Thank you all for an amazing 5 days. The friends and memories will last forever with me.

RJ, Thanks for the Tanker. A lot of the video was filmed on that board :biggthump. Ready to ride this weekend?

To all the organizers, Thank you so much for the great time.

Don, Thank you for the clinic. I cant wait to get my Orange tape out again and practice (yes I saved it).

To the Hawaiian Brothas, man what can I say, too much fun. I will bring my personal stash of Saki next year.

Thank you everyone with the patience while i filmed. I know it does get kind of annoying seeing me pop out and taking pictures, but I think you will all agree that it was worth it.

For all of you that have a bad memory like I do, here is a quick video to remind us all how much fun we had.

I really hope you enjoy it..

Allen

Allen and I finally got home LATE Sunday after a very exhausting 8ish hour drive. 55 MPH in Oregon sucks by the way :sleep:never been so happy to see the "Welcome to California" so I could drive a reasonable 70 MPH...

So oh wow oh wow...where to start?! OES was just downright amazing....

First off I want to say thanks to a bunch of people:

MikeT, Bonnie, Buell, and Rebecca for setting up and organizing this amazing event! Everything ran so smoothly and always had that chill vibe with friends.

Thanks to RJ from www.Exoticboards.com ! He brought quite a few 07/08 Tankers and broke them out of plastic wrap for "lending out" to "friends" ;) :biggthump We also had the pleasure of seeing and riding some of the latest SG metal boards. Quite a few of us left with new Tankers and SG boards in our quiver!

Extra special thanks to Don for his clinic on Sunday! I learned so much from that and I will never look at an orange ribbon in quite the same way...and I promise by next year I'll learn which is my front knee and right and left hands :smashfrea

Bryan - I'm so sorry I didn't get the honor of meeting you in person. I have been reading and enjoying your posts for months and was looking forward to shaking your hand. Your presence was here though in our minds and I wish you a speedy recovery and look forward to sharing some turns with you next year! Thanks again for the dinner at Chan's, it was truly a special night for all of us.

Diablo Composites (Abel and Eric) - thanks for the opptunity to ride the new Diablo Composites prototype BX board! What a board! 188 with a full carbon fiber topsheet, kelver and hand-picked stringers. This thing just plowed through it all. 50 degrees and skied off packed powder conditions? No problem, set the edge and let her go. The 188 rode alot smaller when needed after you got it up to the right speed, edge trans were amazingly fast for a wider board. Perfect match of enough dampness to smooth out the rough snow patches without making the board feel dead and losing all the important feedback of what is going on under your feet. We'll definitanly be hooking up and i'm very excited to see your first production run. By the time OES 09 comes around I'm sure everybody will know Diablo Composities (just remember me! and save me a spot in the board build queue! :))

Allen, Dennis, Etsu, Rebecca, and RandyS - thanks for taking pics and posting them! I totally bailed out of my usual camera crazy role and glad you guys were around to capture those great OES moments and memories!

The NorCal crew - Randy T, Russell, Hagen, JimF, Hugh, RJ, RandyS! Man it was great meeting you guys after reading your posts here and on TC. It was awesome riding with you guys and I can't wait to hook up with you guys in Tahoe and carve some turns!

Mahalo Ron and JimF - you guys just always made me smile every time I saw you. It was great sharing some turns with you guys!

Steve - We killed Downunder and Ed's Garden that day - thanks so much again for taking the time out to give me some very helpful advice. I'll always remember your helpful tips...you are a great teacher and it was a true pleasure to get to ride with you and Sean!

Tim - you rock man! It was great riding with you and I really enjoyed hanging out with you! You are a super nice guy and anybody would be lucky to get the chance to call you a friend.

Don and Etsu - thanks guys :) Don it was an honor to get to ride with you everyday. You are awesome and we'll definitely have to hook up again. Etsuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu :p you always brought a huge smile to my face every time I saw you and you are an amazing carver!

Kenny - thanks again for everything! It was great riding with you!

