  1. My wife and I are headed to Southern CA to be with family for Christmas and we we're thinking about Brian Head. It looks to be about 9 hours away (we are driving from Idaho), so we were thinking it might be a good place to shoot for - for our first day of driving. Does anyone have any thoughts on the place? Thanks, Lamby:confused:
  2. More Runs Open On Baldy Looking good for more terrain by this weekend here, but man, is it cold. Minus 8 on our thermometer this A.M.
  3. I hope the snow keeps piling up for you. We have not gotten much snow here in Sun Valley. We have had cold weather at least, which has allowed the resort to make a lot of snow. We are open top to bottom on both sides of the mountain and it looks like more terrain should be opening up soon. Hoping the weather man gets it right and we see some white stuff falling this weekend.
  4. thanks for making and posting that video - most interesting.
  5. Great stuff Caspercarver. Especially like the parts where you are stepping up to the table-top type spot, but all excellent. The backwards footage toward theend is really cool too - would be cool to put together a long bit of video that is presented like that - with a long shot of backwards riding - played backwards - might look like you are riding up the mountain!
  6. I walk to the lifts, so I rarely carry more than one board over. I don't carry spare parts, but do make sure my binders are in good condition. I'm on old TD1s, but I have recently replaced the bails on two of the pair that I own - I'm riding on those bindings exclusively and have marked them with the date that the change-out was made, so I can keep track of the age of the bails, and change them out before they get too old. I keep a 5 mm Allen key and "mini-tool" in my pocket for adjustments. The Allen key is all I need for my bindings, but I like to carry the mini-tool so that I can assist my wife (rides Burton race plates) if she of any friends/acquaintances need a tool. I usually have a food bar and some water with me. I carry the water in a small collapsible "Platypus" water bottle.
  7. They don't relate to a boot size, but they can be handy as a reference when you are adjusting your bindings for your particular boots. I'm quite sure those race plates will work for your size boots.
  8. So far, lots of failures, no wrecks resulting in injury or in taking anyone else out. I used to break burton bails, then I switched to TD's. Thought the TD's were indestructible. After having used my TD1s for many years I began to see failure on front bails. I replaced my front and rear bails on one set of my TD1's last year. Rode that pair with confidence last season. This year I have ordered another another set of bails for another of my sets of TD1's - after breaking another front bail on one of the older sets I was still using (thought that set was less well used, but it was obviously time to change out the bails). Between my wife and I we have broken a lot of bails. My wife still rides burton race plates, but i make sure we change out the bails often. Perhaps off of the subject some, but... If you are looking to buy used bindings - don't buy them unless you are going to replace the bails. Selling used bindings? Maybe not a good idea to pass along those old binders. something to consider

    Helmet Cameras

Enjoyed watching Shawndoggy's vids. Last year Shawndoggy and others were posting POV videos and I liked following that discussion and seeing people's work. I'd enjoy getting a helmet cam, but am also wondering if better, less expensive technology is close at hand. Still would enjoy having the ability to get some of the perspectives a POV setup allows. Last year I tried to see if I could jury rig my little flip video cam onto my helmet with a mini tripod and duct tape. I built a pretty flimsy rig up before abandoning the idea - could just see that little camera winging across the slope after the first turn.
  11. been watching W/B get hit and wishing we were there. Great start to a season of Olympics!
  12. Some years ago I made the transition from a soft set up to hard boots on a Burton e-deck - a 163. This board is out of production, but they can sometimes be found for sale on eBay or this site. It seems to be getting harder to find them in the 163 length, with the 156 and 148 lengths being easier to find (my wife rides a 156 alot). The E-deck is a is softer, more forgiving platform. More so than a lot of boards with similar side-cut radiuses (sidecut of 9m on the 163 - around 8.5 on the 156 I think). A lot of stiffer decks with that type of side-cut radius are considered more of a SL/slalom deck. SL decks are great at making tight turns, one after the other. This can be great if you are running gates or want to make many turns in a row to work on your strength. The e-series is more noodley, so it doesn't demand that you stay on it all the time. I still use an e-deck alot, for new-snow days and all-mountain riding. It is great for playing on the sides then jumping onto the groom, and back again. Other older/used "freecarve" decks you can look for might include Burton Coil, Nidecker Escape, Burton Fusion. I have a couple of Nidecker Escapes for sale - a 158 and a 166. They are not as soft at the burton "e"s, but are still more forgiving freecarve decks (with a sidecut of around 9). Selling each for $100 plus shipping. goodtrails@gmail.com Best, Chris
  13. 529 inches last year at Grande Foggy! Wow. Got to get over there more often.
  14. Wow, I didn't know they got such a hit! Thanks for sharing those pics Jer. Looks like another storm is approaching for this weekend. I'm hoping we can soon share some photos of a similar scene here in SV. (Yea right - maybe I should be realistic and hope to see an angry inch of white here in Rainshadowland.) Seeya, Chris
  15. I voted for the discussions of alpine, but it is more than that for sure. All but the last for me. I love the forums and hearing what is going on in other parts of the country and world. Everything from who's getting snow to why I should get out of the 80's and onto a new deck. Its fun to feel like I'm part of this neat community of people. I like checking out the classifieds and I really like the videos people post. I like most everything about the BOL site.
  16. :) Yep, I'm a tight wad. You should see some of the spider webs on my wallet.
  17. 18. Thanks for posting this. Very cool.
  19. Yep, there's always some there for the gettin'. Thanks again for sharing the video - its a blast looking at carving footage. Chris
  20. Fun video Jer! I especially like the second or third "scene" (looks like Mid-River too me) - great riding all around. Is that Laurie near the end of the video? - on what appears to be Round House - looks like her, then you sweep in with some killer gs turns. Sweeeeet:biggthump
  21. Looks like another bluebird day for ya - don't think I'll make it up - only in spirit today. I hope we get snow tonight. That would be a treat.:p
  22. Thanks for posting the pics J. Its cool to see you bustin' up Ridge late in the day like that. Everyone I talked to on the lift today was raving about Thursday's conditions and light crowds. I could believe it - Friday was no slough either - busier I'm sure, but a relative thing, eh? The snow over on Seattle is holding up so great, and what a place to warm up. Limelight was groomed and terrific, and Ridge/Cut-off was such a blast. Had some laps in Frenchman's - wicked exciting:eplus2: Don't you wish you had a movie of your whole day?
  23. Awesome - This might be the ticket. Hope you use two cans up next season!
