  1. My concern isn't so much on hill contact it's getting to the entrance of the resort. Being screened and ok'd by the bouncers and having to linger where large groups have mingled and left their moist air. The lineup to get to the gondola at Sunshine Village was snaking through 7 lines of parked cars in the #1 parking lot .Time in line was between 1-1 1/2 hrs. on the weekend. You have to ride the gondola to get to the resort. I'm thinking mandating true half cost half day lift tickets could go a long way to reduce these kind of lineups. Seems to me the choice will be to cherry pick the snow conditions or lineup contact conditions.
  2. Not getting better any time soon. People just seem to be getting bitchy about everything. Local bump will require advance booking but opening is at least a few weeks away. Ski shops are reporting huge demand but stock is limited not looking good for uncrowded slopes looking like on some days I will have to two plank it.
  3. In my opinion I think any mask that restricts your breathing is doing a better job than one that is not. A positive respirator with a bottle on my back won't work well with a Skwal. Full face helmet might be the way to go. An N95 with a valve in it is just spewing vapour your way if that's what your friends are wearing keep away from those guys.
  4. Stubborn and stupid is one way to live but to think of the message young people are getting about the way society works (isn't ) today is down right sad. Our numbers are over 1400 today and only going up. Mask are in full use in public but it seems the problems are coming from gatherings of any nature, religious celebrations, birthdays, etc. Had a few days of freezing weather and local bump started snowmaking. FB showing huge numbers of people are interest in season starting Looks like the making of a soon to be giant fuster cluck. As Corey mentioned above looks like things are getting shut down till Dec 18th in Manitoba. Gov't announcement coming tomorrow and I'm expecting the same here. Never really used face coverings in cold weather but I'm going to have to come up with something to meet the new requirements. Can anyone suggest what works for them that doesn't end up looking like a huge snotsicle.
  5. Well were in it now power has been out for 25 hrs not expected back on for another 48 the milk is getting warm good distraction from covid. 100 km winds have left a mess.
  6. What difference a week makes !!! Out of control and no clear plan. It's getting serious now. Spent the last week fixing and painting my trail groomers . Fired up the skidozer and removed and resealed the transmission. Ready for a season of stay at home and play. Next project new pistons and cylinders for the Skidoo Alpine . Hard to believe anti maskers and sneaky behavior has screwed this up so quickly ! Ontario and most provinces are reporting increasing numbers of covid day after day no sign of flattened curve ??????
  7. Everyone keeps trying but the minute you put a plate on it especially in adverse conditions the plate proves the board just isn't up to the task'. Nothing wrong with having an extra tool in the tool box !
  8. Ultimate plate setup, rear half fixed, centre hinged and swivels, front half slides i made two. Mr. Sutherland has one for his collection the other I ride on occasion to remind myself how awesome my wife is to have allowed me to spend weeks developing something no one understands.
  9. We had snow 5 days ago and now 19 degrees. Every motorcycle in the province is out on the road. Nice weather till Tuesday so little work is being done
  10. 1966 Honda 55 have to push it to start starter drive been bad for last 30 years.
  11. Jack that's and "old man" racing board your too young to race that. The plate inserts make it interesting to an ice coaster though !
  12. Looking for splitboard hardware. Have plates need pucks and tip and tail clips.
  13. Cases are around 1000 per day up from 800 death were 16 yesterday for Ontario. Hospitals in Toronto are running at close to 100 % beds full. Not a run on emergency for ventilators or anything like the start but hospital staff are frustrated that people are taxing the resources when they shouldn't need to. Everything is playing out as experts predicted. It's entirely up to us to behave responsibly we know what has to be done and it's pretty basic. Looks like some local bumps are preparing to use reservation for hill access. Don't know if you will have access to Northern Ontario ski hills looks like border is closed till months end at least.
  14. Too many variables including the rider and style but a larger SCR on a 185 board would be faster than a 185 with a small SCR on a GS course. Consider the rooster tail of snow thrown up by twin tip skis. The same thing happens with skis or boards with a small SCR but the snow is pushed off to the side. Not as much with large SCR boards. The best approach is to match a board to the course layout and be the best rider in the race !
  15. Nice look if esthetics is your thing i prefer function over visuals and hang mine upside down to maintain camber . Subtle pressure on the edges over a sustained period might have bad effect on epoxy bond of edges, ptex and core. Ideas for regurgitation .
  16. Epic snow in a pandemic year. Just what one would not plan for. Anyone attending MCC will have the time of their life ! Book it and make it happen!
  17. Alberta is trying something different. If you want to travel to Alberta via Calgary airport and commit to a 14 day stay and you agree to be Covid tested on arrival and then retested a few days later now may be your best chance. This was announced yesterday but today numbers of cases are still increasing. Check out the web cams for Lake Louise and Sunshine Village looking pretty sweet !
  18. Covid doesn't make me afraid for my health' It makes me afraid for what it exposes about sociey.
  19. SunSurfer please resist posting bad news just before bed time it's not helping with my positive vibe dream cycle. Since its morning for you i'll get your day started with this tidbit .Today Ontario has reported over 800 new cases as well as Quebec with approx .860. Keep in mind this is only one week after our Thanksgiving long weekend so i'm preparing for more bad news soon. People keep referencing the fact they feel there is mixed messaging coming from Gov't but i think they are simply ignoring the fact their interperetation of the message is incorrect. Pipette and other lab supplies are low and non available from typical US suppliers looks like Chinas economy is about to rapidly spike.
  20. Non peer reviewed results indicate type "o" blood has lesser chance of contacting covid and less severe symptoms if contracted. Could be good news for some !
  21. Latest nugget from our Prime Mi?nister today "The Canada US border will not open until the US has Covid under control ". Any takers on a time frame ?
  22. Engine oil grades overlap with different temperatures ranges up or down a grade can often still fit the situation depending on how closely you fit in the range. Synthetic oil does a better job of preventing deposit of sludge from building up Pulled my 2.5 @ 230000 due to head gasket breakdown ( dirty deposits in overflow bottle is the first indicator). Engine internals looked like new due to use of synthetic oil. Oil pan and splash shield were shinny metal unlike older engines i have rebuilt. Your oil consumption is due to the oil rings beginning to seize on the bottom of the piston Due to the horizontal design. will go for many miles more if you keep oil topped up and use thicker grade of oil. Piston slap in subarus only scare non subaru people and as you state only when cold is nothing to worry about. I bought a used subaru that had a hole up through the block under the intake and running on three cylinders no antifreeze in it and oil spalshing out of the hole. it still started and drover onto the trailer and off again into the shop. I usually run 10-30 oil for 10000k and change filter at 5000 then top up oil. Havent blown one up yet ! Not a fan of longer life filters too many stories of plugged ones leading to gasket failure.
