  1. I think so. It will be significantly lighter than the spring plate, and I presume the lightest Allflex available. Should be more forgiving too. However some people really like the traditional solid plate on a SL board for freecarving, e.g. WinterGold. Go find him on Instagram for video and photo evidence. I tried my soft solid plate on my SL board and it's not my cup of tea, but I am using Bombers. Maybe that's a bad combination, or maybe it's just my style. This combination resulted in a tiny sweet spot for me to get carves to happen. When they did it was great, but if I did not nail the sweet spot exactly the board would oscillate.
  2. Just by looking at it you can tell it's softer both lengthwise and in torsion, all else being equal. The idea is that it could be an alternative to the much heavier spring plate.
  3. Guess I’ll have to test this next season... Allflex Super H...
  4. No, it’s sealed in the pre-encabulation chamber.
  5. Picked up the new ride from the guy who made it! Custom BX 168, 27cm waist, 8-10-9 VSR. Full metal, carbon, p-tex top.
  6. My favorite piece of carving advice applies - look where you actually want the carve to end, not downhill. Not even diagonally downhill. This does wonders for carving technique, and it's also safer.
  7. I agree both unaware and skier was slightly uphill, but the snowboarder bears an equal amount of blame if not more for not looking where they were actually going until it was too late.
  8. 1. Lubricating Allflex screws is absolutely essential, or they will strip. 2. I think the shape of the background of the "AIR" on old Burton Airs is supposed to resemble a stretched/squashed outline of the state of Vermont. I never saw it until just recently, LOL. Yes?
  9. Impossible to know for sure without asking Kessler directly. It could very well be 12-18m, or 13-17m, but even then you don't know exactly how it's going to turn because the longest section could be in the tail or at the waist or under one foot, etc. Suffice to say it will make turns of a similar size as a 15.6m single radius sidecut, but with better versatility. I don't think they would tell you it was an average of 15.6m if the range was 10-15.6.
  10. I agree, Winterstick has made a quantum leap with their construction. I demo'd their 162 Alpine earlier this season. Frankly I expected it to suck, being their first foray into full metal construction, which is much more difficult than traditional layups. I was blown away by how smooth and familiar the construction felt. All parameters of the board worked in harmony - the flex, the VSR sidecut, the hearty amount of camber, decamber, the balance of liveliness and dampness - everything worked together to create a versatile board with a large sweet spot. I have had other boards that seem to be in conflict with themselves, and as such have a smaller sweet spot. There is some fancy mathematics that went into the shape and blending of the sidecut curves that I probably shouldn't detail. I shouldn't be surprised, Rob Lu @soccerdoge is a legit engineer with a history of hardbooting. I loaned him my UPZs and K168 last year and he took right off. I actually thought finally, Bruce can retire, which he's been threatening to do for years, lol. Not that I want him to!! I also thought, this is an alpine snowboard I would be happy to own. And I will, just a different size.
  11. Notches were introduced in 2006 to indicate stiffness. 3 notches were stiffest, 1 was softest. Corey's board is a 2004 demo. They made a big splash at the ECES that year. I agree they seemed better than the production boards that arrived for the 2005 season. The 2006 boards regained the magic.
  12. Glad to hear you are back on snow, Ladia! I've merged your old account with this one, so all your history is now under this account, and your login for this account should keep working. Let me know if you have any trouble.
  13. Glad to hear about the conditions @ktv, I was worried for you! I had meetings, work, and chores to do all day. I should be able to sneak out for a couple hours tomorrow morning, let's ride! Comp Hill should be groomed tonight along with most trails you want to carve. I love my Beckman footbeds. I still remember when I got my first pair in 1998, feeling so planted on and connected with my board. I wouldn't ride without them!

  15. Great to see some veterans in the finals!! Karl/Promegger was classic. Happy for them. Amazing riding. Nadyrshina has a bright future. I felt the red GS course cost Galmarini his day. Unlucky rail for him in SL, before that he was looking clean. USA's Cody Winters took 15th in SL!! Went for broke against reigning 2019 champion Dmitry Loginov. https://www.facebook.com/1070947468/videos/10221078704091853/ Best boots I've had.
  16. Don't take this the wrong way but I think not getting hit and crowd management in general are learned skills that must be practiced. I've never been seriously hit, and I can't remember my last near miss. I am deliberately very careful to time when I start downhill with the ebb and flow of the crowd. A certain fellow I ride with sometimes is not so great at this and he gets cut off or nearly hit a lot, while we are riding together.
  17. With no boot out, good snow, and low slope angle, anything is possible.
  18. PSL, Tuesday 8:45am EST, Olympic Channel
  19. Olympic Channel, 7:55am EST today!! https://www.olympicchannel.com/en/events/detail/2021-fis-snowboard-alpine-world-championships-rogla/
  20. The illustrious original Madd 158 (really more like 155) was simply too short and narrow for me (5'11", 210 atm, 28 mondo). I love my F2 Proto 163. It's great for early season ice, and crowded or narrow trails. Honestly I would disregard anything shorter than that.
  21. Corrected my post above, I was thinking of a different event. 2nd yesterday and 3rd today! Indeed it’s a reduced field with no Canadians.
  22. Sorry I missed this. I have two athletes there, Baran and Sasha. Sasha finished 2nd in SL today!
