New Board porn 2014/2015

Not sure the "Quote" function is working....

Yes and no on the interface plate.... I have two custom 180 JJA's with 23 cm waists (not really on purpose, but that's the way it turned out and as anyone who knows me I'm ok with it LOL) the first one (pics of it are on page two of this years new board porn thread) has the full on GS "duck nose" plate. I rode the grey one at Panorama with a set of the Apex Gecko plates.

It was really interesting... I rode with a guy that has the highest level snowboard training you can get in Canada and, up until last year, he was the head of the Panorama ski school (the kid can RIP on an alpine board) I think he was impressed the difference in my riding from last year to this year... Could have been the conditions, could have been me improving technique, could have been partly the board or all of the above maybe.... I was doing tighter turns on steeper pitches with confidence (Wicked feeling as we all know)

If I'm riding alpine the conditions are generally pretty cherry... I'm thinking for me, the full on isolating plates are a bit over kill for my FC application. I rode the black one with the plate one morning at our local hill and it was fantastic no question AND I have a 162 JJA SL board with the SL plate on it and I have ridden that plate where it was a little icier and it did give me a bit more confidence.

I need to spend a bit ore time on the one with the plate and maybe to a bit of a "shootout" between the two on a couple different days with varying conditions.... My opinion could change....

I have a problem in that I have a few nice whips in the quiver and its hard to not go to some of them as well. Tie that in to my severe ADD its can be a problem.

I'd say if conditions are getting a bit chopped up the plate version would likely get the call a bit more but I have the luxury of riding predominantly mid week, so as I say I generally ride pretty sweet conditions.

I'd buy another JJA in a heart beat.

My $0.02

K

just saw your second e-mail.. I also have a jasey jay with interface, the gecko seem to be a real good alternative between no interface and a full isolation... I found the interface leave no place for error and slow down the "feel", but as here the conditions are less then good, the plate provide me confidence, and I really like that...

Two new ones for me:

The Skwal is a new toy to play with.  The Volant is going to be polished to be wall art.  It was hard to resist the urge to take 'just one run' on it - I'd probably fold it up like a taco.

Full range of boards:

29279jq.jpg

Left to right: Skwal 171, Coiler Angry 160, Coiler AM VSR 167, Donek Proteus 180, Coiler EC 175, Coiler NSR 182.

The VSR 167 used to have the Coiler metal checkerplate topsheet but I grew very tired of the look, so I covered it in cheap carbon-fiber-look vinyl from Banggood.com. It's holding so far with a little clear nail polish on corners/edges.

Corey, I saw some video of you and Steve on Oxess, you weren't tempted?

I was tempted...  Those are some sexy boards!  Something has to be pretty darn spectacular and/or different to take a new spot in my fleet.  Price is a factor as well.  The Oxess I rode was a little soft for my ...umm... stature.  ;)

On that note; I suggested to Fin that he should make the yellow Sidewinder elastomers tougher.  He suggested that I eat fewer cheeseburgers.  Touché.  LOL!

Corey, in response to Fin's perjorative comments about your "stature", we will all band together and not attend SES in 2016...;)

Love your quiver - do tell, what influences your choice of taking out the NSR v the EC? And I presume the EC is the same as the Stubby...?

Haha, I debate that one regularly.  If I feel like hauling butt - NSR every time.  If I have lots of energy and want to bend the crap out of a board - NSR.  If I feel like learning more about true EC riding - the EC is the obvious choice.  If I want some old-school pop off the tail in cross-over turns - Proteus.  If the snow is soft - EC every time.  The EC kills it in choppy soft snow, Bruce said that's due to the core shape being based on the Nirvana.

There's quite a bit of overlap between these boards.  I really can't go wrong with any of them.  With subtle changes in my inputs, they'll all do very similar things.

Coiler revelation 180, 13-14scr,  20.5 waist

Raceboard (NSR) construction/flex etc with all the latest raceboard tweaks, but with an (almost) single sidecut radius for old guys like me who want to slow down and take a breath between turns. :eplus2:

A big brother to my Donek safari rev 11-12scr. I might have gotten another rev, but with the current favorable exchange rate (USD/CAD), it was hard to pass up the chance to have Bruce work his magic on this concept. Bruce said it was really fun to ride in the pre-topsheet test, in fact he's making one for himself. :1luvu:  I'll get to ride it this weekend. :biggthump

Neat idea! I do find my EC board (14/16 radius) a more relaxing ride than the NSR (13/21 radius). I attributed that to the flex pattern, but you're probably on to something here.

Fresh from the Top Secret Coiler Lab...

Lets just call it a Montucky Kick-Ass Blaster...

Wood core made from the Howard Huges Spruce Goose Airplane wing spars.

Top sheet has a composite mix from official NBA basketballs for extra bounce.

Base is made from the latested super slippery slidy material from NASA, Slidatonium...

The edges are crafted from the leading edge material on the Apache attack helicopter blades...

The core has been tuned with special blend of cosmic, organic and inorganic materials....that I am not allowed to discuss...

Should be about 174ish, 18ish waist and about a 13-14ish SCR...

Picture intentionally grainy for security issues...

Thanks Bruce!

I hope it has the racing stripe on the bottom!

I was unable to convince Bruce to use the "digger jr" racing stripe... to the untrained eye folks might think it is simply checkered duct tape...If they look closely at the SES videos they can see the racing stripe in action...We both know what it takes to do the worlds longest EC turns......

Still rockin' Ron's racing stripes on the Coiler Slush Buster 175.

Long lasting and waterproof.  A superior aftermarket product.
