New board Porn..? 2018/2019

After riding my 1st ECVC from Bruce last year I decided on a little longer, a little wider, a little more SCR. Can't wait to ride her hard over Xmas. Should make for longer, faster laid out carves! Can't say enough about the work Bruce puts into his boards especially when you're a picky bastard like me about colors and graphics. His new software really helps with those hard bright colors and cleaned up the darks. And a special shout out to my buddy Nico Plouffe for creating the awesome graphics for me again. Nic and Bruce work together quite a bit. So you can't beat their combo. Last year's model with the skulls, this year with the flames.

Simply emailing with Kessler directly got it done at what I think was a bit of a quiet time of the season for them.

According to Kessler a stock Alpine 168 weight range is 65 to 95kg. I weigh 68 kg and I wanted to be sure the board would be on the softer side for me.  The stock next size Alpine  (171 = 55 to 80kg) is just about right for my weight but I wanted the 168 length built for my weight. I am undoubtedly splitting hairs but I think I got what I want.

Bruce is basically my guy and if I don’t notice any/much difference between this Kessler and my new Coiler NFCE 170 (and I doubt that I will) I will return to being a full-on Coiler guy.  Bruce’s boards are second to none in all aspects, IMHO.

I thought of having one of you guys just send me your 168 K so I could try it out for a month but knowing that would be met with “NO” or no response the only way was to buy one.  Hansjuerig (sp) made it easy.

You can borrow mine any time... Anyone can, actually.

What's the specs on those bad boys?

Hey Dave,

They all have a waist width close  to 20.5. They each differ by a few mm because he actually made them specifically for my prefered stance width and angles, since a long board and a short board of the same waist width will have different widths where the bindings mount. Mark Miller (Thirst) can be very meticulous!

The 184 has a sidecut in the range of 13-14m. The 175 is about 11-12m. The 162 is around 9-10m. If you've read the reviews of these boards you'll know that they have an asym sidecut, built for either goofy or regular, but not the way you might think, the heelside is slightly forward of the toeside. Also, the heelside scr is not the same as the toeside scr, and are not of a fixed radius. I think the heelside is tighter than the toeside, but I'm not sure. (correction: toeside scr is tighter than heelside) Certainly wouldn't know from riding it, it all flows nicely.  And then there is the asym "WARP" wood core construction that smooths out the flat spots under your plate bindings and somehow is further tuned to work with the sidecut and flex. For me, the proof is in the pudding, even if I don't understand how it's made. An afternoon demo on a Superconductor sold me and ultimately put a dent in my retirement funds.:biggthump

So far, I've only ridden these on fairly challenging carving conditions at Spirit. ie, Man made snow that got rained on, a lot like what we had last spring when you and Cory were here. Can't wait to get out on some better snow.  It will be interesting to ride them back to back with my other boards.

Oh, and close to 2cm taper on each board.

My partner's board arrived today...

ADyfYO7r.jpg

Got waiting for this, a set of Gecko Frees with soft bumpers, Flow NX2 bindings, Burton's stiffest (they're not that stiff) women's boots because I know nothing about softboots, Palau liners and sidas custom footbeds.

Now she just needs to learn how to snowboard...

I'd describe it as an easy board to ride but a hard board to ride well.

Its on the van and on its way i just need to wait 🙂

Well that's reassuring. I liked my SG Soul 164. Just softboots weren't for me.

Photos of new shiny board?

Coiler Revelation, big shout out to @bigwavedave for letting me try his and for the concept of a race-y board with a small spread in sidecuts.  I fell in love just a couple turns in.  Such a fun freeride board!

The beaver was found on the internet, but I replaced the hockey stick with an alpine board.

Nice @Corey! Glad to see Bruce is getting plenty of mileage out of those '89 Safari graphics I had vectorized in 2008 from a photo of my buddy's original.  Regrettably, I had to sell mine in order to fund a '91 PJ7 because my parents thought snowboarding was a fad and made me buy my own boards.  (I know, nice problem to have)  Hence the tribute graphics.
