Totally agree with you bordy. The hole point of the thread was that people could share thoughts like this in a positive thread rather than yet another thread bashing the manufacturers. Whats going on here?"he doesnt "bash" donek, even ONCE. I also don't understand why this forum, more than any other I've ever taken part in, is so opposed to criticism of manufacturers? It is a public forum...if someone wants to voice a legitimate concern, where's the wrong? When madd was sending half-assed boards with backwards graphics, people complained, and there were more than a few folks who said "oh get over it." alpine board manufacturers need to be encouraged, but part of that encouragement is being held to reasonable quality expectations. Anyway...I still don't think that the Donek thread is really all that critical, and is certainly valid. and I've ridden Donek, Prior, Coiler and have been 110% impressed with the performance AND quality on all three. Take your negativism elsewhere you hate-mongrel! Did you run out of space in the other thread? Im really trying for once to have a totally positive thread. He is the one pushing board design and construction right now, all others are trying to copy what he is already doing. Each year his boards are getting better and better. He is progressing at an amazing rate. When issues arise with his boards they are addressed seriously and it seems the problems are solved for the next batch of boards he makes. Plus he works very tightly with top level athletes, goes to world cups to watch the riding and his product vs. other products. The only problem we've had with working with him is getting payment to him, we have boards that we have not paid for, I don't know how he can do it. Why haul around the extra lumber? My response to the original question: I've owned (after Burton) Prior, Donek, and Madd. My next board will be a Coiler. I'm making the rounds. Of the brands I've owned... they're all awesome, I cannot choose a favorite. Someday my quiver will include one of each. I will say I like my Prior Metal 177 a lot more than the '01 WCR175 I had. An Austrian friend told me the Kessler company is owned by a wealthy family with little interest in profit, just doing it to be involved in the sport. He didn't think they were really hands-on. I beat on this board and it just doeasn't quit on me. I'm able to dive into and pop out of turns like a dolphin on crack. I love it. I loved my Donek, the Prior metal I rode was great. Madds just seem to suit my riding style they eat up anything I toss at them and spit it right back out. I could never have imagined of a board with this length so easy and smooth to ride and also good looking and well built, never had such looks of people on the slopes overhere in Europe. But I have to say, I have a POGO Longboard 175 which I also have to give the credits: a superb edgehold and a stable ride for an eight years old board and even alive after some brute moves. Not to forget my Coiler 180 RC II, which I like a lot too. I am now looking for a titanal board for next season about 185 cm, 17,5cm width, some taper and a radius of 13SCR: what will it be: a POGO custom but very expensive: about euro 1500 or a Prior, Coiler or VIRUS??? I STILL ride it, and it has a lot of pop and has well over ten thousand miles worth of ride time on it. I love it so much I found another one that was bigger and int condition on ebay and bought it without hesitation. I've ridden tons of boards, and I can homestly say that any rossignol board I've ever been on has been a dreamboat to ride in any conditions. I'd love to find someone with a rozi race board to try out, but I think I will be buying a custom Donek for next season. I have a red Rossi 167 throttle that I haven't ridden in several years. But my Sims Burners (particularly the 197) have been the bomb for me.My go to board for all kinds of carving and racing. And I was dumb enough to go in some serious bumps (soft ) on it one day just because one of the other carver guys on an all mountain or something was whining about not going off-piste. Phil Posted April 2, 2007 Report Share Posted April 2, 2007 I have been a die hard F2 fan for about 10 years. If I had to choose only one board to be on (God forbid), I would stay on an F2 GS board. I am not thrilled about teaching on a GS board, though, so you will find my on an F2 SL board most of the time. They have been amazingly durable. I even used to do a lot of park and pipe lessons and clinics on my SL. In the last four or five years, I have tried to get away from teaching FS on race boards, but the F2's killed it in the park and pipe when they had to. Like almost all of my equipment, they break at some point, but typically, my F2 boards have outlasted every other kind of board that I have ridden. That brings me to my most recent exploit. My last day working at Ski Roundtop (after ten seasons), my F2 SL broke. I won't get into specifics because I have seen how the other threads have turned out. I will say that the warranty ended earlier this season so I really had no recourse. I had no expectations, but I called Michelle anyway because the worst that could happen was for Michelle or F2 to just say no. Michelle went to F2 (thanks Michelle) and F2 warrantied the board (thanks F2). Sweet. I am already in need of a GS board for next year - the last thing that I could afford is to have to replace 2 boards. Neither Michelle nor F2 had to do what they did. I would totally have understood if they would have told me I was SOL. I greatly appreciate what they did and it has just made me a more loyal customer. I know what I want in a custom board but i'm too cheap; however I 'm givin' up some vices to buy the new scarpa X, 650.00. this new do it all boot I've been waiting for for yrs. the custom board comes next year. maybe some of you could come to schwietzer and let me demo some of these hot boards i'm readin about. that said I love mervin, they never soldout. bought a grocer 186 in '91 and ripped the alpental back country on it for yrs. really learned to carve on my alp, & two primes. love myK2 eldo built on vashon, the '90 TX 170 was my 1st metal edge board.
