I used the Gopro for a few runs in the morning on Wednesday, I forgot how hard it was to ride while trying to hold a camera on a stick. The camera was pointed too high, but I got a couple good photos.

Neat picture, but the carve didn't end that well, notice the nose of my board is a few inches off the snow

I moved my back binding to the furthest apart slot tonight, so now stance width is about 20.5". Felt a little awkward at first, conditions at Powder Ridge were decent so I don't know if it was better or not, would have been nice to tried while riding gates at Buck on Wednesday.

Agreed. You also cannot tell that the hills we have here in MN are quite small;)

Did the return to Earth when your nose popped out hurt? I can feel the chatter on my shins just looking at that.

Here's the video from the run, my tail didn't break free so it wasn't that bad, but lost a lot of speed. It happen around 21 seconds.

Morning

early morning... got there 8:30am. walke up the hill. took about 15 minutes. got to the top. overheated. the chair lift started running. surprised one lifty when i came down. the other two were bumping chair Gangnam Style. wish i had a video... guess you had to be there.

anyways... flat light... conditions were very soft and slow for carving. ideal for skiing. couldn't push the board too hard. i was leaving deep ruts in the snow. i wasn't feeling it. about an hour into it i changed to skis out of respect to the other regulars especially the old woman. didn't last long. left at 10:30am.

Twelve Monkeys

flipped through free movies on comcast.

oh hellz yeah! its got it all... from time travel to monkeys.

<a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/-5zBl6rFAyTUoK2fj9vdX1SUaNqTJL8dCS1v9m_ZN1A?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-0UkuIpoj1VM/USlQoMEtmMI/AAAAAAAAAyc/8zVZTUMEQ64/s400/12monkeys.jpg" height="400" width="285" /></a>

Afternoon

after Twelve Monkeys, saw the sun out. went back out for about an hour or so. conditions were tracked out. bumpy in some places but carveable. it was better than riding in the morning.

i guess i will be going to buck sunday morning.

Polar Bear Plunge

ms. bobble and i went for a quick walk. we could hear crowds down by the beach from our house (about a block away). it was the Polar Bear plunge. got the camera. learned that 1,043 people registered to plunge.

conditions were excellent! a little crowded for a sunday morning. some people were curious about our boards.

i stayed till 2pm. the snow was getting softer and more packed down. easy carving.

Evening

i was apprehensive about going out. when i left work it was 40F. ugh. almost stayed home.

conditions were fast and grippy! better then sunday morning! :biggthump glad i went! :biggthump

a couple ski clinics were going on. a woman stopped me in the lift line and said "i just want to say how awesome you look from the chair". i think she was an instructor. :D

tried to take some photos of the full moon but didn't turn out. it was a little foggy too. these skiers saw me taking photos of the moon and wanted in on the action.

Evening

snow conditions were excellent for carving. fast snow, still grippy.

<a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/lgNAtqpRk-H-HJlwmhK6F5UF5wiiWRCKXH71B9HvY0U?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-j-zMdwhZw84/US1y_euR0lI/AAAAAAAAA0E/moe5Cid6yxM/s800/DSC00976.JPG" height="533" width="800" /></a>

obligatory photo from top of crossroads. i don't know why i do it but everyone else was doing it too. that tiny shadowy figure to the left of the ski tower likes to yell alot.

<a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/D-nnLw-IkZO6cDxW5EC-LZUF5wiiWRCKXH71B9HvY0U?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-dyN_hAh0NxQ/US1zJb7wDqI/AAAAAAAAA0U/yK1UzIJGFUM/s800/DSC00978.JPG" height="533" width="800" /></a>

my only complaint was that warners, olympic, and milkroad had racing going on. hey gerg, if you're reading this... will there be racing going on wednesday?

ski challenge (or whatever its called) had set up two courses on milkrun and here i thought they were done. a half hour after i've been there the high school team sets up a course adjacent to the blue course. one of their poles was maybe 10 feet away from the gate. i thought that took balls. the ski challenged never went down blue course.

<a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/YHDe7dx9tcGKqVX1zruQCJUF5wiiWRCKXH71B9HvY0U?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-DtoXOkcYZ5s/US1zEL7QAAI/AAAAAAAAA0M/jRH-O5l7ADA/s800/DSC00977.JPG" height="533" width="800" /></a>

so, kids are cutting across the crossroads and milkrun as they are wont to do. one of the high school coaches gets really really angry. he macguyvers an invisible snare to catch those rabscallions. he runs it down halfway down milkrun so the only way to the chalet is to walk up from the chair.

