  1. Thanks for all the responses! So let's see, I've had my hernia for at lease 10 years. And for the most part, it hasn't bothered me or limited me from doing all the things I enjoy. Snowboarding, cycling, even working out with weights at the gym. But during this last month of November, I've been in more discomfort than usual. And I think the straw that broke the camels back is this past Saturday, I went for a bike ride and it was bothering me while riding. Which never happened before. So, I figure at my tender age of 44, and in ok shape, might just as well get the ball rolling with my doctor to get it repaired. Or at least re-evaluated. We'll find out more Monday morning!
  2. Well, I have made a dr appt for Monday to discuss the options. If laproscopic means minimally invasive, then yes that would be my preferred method. Poor timing, but maybe I'll be able to salvage the end of the season.
  3. It looks as though my season may be in jeopardy before in even begins. DOH! Anyone out there have a hernia repair procedure done? Any idea how long I may be out of commission? I'm hoping my entire season won't need to be scrapped.
  4. I was going to ask if anyone tried to contact Catek through the Facebook link, but caspercarver, answered my question! It's too bad Cateks customer service is what it is because Jeff Caron does make a good product.
  5. Me too! I just got my new, to me(which looks brand new!), board and am interested in these BSP! Fin, you da Man! :)
  6. Hey Jack, Nice flowery decor! ;) Did you pick that out! J/K Jack! Nice SG! I'm sure you'll ride the snot out of it! Enjoy!
  7. FYI...Eric Beckmann does work for Sugarloaf, but as a snowboard instructor. Not as a boot fitter. I believe he makes footbeds and boot fittings as a hobby. I hope Eric doesn't mind that I am throwing his name all over the place! :) Eric is a member here on BOL. You may want to contact him here first. Look for him in the Member List under Beckmann AG.
  8. Fin, you need new comedic material! You already used that on slopestar! buhahahahahaha!
  9. Hey Fin, Any idea what you may be selling these for? I too may be very interested in purchasing a set! Thanks, Jeff
  10. Thanks for the enthusiam about my re-surfacing! I totally get the surfy vibe! I'm digging it! I would like to take it off your hands, if I'm the first in line! Any idea what shipping will be from Londonderry to Londonderry?
  11. Hey Steph, Don't take this the wrong way, especially since you're probably a better rider than I, but do you think that the Incline's graphics are too girly for a guy to ride? I like the clear topsheet, but is that a big flower on it? Thanks, Jeff
  12. Scrapster, that's a good question. My experience with The Starting Gate does go back a few years. Maybe they did get out of selling alpine gear. But may still be good at boot fitting. Maybe that is why people here on BOL keep mentioning Sean at Equipe Sports at Stratton Mountain in VT. Getting back to the North Conway area, there are plenty of shops that sell telemark gear that do have covection ovens to mold heat moldable liners. If you know what needs to be done and know what you are doing, one of the shops may work with you. The Speed Factory in Campton, NH tunes alpine boards and does boot work. Down the road in Plymouth, NH is a place called Richeldsons. They do good boot fittings, but are expensive. A little further down the road in Concord, NH is a place called Profile Orthotics. Jeff Bockem is the owner, does decent work and is fairly cost effective Both the Killington, VT and Sunday River, ME areas may have good boot fitters, but again I don't have any experiences there. Again hope this helps.
  13. I can't say if there is any store's in the Portland, ME area as I am not familiar with the area. If you have boots and/or footbeds, and Sugarloaf in Maine is convenient, you'd be wise to look up a BOL member by the name of Eric Beckmann. He does great work! I go to the North Conway area alot, but I can't think of any place that sells boots. Again if you have boots, you could try Stan & Dans' Ski Shop. I find them to be a little snutty as they don't sell snowboard gear. That' s really all I can think of in North Conway. There is shop in Laval, QC Canada that sells alpine equipment that I've wanted to get to for years! I think the name of the shop is Sharks. If they sell boots, they may fit them too. Can't forget about our good friends in Toronto at YYZCANUCK! They sell all the equipment you would need and probably help you out with boot fitting! Probably the best place in New England will possibly be in VT. The Starting Gate sells boots, boards and bindings and does a decent job of boot fittings. And of course there is right here Bomber Industries! The Mecca of all things alpine! Michelle is a wealth of knowledge and information! I hope this gets you in the right direction with your boot situation! Good luck!
