You can mount hard bindings to any board mostly but most of them will suck if they arent stiff enough. Being a Patroller myself in British Columbia, I would suggest to you to get an All mountain type hardboot board.(Coiler AM, Donek Axis, Prior AWD or 4X4 etc.) I have a Coiler AM and it will do anything I put it down. If you are Patrolling on Groomed runs only, get yourself a medium (12-13M)radius race board It wont do everything, but it will work for you 90 percent of the time. I have size 12 boots and rode a Coiler Pr 188 with a 19cm waist with 60/58 angle. Most AM boards are in the 20-22 cm range so angles shouldnt be a problem. If you are a CSPS patroller, there is lots of help for Boarders and skills to learn, I am an On hill instructor so if you have any questions, feel free to ask.
  2. If you go and test drive the cars, test out an automatic and then a Manual one. A smile will come across your face with the manual and you will make up your mind. I did it with my old 98 legacy. Nicest car I have owned yet but not enough room for gear, dogs and the rest of the family. Its too bad but when we downgrade in a few years, we will probably pick up another one.
  3. Been fishing here in the Okanagan a bit. I mostly troll flies on lakes because my wife can't cast yet. When I am by myself, I cast dries or nymphs. I use a 6 weight setup with floating or sinking lines. I recently built up a 6 wt 3 pc 10' Baston rx7 rod with carbon seat, and Ti saltwater guides with blue ceramic inserts. It sure looks neat. It sure is a long rod , but it will work good when I am Float tubing on Hike in Mountain lakes. On another note, do any one of you know how to release epoxy, I have a reel seat ring that accidentally got glued in place. How can I release it?
  4. Hey Barton. In Kelowna, you can ride your bike all winter, maybe a few snow days but it only last a week or 2. The valley weather is very temperate, (winter average is -1 C) The Ski areas are above 5000' compared to ~1000' in the valley. Kelowna has a major pain in its side, the floating bridge that connects the east and west side. It is being replaced but will be a few years. Traffic in the summer is sometimes gridlocked because of the tourists but other than that it is a really nice town of 100 000 people. Real estate is crazy, starter homes are hovering around 200 000 now. But renting is feasable. If you come out, there are tons of French Canadians around also. I am sure you will find some groups to go riding with.
  5. Cars kill many people everyday and they don't ban them. I wonder how many of those injuries involved alcohol. I love the Kite tube Idea, I think it would be cool to be the first one on the lake with one and show up the wakeboarder types. It does look like they are going about -~40 mph, the water at that speed is like a rock, it would be a good idea to have a helmet, neck brace and some motocross armour on to save your bones.
  6. \ I was there for one of their Demo days and one of our groomer operators almost backed over the tiller as the plastic sheet folded under the rotating drum. I was quite funny for us but not for the demo staff. It sure was nice driving top of the line equipment though. They did show us how to make moguls on a slope, but the ones they made were 12 feet apart and staggered. they would build some snow in front of the blade then lift the blade and drive over it while tilling it then dig up another blade full and drop it again. they would then go back up and move over half a mogul width and make some in between the previous ones.
  7. How much would shipping be to Canada and also do you use paypal?
  8. Haha, like throwing dynamite into heavy snow laden bowls, rescuing Snow cats that have gotten stuck while winching a run. Skiing closed areas that are full of danger to see if it is ok to open to the public. Most of the menial tasks are done by the paid patroll staff like ropes and fencing and marking major hazards. I am one of the volounteer patrollers. No pay but free lift passes and the knowledge that I can help someone if needed. First tracks?
  9. Well Duh, I voted Patrolling. Rule number one of Snow patrol, There is beer at the cabin after closing sweep! I like it. It is a good way to meet people, we get first tracks in the morning every day. We have our own space and can hang out in the first aid hut at the top of the hill if it is blustery. You always have someone to ride the mountain with and carpool to the mountain. We get free passes for us and our family. The training is quite a commitment, 2 days a week for 3 months and then 3 or 4 weekends at the hill learning tobbogan handling. We dont have to teach whining kids. Did I also mention we always get first tracks. Fresh cord is awesome on morning sweep. We have awesome mid season parties and usually do some summer functions too. Our Apex patrol is known to be some of the most hardcore. We bring a Keg to most events at the hill and to out of town training events and seminars. It is kinda funny, when we show up with the truck somewhere, everyone asks where the keg is. In Canada, there are lots of boarders on the patrol. I was asked to be the assistant On snow Co-ordinator for the South Pacific Zone. (Southern BC-Vancouver to Alberta border.) That makes 2 hard booters on the committee which will boost snowboard specific training.
