  1. Freakanomics Radio just rebroadcast an interesting podcast about the subject of How to Become Great at Anything. Interviews and stories are fascinating to me. I think dedicated practice is the key to improvement. Doing more than you are comfortable with, striving to get better, getting feedback from others who are better than you, not being afraid to look foolish once in a while as you attempt to get better through trial and error (or by doing practice drills that might look a bit loopy to some people :-) ... If you're interested, here is a link to th podcast: http://freakonomics.com/podcast/peak-rebroadcast/
  2. Thanks for this discussion. Good to learn about some of the other Burton powder boards available out there. I ride an older Malolo 158 that I ride in powder and for days when I'm gravitating toward off piste. I really like it for powder and crud and its pretty good for getting around on groomers between ungroomed areas. Late in the day, it's tight sidecut does get kind of a bit much - when I'm tired, and just trying to navigate the bumped-up ways out. Great happiness to have moved to a powder board on days when its the best tool. I used to ride a supermodel with bindings set back, or more typically, an 163 edeck with binding set back on powder or deeper "new snow" days. Those worked well and I thought they were the best tool, but a dedicated powder board is the ticket on powder days. I would love try a Landlord and other powder boards. Prior's lineup of powder decks all look intriguing - The Powdersticks look neat - like they would be fun in open bowls and good on groomers. Donek Nomad looks awesome too - love the idea of its tight sidecut radius transitioning into a longer sidecut radius. 7 - 11 sounds like a lot of fun for powder and for getting around in general. Yay steep and deep in hardboots!
  3. What Jack said, and what Gladwell describes in his non-fiction book, Outliers. Basically, that the key to achieving world-class expertise in any skill, is, to a large extent, a matter of practicing the correct way, for a total of around 10,000 hours.
  4. I was riding older 324s and upgraded to 700s. I found my new 700s to be too stiff for my liking. I purchased a bts kit with blue springs and like the boots a lot now.
  5. Hi, Was wondering if plate bindings can be mounted up to a Burton board that utilizes their channel system?
  6. Points well taken TLN. I've valued these too highly. Would anyone like to make an offer?
  7. 2001 lightly used Burton Driver Boots in very good condition. US size 9.5 - 42.5 euro. I purchased these new and used them only a few times as they are 1/2 size too small for me. They are a stiff soft-boot. Inner liner and inner-lacing also in good condition. $80 US plus shipping. Happy to entertain any questions or post more photos if desired. Thnx!
  8. No choice in the matter. You is what you is
  9. 5' 11", 155 lbs, Prior FLC 177, Deeluxe 700 with BTS (blue springs), TD3 bindings, regular stance at +/-20 inch wide and centered, 55 degree rear binding angle, 68 degree front binding angle, three degree front binding toe lift, three degree rear binding heal lift, no cant.
  10. We have a couple of early Bridgestones. There're our town bikes now. I'm mountain biking a lot while the weather cooperates, but not on my MB3 :-)
  11. Maybe I gushed too much, but my wife and I had fun during our mid-week stay (we were not there on the weekend, which I'm sure would impact the experience). Perhaps I should have qualified my earlier comments by explaining that while I love carving groomers, I also spend a ton of time riding powder and off piste (in hard boots and plate bindings - on a number of different boards). When things start getting less favorable off piste I begin gravitating to the beautiful groomers. Yes, steep place. (I like steep.) There are areas that are not steep too. Not a carving Mecca for sure, but it all depends on what your after I guess. Grand Targee is a great option. We have ridden there a couple of times and had fun. Nice cat skiing there. While we were in Jackson we saw an advertisement for a package deal that included bfast, round trip bus, and lift ticket at Targhee for a good price - i forget how much exactly they were asking, but that might be an option if you what a day side-trip. We spent a lot of time off piste at Jackson, and that was a big part of our fun there. We checked out areas like the Hobacks and other steep ungroomed areas. Our hearts where in our throats a number of times getting scared exploring around, but what a cool place. The tram to the top is an incredible experience in itself, but it is not for anything less than experts and if you are not comfortable riding off piste to get to a groomer then this is not the lift to take. To me it seemed like a big place with a lot of variety. We didn't try to drop any chutes or go anywhere that was over our head, and there are a lot of places there where we would have been out of our league. Anyway, thought I'd give a little more input.
  12. We really enjoyed riding there in January this season. It was the first time we visited - were there mid week for three days. Rode our soft carving boards that we like for exploring around - carving goomers, hitting cut up crud on the sides, tree shots, and left-over powder for a couple of days. We were hanging with som,e skiing friends who arrived a day earlier, so that was cool. They had gotten a bit of a feel for the place and that helped us get oriented. Its a huge mountain with everything from the most incredible drops and steeps and side-country opportunities to great groomers and terrain parks and on and on. Huge place. You can find whatever suits your fancy there. On the last day I was on my prior 177 flc and had a blast on it. There are some really wide groomers and all sorts of terrain and steepnesses of runs. Snow conditions were outstanding. It had snowed a lot prior to our arrival, but it didn't snow while we were there. We had our powder boards in the truck too, so we were ready had it kept dumping. It can certainly snow a ton in Jackson Hole
  13. Those should be retired. Save yourself a trip to the ER (and anyone else you might take out when they break).
  14. Just sent you a personal message. Thanks!
  15. Hi IBrussel, Sounds good. Do the edges and base have some tunes left in them? Thanks in advance, Chris/Lamby
  16. Hi Breeseomatic, We'll probably be up on Tues. Would be fun to hook up with you for a few. We board all over the mountain, so will look for you. Great conditions here now. Had fun slooping around today in the snow storm. We were just over in Jackson. It was our first trip there and we really enjoyed it.
  17. Looking to purchase a Burton E Deck or E Series 163.
  18. Such incredibly sad sad news. Our hearts go out to Jerry, his kids, and all the people touched by this tragedy. I don't know what significance it has to this really, but Jerry just happens to be the most welcoming, giving, friendly and stoked for snowboarding and his friends and family of anyone on the hill. So I guess I'm just saluting a brother and hoping he can find some peace here and there in the coming days. Our sympathy to a great man and his kids.
  19. Great riding with you today Jer! Super conditions in Sun Valley
  20. As to your plan to see if cortisone can boost u through riding season... I had meniscus tears and subsequent surgery about 20 years ago. before going for surgery I had a couple of cortisone shots, but later learned that it is really hard on your tissues. I had the surgery and my recovery involved a specific physical therapy regimen that brought the operated knee and leg back stronger than ever. I would recommend that you perform a Google search on the topic, "cortisone shot side effects". Good luck and I hope your knee issues improve markedly in 2016!
  21. Hoping your seasons take off soon. Thanks for the greetings and good wishes. Will carve some for you:)
  22. Thanks for the pictures Boots. I'm on the fence, so if you and beastrider can strike a deal plz do so.
  23. Interested. Can you post a couple pics?