  14. Sorry Brother Jack, no hidden agenda here. Yes, I may be a better rider than I give myself credit for...and I've come to accept the term "advanced" to describe my riding abilities. But I feel I am not as good as Jack and the Sunapee riding crew. But I digress. I have a picture of me that illustrates my issue with my riding! It's an ugly picture! I think NickG might be on the right track. "Pre-bending" possibly due to lack of initial speed! And possibly a lack of confidence of the trails condition. I have a difficult time dealing with spring loose/frozen granular type conditions. Angulating the board up to very high...angles and then the ensuing acceleration! Basically, I guess, confidence! Any of this make sense?
  15. So, let me ask a question. I am an intermediate, dare I say advanced, rider that still has a tendency to break at the waist. What could be some suggestions for a fix for me? It seems to me that I break at the waist during my initial toe/front side turn. Almost as if I am trying to turn before the board is up to speed and ready to turn. Like I'm preventing myself from tipping over. Any help for me?
  16. Let me just say how lucky we are to have the vendors/suppliers around to help us feed our addictions! Hats off and many thanks go out to people like Dan Joya of UPZ Boots; Fin & Michelle of Bomber; Sean of Donek; Dave & Andrea of YYZcanuck; Chris and his crew up at Prior; Bruce @ Coiler and to those that I may not have mentioned! The reason that I bring this up is that I was reading another thread about the UPZ ATB boots. That thread got me to thinking about whether or not the UPZ RC-8 boots were going to be coming to North America. The RC-8 boots intriuge me from a non-racing, intermidiate free-carver. So around an hour ago (about 9:00pm EST on Wednesday August 3rd, the middle of summer mind you all!), I decided to e-mail Dan Joya of UPZ to see if he will be carrying the RC-8 boots. Not expecting a response anytime soon, I went off and grabbed a bite to eat. As it turns out, Mr. Joya responded to my question in 30 minutes! He told me that he was not going to be carrying them, but told me if I did want a pair, he would get them for me! Now, if that is not customer service, I don't know what is! Just had to throw that out there! Thanks again to all our great vendors!
  17. WTF! Anyone venture a guess as to what his speeds were reaching? Anyone else watching that clip trying to tuck their arms, legs and shoulders in when he was riding between the other cars? I know I was!
  18. That sounds about right for me too. When I purchased my TD3s, The yellow e-rings were on back order and I was too impatient to wait for them to become available. I will get my chance to try the yellow e-rings possibly this week-end. We will see!
  19. Hey BlueB, What is involved in installing a BTS on these boots, if it's possible? Do you use these boots for both boarding and skiing? And if you do use these for skiing, how does the BTS work for skiing? Thanks, Jeff
  20. I have a question for the TD3 step-in users. Who has ridden both the yellow and blue e-rings? I am looking for a comparision between the soft yellow and the medium blue e-rings. I am about 155 pounds and and I think I'm an advanced level carver. Currently, I am running TD3 step-ins with the blue e-rings. I have been tempted to get me some yellow e-rings, but I'm fairly happy with where my riding is at and I am not sure I want to mess with something that is working for me. I'd love to hear some comparision! Thanks.
  21. Hey BlueB, Are these mens boots or womens? I have a small foot and it's not the easiest to find ski boots in smaller sizes. What type of skier are these boots best suited for? Beginner, Intermidiate or expert? And do you ship south ofthe border? Thanks, Jeff
  22. Anyone out there ever been to Saddleback mountain? I've heard they have been putting some money into the mountain and I was wondering if it has any good carving terrain and how their grooming is? Thanks!
