Not finding a bail in a few local shops, I'll probably do that (drill the rivets, install a slide-on bail I already have and use stainless steel screws and Loctite). If that doesn't work, I'll contact Steven. The front bail was replaced long ago by a sturdy two-piece model that didn't require to be slid unto the wire. This board is used 2-3 times a year by a 100-lbs 15-year old girl. If I were to replace the bindings, I'd replace the board as well and we'd end up with a 4x4 hole pattern. So in the meantime, there's no reason to put much money in that board/binding. Thanks for all answers.

Hi, I had lent an old Burton carving board to my daughter-in-law but one front plastic bail broke (the other one had been replaced long ago). I'm now looking for a replacement bail that can be installed unto the steel wire without removing the latter as the whole thing is riveted down and cannot be disassembled. I attached a pic. Went back to the store last night. Different salesclerk. Boots buckled fine. I'll never know what we did wrong the first time. TF left liner way too tight. Standard liners fit better, but I'd need 28.5 then (smaller shell :) I might have to wait till next season to find them.

No, I didn't mold them. I didn't buy them either. Since the 225 would close and not the 325, and I'm told they're the same shell, albeit stiffer (325), I was puzzled. I'll return tomorrow and check for alternate mounting holes.

Hi, I currently ride old SB 124 Raichle boots in size 30. They're a bit oversize and this could be what causes my shin pain. Last Saturday I had the chance to try both the 225T and 325 boots in size 29. While I could buckle up the 225, albeit starting with toes, then top, then middle, I couldn't close the 325 (even swapping liners). it's only on the toe buckle that I could make the buckle and the toothplate meet. Is this normal? Can the 325 ship with short buckles on a 29 shell? I would prefer the 325 as the 225 seem a bit soft for my 210 lbs+. I understand the Deeluxe boots are expensive for what they are, but I can't find the UPZ or Head boots in a store (Montreal, Qc, Canada), and buying boots online without ever trying them before seems very risky. Advice welcome.

Given that you wrote me you had no warranty that I'd send the bindings (after making an offer), I figured a scanned receipt would provide you with more details and perhaps reassure you. UPS gives you a printed receipt. So I read and typed the number for you. ETA is tonight (Tuesday).

The heel cables are built like brake cables on a bicycle: there's an outer sheath made of plastic tubing inside which there's a metal liner made of wires (a brake cable uses a spring instead - better). Inside this sheath runs a metal cable that pulls the binding. The outer sheath only prevents the cable from actually touching and rubbing agains the boot liner; it suffers some damage over time, especially at the base between boot and heel, but as long as the inner cable is intact, the heel is perfectly functional (that's the case here). Unlike on a bicycle, the outer sheath has no functional effect - it could be removed and the heel mechanism would still work. If I were to re-install those heels on boots, after screwing everything in place, I'd wrap the outer sheath with tape, or, better, with heat shrink tubing. Here's a close-up view of the said outer sheath and the inner cable. As for the pads, they're in good shape. These were our bindings up to last year. The only reason we changed is because we got convinced step-in bindings were too stiff for extreme carving, and we switched to bail bindings (I must admit I miss the convenience, though). They are in perfect working order. And yes, each binding set comes wih a pair of heels (left and right).
