west carven
howdy all work till 11:45 then up to the big. got on snow about 1pm, bumped up with what looked like an inch plus of new already into small piles. snow is like fine sugar and underneath is funky snow. light fog on top and a little chilly. kinda of a weird day with weird people on the hill, groups of people stops in the middle of the runs and go with out concern of others. kids straight lining, families with little kids, wasn't busy, but just in the way. not a good day... rode my fp171 from 1 till 4... west carven
howdy all work till 12:00 then up to the big. got on snow about 1pm. nothing new and groomers are getting buffed out smooth. the big looked nice in the morning when i was at work, the sun was shinning on it then it looked like the inversion was setting up. snow conditions were better today at 1pm and i had a much better time than yesterday. sunny on top and clouds below start near village level. always takes me a bunch of runs to get my legs and get used to whatever board i'm riding then it's fun time. stayed on chair 2 cause chair 1 was kinda busy and chair 2 was pretty good with no wait. forcast tonight is 2 degrees then a warm up by tuesday then a little cool down by the end of next week, maybe a little snow tomorrow... rode my f2157sc from 1 till 4... MJDC25
Just arrived at whitefish, here until next friday(Jan 11). Brought my soft setup as well as my 4wd 174 (which hasn't been ridden in 2 years for a multitude of reasons). Hope to get it out this week, assuming I can locate a 5mm hex wrench which seems to have disappeared from my boot bag in transit :(. Anyone around? west carven
howdy all well, had to work wednesday, but could have gone up, but didn't cause heard it was one chair vis top to bottom. worked all day thursday, but looking at the big, super high overcast and looked like it was snowing, but it was very high winds blowing snow around. we are in storm conditions. this morning heard it was very windy and cold, but as i got on snow about 1pm hardly anyone around and chair 2 was perfectly groomed and snow was firm and grippy. no winds and cold yet comfortable temps and the sun was coming out and the sunset was beautiful when i left at 5pm. wed 2in., thu 5in., fri 0in. the new snow from the past few days made it really nice. rode a new to me older palmer carbon circle twin tip with hardboots and thought it's gonna suck or be really fun, it's 25.7cm wide. super fun board!!!... perfect groomers conditions, best carving day so far... rode my 164palmer from 1 till 5... west carven
howdy all kind of a strange day, light fog and snowing from the early morning. there was two inch plus on top of eds and a little less on the summit. an inversion was setting up and by 11am, blue sky on top and dumping snow down low. first few hours you could plow thru and carve the groom underneath then it starts to pile up and got bumpy. the new snow was lite in the morning then a little wet in the afternoon. there was a flood in the summit house and heard there was six inches of water and an electrical fire. took it easy today and cruised around... rode my 164palmer from 9 till 1... Cuban Carving Gooding
Eleven days! Im ready for my trip. My legs not so much. I have only been on snow 8 hours. I will have to make the best of it. West did you get the snow machine turned on?
west carven
howdy all big mtn reported one inch new, but as i got on snow on chair 6 first thing in the morning see a boarder coming down and can't see his snowboard. there was a good three inch plus of light fluffy snow in the village and a good five plus at mid mountain and a little less on top. it's cold and the snow is very fluffy and when on edge you can cut right thru it. started the morning teaching a girl on hardboots, lent her board and boots. she is a good boarder so she got it pretty quick, still needs to feel the edge. snowed all day. cuban snow is good to go... rode my f2157sc from 9 till 4... west carven
howdy all after yesterdays dump and piles at the end of the day, it all got groomed down somewhat unevenly. slightly warmer temps and the moisture of the new snow made some parts slightly hard pack and some parts soft snow, so a bit uneven, but with no new today it was pretty good for carving. rode a new to me coiler 176 vsr medium, fun board makes tight turns and really damp. fog got thick in the afternoon mostly from chair 2 and up. got rime in the foggy parts so lots of moisture in the air and should get groomed down nice and firm. forcast is no new snow for most of next week so groomers should get good. rode my 176vsr m from 9 till 1... west carven
howdy all worked the morning and looking at the big and thinking please be slow so i can go up and enjoy a beautiful bluebird day. as i got on snow it was just as i imagined, perfect groomers and chair 2 looked like early morning. hardly anyone around and temps was comfortable and a little on the warm side. took me awhile to get my legs going and was just starting to push it when it's closing time, wish there was night skiing cause i could have gone a few more runs. forcast is no new snow and nice the next couple days. rode my 176vsr from 1 till 4... west carven
howdy all no new snow since monday and its getting buffed out smooth. the cooler temps are keeping the snow good even tho the sun has been out every day. the firm snow stays carveable all day long, its been really good. the big was busy with saturday crowds and a Whitefish Whiteout Ski Mountaineering Race. brought out the small board and was pooped by 3pm, but kept going till 5pm, beautiful sunset. forcast is a few more nice days then snow by mid week, i hope it snows cause we really need it and it will be good for WTF. rode my f2157sc from 9 till 5... west carven
howdy all awesome!, awesome!, awesome!,... chair 2 is so smooth and flat. as chair 1 opens and everyone goes to it, i had eds to myself. beautiful super high clouds that looked like fish scales and filtered the sun in the early morning. comfortable temps and when the sun comes out about 1:30pm snow gets a little soft, but the hardpack underneath keep things flat, only the very top surface gets pushed around. did a few toni matt middle of the day then back to chair 2. forcast is another sunny day then wenesday night a front moves in and hope we get some snow cause we had a week of no new snow and sunny days. could be a nice set-up for WTF... the groom was perfect today... rode my 165amt from 9 till 4... west carven
howdy all another great day like yesterday, super high overcast filtered the sun and kept things cooler. temps were very comfortable and wasn't warm. the snow stayed nice and firm all day, yesterday was a little warm in the afternoon and the snow softened up and today it was firmer, but still very carvable. took a while for my legs to warm up cause i pushed it hard yesterday. conditions got better as the day went on as the snow softened up a little. forcast thru next week is slightly warmer temps as a front moves in and ends the inversions and brings some snow... howdy dave hope all is well with you... rode my 176vsr from 9 till 4... west carven
howdy all could have gone up, but did not. sunday night had a tingle of a cold coming on, but felt good monday and tuesday and did two full days on the hill. got up wednesday and felt like crap, called in sick and stayed home all day. sore throat and now some coughing so gotta work tomorrow, but i'll be up on saturday. just so you know and i'll try to keep away. today dumped three inches then got sunny in the afternoon. i took the whole week off so hope i feel better. forcast looks to be a pow fest the first few days and hope we get some good carving by the end of next week. see you soon... west carven
howdy all maybe five inches of creamy fresh pow on top and a few inches of very wet pow down low. good vis in the morning then lite fog moves in and out and up and down. first run from chair 1 to the face to chair 5 was sweet untracked smooth butter. feeling a little better and glad i pushed myself to go up today. there was a junior race on eds run and i think it continues tomorrow. so the first day of wtf was not the best carving day, but looking at the radar, tomorrow looks good cause i think it will not snow too much. see you guys on chair 2 first thing tomorrow. oh yeah, my 154 identity is really a 152 as i hand measured it. rode my 152 identity from 9 till 12...