Chris - it was awesome railing some nice pow turns with you and sharing our last riding afternoon together. Hope you have a safe flight back and glad you come out!

Greg - enjoy that tanker :) It was great riding and sharing a table with you!

Brett - thanks for the beer and the good times! I'm sorry you had to work this weekend, you were missed on the hill but it was great to see you at Mike's house party before I had to leave.

RandyT/Russell - awesome hanging out with you guys! I'll come up and ride some nice double/single-track with you and Russell this summer for sure! And Russell enjoy that AMT buddy :) I can't wait to rip some turns with you and Randy

Trikerdad - Bill, what can I say...you are amazing, you don't leave trenches, you leave caves on the hill... :eplus2: You were the first OES carver I had the honor of riding a chair up with and I loved riding with you. Your helpful advice and tips were always appreciated and I cant wait to share some more turns with you next year!

Buell and Rebecca - wow guys...I really just don't know how to express my thoughts to you guys. Thanks just isn't a big enough word, in fact no words are. From the first emails we exchanged till the last hug goodbye at 4pm Sunday I was grateful for every minute I got to spend with you guys. There is no way I'm waiting till next OES to ride with you guys again so watch out for a grey subaru showing up in the parking lot for first chair :)

MikeT - Mike what can I say? You are awesome! Thanks so much for setting up this great event, showing up for first chair every morning, making sure nobody ever had to carve alone, opening up your house to 40+ people, taking the time out for a great tuning clinic, and for keeping that vibe we talked about for 4 days going! I loved riding with you, talking Coiler with you, and just flat out hanging out with you. I really can't wait to see you again and I want to be your first student :)

Bonnie - You are an amazing woman! Thanks for putting up with my hugging addiction, riding with you, and welcoming us all into your beautiful home! You rail on that phoenix!! :D

Quentin - G-UNIT! I'll never forget ghost riding the whip on twenty-twos in the bachelor parking lot while we are chillin with some grilled cheese 'N juice

I'll have a bunch more to post later!

That is an awesome thank you list.I was going to write a report based on my experiences at OES, but it would have sounded just like that. My list would include someone not on your list ,and that's you. Thanks for being such a great learner, and an enthusiastic and productive student. If all students were like you, we instructors would have the easiest jobs in the world.(already the best jobs, imho)

p.s.To other OESers; To anyone who did not solicit my riding advice and got it anyway;my apologies.I do that to my friends and relatives too:)

A quick shout out to the Lone drivers that made this event go from 40 to 50 carvers.

Ladia from the SF Bay area (seems to be at every event and always ripping), Dan from Portland (nice Madd board and very fine lines), Tim C. from Portland (Carving Coach Timinor) Kevin from Portland (carving, tailgating and dinner at Chans), Chris from Pennsylvania via a Seattle business trip (excellent timing and past ECES stories), Trikerdad + wife (camping out at Bachelor and riding hard), C5 golfer (bring your clubs next year and talk to Brett F.), Greg + wife (always kidding and telling stories), Brett O'Sin Coiler Fanning (carving weekdays, working weekends and buying up carving boards) Tim S. (OES 1st car in the lot specialist, friend to everyone), Quentin from Eugene (winner of most vertical feet in OES), RJ from CA - bringing a huge car load of boards for demo and sale (bring an assistant next year to sell the carving stuff while we ride), Kenny from Idaho (this guy is such a smooth carver) and finally Ron T. from Maui, who flew in just for the OES and to share the memories with Jim and I. :AR15firin

AND Jeff E. and Satchmo too (always welcome)

The embers of OES are still glowing!

Rebecca, Buell and I were emailing back and forth yesterday, too tired and sore to move, about how strange it was going to be to pull into the Sunrise parking lot this morning and not see a whole bunch of other alpiners.

Boy were we wrong! Garrett and Alberta from Hawaii were still there, last day of their visit, parked right across from my Outback and Rebecca and Buell's truck. Don and Etsu showed up shortly after, and then we bumped into Brett and Kevin on the hill. Also Bob the liftie was out riding today on one of Abel's Diablos, and Doug Dryer said hello in the parking lot, albeit on skis (Would you believe his skis are 152cm?).