<a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/i9Ha3OuY7TTOsOG8rDDhcpUF5wiiWRCKXH71B9HvY0U?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-K8bLcI6s8Dc/US1y2eWANeI/AAAAAAAAAzw/0pacNMxLrAc/s800/DSC00974.JPG" height="533" width="800" /></a>

i dunnoooo... not much of a deterrent if you can't see it. :nono:

<a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/xW4stXMD_kPGyVDGLa68xJUF5wiiWRCKXH71B9HvY0U?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-sP62eyVIBqs/US1y5qGOd1I/AAAAAAAAAz4/7rgcDnaipbo/s800/DSC00975.JPG" height="533" width="800" /></a>

sure enough, a kid bombs the run towards the chalet. at the last millisecond he sees the coat line, tries to duck under it... falls down... gets up... catches heel-side edge... falls down on head... gets up... and still crosses the course and gets away. that cracked me up.

Wednesday morning the Race Clinic is on from 10 to noon, and the Ski Jammers have their year-end race on Milkrun in the evening.

The Buck Team is using Milkrun at night these days as they train for the final events & championships of the year. That's in addition to their courses on Olympic Dreams.

Saturday will be a busy day, Airbag at the bottom of Redtail Ridge, Winchfest on Milkrun, Bed Race at tubing at 5pm. Sunday is just the Airbag Jump. Last chance of the season to try it out, and on Sunday Josh Tranby will be here from 12 to 3pm giving tips on using the Airbag. Should be fun!

Evening

snow was fast and carveable but rough snow towards bottom of crossroads. rock hard ice towards the chair. it seemed colder than yesterday.

I'm jealous of the Buck Hill snow conditions... The whole hill at Powder Ridge was so hard packed and rough it was unrideable this evening.

buck does a decent job with snow. i think conditions last night would've been better had it not been the cold wind.

i was telling trent about how erik got ear-raped on the chair last weekend by a skier. i was on the chair and just looked uphill. i remember something about the guy talking about ballet skiing.

quick google search... "Ski Ballet at its Best". OMG!!! this is hilarious (probably not safe for work).

Evening

no wind like yesterday. felt warmer too. conditions were great for carving from top to bottom. i didn't find any ice except in the lift line. :biggthump

the ski school instructors were having races. run was crowded with orange/red jackets. saw an instructor with a burton factory prime. i didn't recognize him. he wasn't wearing a helmet. going for that gilmore look i guess.

as i was leaving i saw the winch for Winchfest. a couple guys were out in the parking lot and were trying to start the motor for the winch. hard to describe the thing... it was like the size of a power washer with a reel and a rope handle coming out of it. they were having problems. i was going to take a picture of the thing but thought that would be too weird even for me.

debating where to ride this weekend.

some photos.

debating where to ride this weekend.

Spirit this Sunday, or at least sometime before the end of the season. Contact Russ (rwmaron), he may have some passes available.

The Spirit Mt posse is planning a trip to Indianhead Thursday next week if anyone's interested.

Got my Coiler Nirvana today and tried it out at Highland this evening...ohmmmm...

A google map of Buck hill.

http://goo.gl/maps/rccRg

Google has been adding ski places to their map. Might be more useful if you're at a mountain.

Not sure if its that accurate. No mention of the rail yard.

Somewhere I clicked on a reviews link. Some guy ranked buck for being poor.

"The last time I went to Buck Hill the staff was rude and short with me. The majority of the people on the hill were snotty spoiled kids plotting to steal peoples equipment. Several people ran into my 4 year old son whom was probably the best skier on the hill without apologizing when it was obviously there fault. The lift operators were not attentive to anyone and rude to the other guests on the hill. I've been here several times before and it's been much better however this was the last straw. I'd rather go to a real hill that can actually treat a guest with respect. Not worth the $30 ticket. Go to Welch."

For a second I thought I was going to get blamed. Several people ran into the best skier on the hill? Snot nosed kids plotting to steal equipment?!? The lefties were rude? Come on!

I've read people post stuff like that whining about Powder Ridge too. I've never been to a ski hill and have had that bad of an experience. I feel bad for that person's kid... 'the best skier on the hill'

It looks like google maps is missing all the terrain park runs, I didn't see them listed for Powder Ridge either. The only other ski hill I saw on google maps in MN was Coffee Mill.