  10. To tell you truth.......No I didnt but now I do and my life is better for it. Thanks for the Info. :p
  11. About a triple Crown and single crown fork, if you want to do some trick riding and barspins, go with a single crown. If you want something that will snap your heat tube off without breaking the fork, go with the triple. Most newer single crown have more lockout and travel length adjustments than triple crowns. (Makes climbing and flat riding a breeze) If you want beefiness in a single crown, make sure the stanchions are the same size as the JR t and you shouldnt have many problems. Also I would go with the hayes brakes also. I have the HFx 9's and no problem except poor bleed jobs by yours truly. I did however upgrade to stainless braided lines which change the feel of the brakes for the better.
  12. I like Bubbles, I think he is cool
  13. I owned a 165 model of the same board but I bought it in 1995. Unless they are making them again, I have my doubts. The graphics are the same also. It was a good all mountain board though. it a bit on the soft side, but easy to throw it around.
  14. sometimes I get frisky and cook supper and do dishes after, that get the scorecard filled in no time. Actually my wife and I cook pretty well evenly, If it is a stay at home day for her, she cooks sometimes and I cook most of the rest of the time. We want to redo the kitchen and I even have some say in what goes in there. I told her, I do half the cooking, I will have my kitchen the way I want too. We want to put an island in and I want a bar sink on it, she says it wont be used but I think it would be a great Idea, then someday I can take it out and put a keg tap in its place. sometimes they just dont understand. Maybe we can have a hybrid poster called Gleb-sub that would post a reply after each and every other reply from all the BOL members, his post count would be huge. Fin would have to ban him because he filled up the bandwith for 3 months straight. :D I dont care how much people post. It is a forum, if no one talked here, it would be really boring.
  15. Other than the obvious, is there any difference between a toe that detaches and an intec heel which is also detatchable. To the OP, how does the upz compare to the softness of the lemans boot. Dan Yoja only lives an hour from my house and I was interested a few years ago in some boots but he was out of stock. Maybe I would be interested when my Lemans boots wear out. Also I have a riding buddy looking for new boots. If they are on the softer side, I could steer him into a pair also. We are all mountain type riders so we need some flex for the trees, steeps and bumps.
  16. Apex sucks,(JUst kidding) especially this year we got totaly dumped on every week and there was hardly any groom at all. I was a good thing I got my Coiler AM to eat it all up and go home smilling. Apex is a hidden gem. No lift lines and tons of very steep narrow terrain. If you find open bowls boring, check out our stuff, It will definitely challenge you. There are only a handfull of good carving runs but the ones that are doable are a good consistent pitch and perfect snow to hold my ass from skidding. Oh yeah and we have some awesome parties at the ski patrol cabin and also at the On hill bar (gunbarrel) As for Baldy, I hear that thursdays( closed monday to wednesday) after it snowed all week is heaven up there. I have yet to ride there but there is plans for an expansion as it has been bought by some Americans I think. Maybe next year I will have more time to check out the other areas.
  17. If you like the Kicking horse idea, Apex in Penticton will give you a run for your money. Steep and narrow for the top of the mountain then groomed blues to the lifts. I think I waited 5 minutes all year for the lift and during the week, they dont even set up the lift corrals. Penticton is an all service town and Big white + silver star+MT baldy are within 1-3 hours away. if you dont feel like skiing, in the valley, there is mountain biking and kite surfing to keep you busy, not to mention the great wineries of the okanagan valley to peruse and get drunk on tastings....dont drink and drive though.
  18. Yeah, Bruce made it thicker to reinforce the inserts because I was paranoid of having them rip out. Just make sure you use longer bolts to mount your bindings.
  19. are you going to make a nice butterfly for the Coiler I sold you to make it stiffer?
  20. Thanks for clearing that up. There was no link in the first post. :D
  21. it would help if you posted the story too cuz that would be cool
  22. he needs to be crouched to keep pressure on his edge. If you run fast speeds on a steeper pitch, and you stiff leg it, you will kick out easily. if you crouch down and get closer to your board, you have way more control and you can ride it like a train untill you want to change edges.
  23. I had the same problem untill yesterday. My foot would cramp up and I would have to take a 10 minute rest then I was good for the day. It was really painfull. Yesterday I went into the mountain shop and set up an appointment to get my boots blown out near the front buckle. It worked and now I am pain free.
  24. I have an Evil sports sticker on my coiler and it makes me the best. Seriously, I havent ridden with too many other guys but I do know One hardbooter that can do the bumps like a pro skier. Were not talking small bumps either, these are late season ungrooomed all year bumps. I'll call him Dario.
