is limiting your enjoyment with your gear? Yes sometimes there is a time to get on newer or better gear, and it does help, but good form and technique can make old gear work too.
  19. It seems like we all have the same perspective with regard to hardboot carving and the sport that while frustrating at times, gives us a great feeling that keeps us coming back for more. The gear is Very Cool and it looks like it is flying even in the lift line. Maybe we are on the brink of the next big thing? A blending of the styles and gear. I personally would like to see the mountains create more carving terrain with banked trails and tunnels? Even the stuff now in the parks is stale. Remember what the first half pipe looked like? Time to think outside the box.
  20. if you are riding west vs. east, those are things to consider when talking to a builder. They will put you on the right gear for your style and area. I bought a used board, AM that is perfect for quick turns and crowded narrow trails here on the east coast. I wanted to buy a custom board for the same reasons that you spoke about. it usually turns out to be technique not the equipment. I did buy a custom Coiler NFCB 178, and it is a pleasure to ride, but also my technique has also improved to ride it. Good luck
  21. Tugboater, you like livin on the edge! Posting a video here takes balls, but it will help with some recommendations. Your toe side looks respectable and your heel side needs some improvement. I am in the same boat! you really need to be loose on the heel side to be able to scrub some speed and keep clean turn. This past week I moved my stance open some more with slight outward cant on the rear binding and I bring both my arms into the center of the turn to help with upper body. Practice just j-turns on heel side for awhile to feel it. Good luck
  22. It looks like the gear is starting to evolve with respect to carving. Soft set ups that carve really good and riders like Knapton that can show it off in today’s media via U Tube and the like. We have seen this through the years with many sports, instant gratification! Yes that sport is cool, and I would like to try it, but I don’t want to invest the time to learn it? Ski resorts still cater to the park rats and the bigger snowboard companies push that look and style of riding. What are they doing in Asia that gets carving and hard boots the exposure that creates the excitement? I personally watch those carving videos to get me pumped.
  23. Yes, step in platebindings, especially after lunch!
  24. Most boards work in pow. be careful on your alpine board not to submarine. Keep your speed up and check it into the turn or bump to regulate. Set boots to pow mode, Deeluxe and ease your angles just a bit. I ride an all mountain Donek for most east coast pow conditions. Real powder, like they have been getting out west all winter, requires special gear for the deep stuff!
