  1. These are the current, in rotation boards. L to R: 177 AM 20 waist 16m scr glass 173 VSR 21 waist ?m scr metal 172 AM 21.5 waist 10.5m scr metal 165 AM 21.5 waist 10.5m scr metal The last one is my GF's board, I am trying to bring her over to the dark side.
  2. lightweight. I was on the mountain at -25 the other day......
  3. Good luck flying to YVR, my GF is flying to New Zealand for Feb and couldn't get a connecting flight in or out for weeks either side of the five ring festival.
  4. I am trying a little inward canting on my 2s and 3s this year, it seems (so far) to help with a lower leg problem I was having last year. The VSR is sweet, I spent the last three days on mine. It turns so easily, getting on my Metal Am from last year is work in comparison.
  5. I have been the last three days, the snow is squeaky and the lifts are lonely. They are making tons of snow under the silver chair and most of the top is open. It warmed up to -16 today and was quite bearable. Did you get your custom yet? I have been riding my new VSR and last year's metal AM, both are working well. Make sure you have cold wax on your board as I don't have it on mine and they are not liking the cold and the concrete-like groom.
  6. Ten feet of the lift I was on my a$$, the rest of the day was as good as I get at this stage. It was only a 4.5 hour day today, mabe tomorrow will be better.
  7. It looks like my first day on the snow will be sunday, (this season, it sucks I know. The snow just isn't sticking here at the center of the universe) but I could probably be up for KH. I'll keep you posted here on BOL as the week passes. Sound good?
  8. I think that number is how many times he has to hit Chuck Norris with the board to knock Chuck out. But don't tell Bruce that I told you.
  9. Not sure about T.O.ilet, but we got just enough here in London to say it snowed. It's gone now, but not forgotten.
  10. Somebody, anybody, please make the inevitable join-the-dots comment so I don't have to. Thank you, you may now return to regular spamming.
  11. They race these things? Great, another way to hurt myself.....
  12. Something that I don't think some people take into account is that you aren't just paying for the raw materials and labour when you buy something. Look at software, it comes on a cd/dvd and what does that cost? $2? When you look at software like Photoshop, how many thousands of hours go into research and development, hence the $900 pricetag (or whatever it costs, not exactly important). The amount of time and energy that goes into building boards and then changing them and tweaking them to be perfect is crazy. I have had a glimpse as to what is involved and it's certainly eye-opening. I think that because most softboot boards slide all over and get used poorly, it's less important when it comes to the quality of them, hence lower quality which translates to lower cost. You can't do that with alpine boards. There is a level of quality that is dictated by the sport that can't allow for a made-offshore-budget model that costs less than a starbuck's coffee. Yes this is all generalization, but it's an idea I'm trying to convey, not technical specifications.
  13. The grass is green in London. Well I'm packing up my game and I'm a head out west, Where real women come equipped with scripts and fake breasts....
  14. I want the kind of fun you are having, regardless of cost, if you are buying you groceries at a stove. Whee!
  15. last year I did 14 days at the local hill (3 hours each way) and six at SES. This year I am shooting for every day in december In the Rockies (layoffs don't always suck) and 10-12 at the local speed bump to bring myself back to reality.
  16. I have tried to wear other packs under my coat and it always seems that they are the least cumbersome when I wear them a bit lower on my back, they don't cause my jacket to bind across the shoulders that way.
  17. If they won't ship it outside Canada they note it quite obviously on the item page ( see here, second line under price:http://www.mec.ca/Products/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524442627905&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302882912&bmUID=1259365795512) Note that it does NOT include a bladder system, it's available but not included. It is one of the smallest ones I have seen, comparable to the smallest Camelback that I have seen which was also pretty much a glorified pair of shoulder straps with a bladder. I don't think you would have much trouble with it under your jacket as long as you wear it a little low on your back.
  18. I won't be there this weekend, but I am planning to be there from next weekend until the end of the month. I will have three coilers with me if anyone is interested in trying them. Two are metal, one is glass but they all have very little time on them. My newest one is waiting for a topsheet (hurry up, Fedex) and it will have it's cherry popped at Nakiska. I'll post again when I am in the provence in case anyone wants to catch a ride or something. anyone ridden at Kicking horse yet? Is it any good? Also, three cheers for too much snow at Louise to race!
  19. I bike with an mec mountain fountain, it has an ok amount of space for tubes, topeak hummer, pump and some bars. It is fairly compact (nice and narrow), has an exterior web pocket that is fairly big for quick access stuff. I haven't used it when boarding, I have another mec pack for that. It's a Jet Ranger (the mkII is available now) it holds my hydration pack, has a goggle specific pocket, is designed with backcountry gear in mind ie: shovel and probe and has the ability to carry your board or skis. I use a 3l bladder for both and have never had any problems with either as they are very well built. You can also get an insulated sleeve for your drinking tube from mec, it comes with a heating pad (disposeable like the hot shots brand) and that works well. mec.ca is the site.
  20. I think Michelle is single so she doesn't have to share her chocolate. I also think she has dogs because they are not allowed to eat chocolate so more for her. But it's just a guess.
  21. I was in down-state NY and saw what must be the top secret hush-hush Team 32 K2 PBR skwal. I didn't know you guys had such pull.....
  22. Does anyone have any experience, good or bad, with boot fitters in Calgary? I might be in town soon and would like to address a few issues I have with my boots.
  23. I had an 07 gti mkv with the 2.0 turbo and when driven sedately it returned mpg numbers in the 40 is range. I had the two door but the back seat is one that I always got compliments on as the car has lots of passenger room. I had been fairly intent on a civic, but found it far more constrictive. There is a new mkVI coming soon so you may be able to find a good deal on a mk5 if there are any around. There is also a diesel and a wagon on the way, you might want to check those out.
  24. I grew up in Alberta and skied from about 77 to 90. I quit when someone else stopped buying my equipment and decided to go roadrace motorcycles instead. I moved to Ontario in 94 and spent a winter working at a local hill ( heavy emphasis on hill) and since it was all mostly free I skied, softbooted and carved. It was odd that they had a rental carving setup, but what the hell, I figured I would give it a try. I didn't like the softies as much as the other two, landed on my head too many times. I never managed to buy equipment and was again tied up in Roadracing. You want a quick way to make your money evaporate? Roadrace. I finally started a new career in 2003 and when I finished my apprenticeship in 2006 I bought some alpine equipment and went to Switzerlant to learn. Oh, the deep end? I can jump in there, no problem.... I have made a few more trips to Europe and Aspen, I plan to head west this year. My GF will be taking an outdoor something or other course and will have to do a bunch of outdoor things like rock climb, kayak, MTB and yes, become a two planker wanker. I will probably get skis then and join her, I am sure I will enjoy it again and since I have a few seasons on the alpine boards I expect I won't be too rusty.