The weather and snow weren't anywhere near as good as it was during OES - an inch of new snow all blown away by the time the lifts opened, leaving us with some good old "east coast packed powder" - not bulletproof for sure but you had to stay nice and loose, and anyone who went down saw stars. But the OES stoke was clearly not gone, as we proceeded to trench said hardpack all morning. I had to start out on softies and wait for my muscles to loosen up before taking out the AM-T.. still recovering from 5 days of tearing it up like I never have before.

I think Etsu took some pictures, perhaps she will share.

Same time next year - March 5 - 8, 2009. That's Thursday thru Sunday again. And I'll just plan to make myself available for another Day Zero (March 4), just in case the weather is gorgeous again :)

It was a cold and windy Unofficial Day 7 with dust on hard-pack with a few shinny spots but it was still good carving conditions (photos taken by Etsu):

1. From left to right: Alberta, Buell, Don (I think my board blew away), Mike, Rebecca and Garrett.

2. Buell and Mike (check out the matching disco boots and boards).

3. The local crew reminiscing OES 2008 and contemplating how to make OES 2009 even better.

So i seem to have gotten some requests to have a Hi Res version of the video that I created... Well when I ripped it out it was a whopping 1.8GB. I could post it up on an FTP site, but not only would it take forever to upload, but it would take forever to download as well...

EDIT: CHANGE OF PLANS

Send Requests to Mike and Bonnie

I am going to get them the "finalized Version" of the DVD and they will be my distributors... O man o man, I feel like a real business now. if anyone wants to throw in a hidef helmet cam for next year, I will be willing to take it and shoot some HiDef video :)

Ok, well, after Mike dragged me over to the Bomber forum and made me read this thread, I finally had to break down and actually register ...

Thank you everyone for coming to OES and making it such a great event. It makes it all worth it.

Now, "snowboardmommy" will go back to vicariously lurking through MikeT

See you all next year!!!

(Jeana made me add that ... although :flamethro seems to be a close second favorite)

little video from our day three "powder day"...

Bachelor is an amazing mountain, only 4 inches of new snow but we are rewarded with a run like this:

Did that poor sapling make it at 0:59? ;)

Hey RDY, I expect that would be the top of a 15 foot tree. :biggthump Hopefully you can make the journey up here for next year's OES. It is a goooooood time!

Thanks for the video Allmyt and Furi. You guys were killing it on those 192 Tankers through the trees. The Bachelor crew is expecting to make some more turns with you two up here this month! Get on it!

Hey Baptiste, we will be here weekdays through April 4th. Then our company takes over our lives and we are unlikely to be seen again until next December. Hopefully you can make it. I doubt GQ can pass it up if you are here making turns.

Say hi to RJ for us.

Say hi yourself! :)

Missin the Mosaic Crew already!

I'm looking forward to getting on some dumping sierras this weekend. It won't be OES, but a few of us from there should be able to pull at little vibe out.

I was thinking about those bindings, maybe you can lift the toe cap off another pair and see if that works. At least that way you can keep the bling factor in full effect. :biggthump

Take care,

I am definately going to try to make it for this event next year. Thanks for sharing all the pics and glad to hear that you all enjoyed the tankers and sg's that RJ brought up.

cheers,

sandy

p.s. find out next week from doc if my fibia is healed so that I can hopefully enjoy riding for the end of the season...or if I need to have fixation surgery...keeping my fingers crossed. Ride safe and pray for more snow.

Just wanted to thank Mike and Bonnie & Buell and Rebeccah (sp?), for organizing such a killer event, and thanks to all who showed up for bringing the stoke.

RJ, thanks for bringing the killer fleet of demo boards. Next year I will tear myself away from the mountain for long enough to set one up and ride it. :) Those SGs looked awesome and I would have liked the chance to test out that reverse-cambered nose on the race boards...if it hadn't snowed 4 inches on Friday night. :biggthump

AWESOME event, can't wait for next year!
