  1. I think we need a mountain biking thread. It doesn’t fit in the summer carving but it’s the only thing keeping me sane (and that’sa stretch in normal times) Post your mtb stuff! Maybe we can petition @Jack M for a forum Below: Soapstone prairie in NoCo on the WY border. Nobody around four miles. One of my fav places to unplug.
  2. Colorado: Pretty much all the northern resorts Vermont: Killi/Pico, Okemo NY: Windham, Hunter, Iceface NJ: Managed to claw my way through Mt. Creek once! Minnesota: can’t remember the name. Ya. Israel: Mt. Hermon. This was the only place I got to do so right after patrol duty
  3. Wow!!! I’m curious what’s your take on the mind expander?
  4. Ikon Pass Announces New Option for Pass Holders to Defer 20/21 Ikon Pass to Winter 21/22: https://snowbrains.com/ikon-pass-announces-new-option-for-pass-holders-to-defer-20-21-ikon-pass-to-winter-21-22/?fbclid=IwAR0_E8p_6pHQI9nCbfpCxns_2Tg9maf-z9MjiPLvlOaesI5GtgHAdHOo4yc
  5. What are you a teenager? I've actually been to war and have not heard so much whining! Do you realize that people are DYING because of this? As of today it has killed more than 35,000 people. In one month! That's as many deaths as the ENTIRE 2018-2019 flu season. It's not forever. We'll stay distant for a couple of months and then less so until there's a vaccine. In the meantime Belgian up and ride it out! I apologize, I know I'm venting here. If you have to be out in order to make a living, have an essential job, or simply because you need groceries then do it. Social distancing (a stupid name - it should be physical distancing) is an absolute necessity. It does actually save lives. It could save your own! Do your part.
  6. I dunno, This thing will damage your lungs, heart, and kidneys even if it doesn't kill you. You're assuming that having a large percent of the population infected is a given. That's not true. I would actually like people to distance since it does actually save lives. All you're being asked to do is stay at home. You can make the effort.
  7. Somebody told me that yellow boots make you go faster, so....
  8. I got a lot of use from my pass before this shenanigan. I put my money down for next season. Ikon said that they'll refund the extra $50 for those who have already purchased their pass so I'm pretty sure I can get more back if they get better deals. Also, since I only use my pass for CO and I'm a driving distance away I'm fairly sure I'll get use out of it. In short, I'm optimistic about next season I'll probably get the Loveland pass as well if I'm still eligible to get it for $100. If not, I'll probably buy a 4-pack.
  9. This is from the 1918 flu pandemic. Notice that the first wave was minuscule in comparison to what followed the next fall. I am not at all sure that we have a significant majority of the population exposed (and immune too, who knows). Even if we do manage to get back to some semblance of normal life by October there are still significant hurdles ("John" scenario from the podcast) that can inhibit next season. That podcast is not about making predictions. It's about taking a sober look of what next season might look like and what the hurdles might be.
  10. Podcast from a ski industry person. Very sobering. What's your take? https://wintrymix.podbean.com/e/aks-odds-of-skiing-early-april-edition/?fbclid=IwAR2mBnhaCVjarVowgHdYj3SmJcZVKtWenD---kMwLP5CUen2HWrrHnE2YvU
  11. Funny, they were using their hands.... Now that I think about it it's genius! That way they can't complain!
  12. Nope. I use a kid for that. Teens are surprisingly gullible to the right kind of suggestions.
  13. A butter knife in your cordless drill fixes that problem right quick! (we're a family of peanut butter snobs, I had to adapt!)
  14. Last run in Winter Park this season.... Top of Parsons along Parry Peak. Some of the best snow I have seen this season, perfect glades, bluebird sky. I have been struggling a lot this year but this run everything clicked. It was wonderful.
  15. Best: my family Worst: my family

  17. Do you believe the numbers reported by the US government? Any number in a vacuum is just a number. The reporting that I have seen including scientific (peer-reviewed) papers seem to hold water. They have had longer to deal with this so it's not surprising to me that they are closer to stopping it.
  18. At least some good news... Yes, the efforts do seem to make a difference. We have not seen the worst yet but most states trajectories seem to be diverging from the diagonal (diagonal = exponential growth). So whatever we are doing is working! Worldwide you can see that China seems to have very little new cases, Europe is doing better and although it's hard to see, even the US is doing better. Nobody can see the end just yet and there will be a danger of resurgence for quite some time but at least it looks like somethings are starting to change!
  19. UV and plastics do no mix... Don't know what it would do to your wax (probably not much) and if your base is predominantly black it probably doesn't matter as much since they use charcoal to create the black color (and that gives some resistance), but still, why? UV causes ageing, embrittlement, cracking, and yellowing in most plastics including epoxy and urethanes (boots) and especially PEs (base). We usually test plastics by sticking them on the roof and letting the sun bake them. Now you probably won't see any degradation after a couple of hours but it's just not a great idea. Build a hot box! More consistent and no UV.
