  1. I also know that if you have something in writing it will be easier to evict them, should it come to that. I would say that if they charged you for a stay at their "resort" it is completely justifiable to charge them for a place that you have. If they don't like the deal, they don't have to move in. They can stay in the trailer until they are ready to play by your rules or find another option. How bad are your winters? If her parents won't help them out, I would take that as a sign.....
  2. I would say that like anyting else that I do and enjoy, I like sharing the experience with others. The pros of having more people is that it allows a bigger marketplace so retailers don't have as much of a burden carying the gear, it allows a wider range of equipment and also allows more money to go in to development of new gear. The cons are that it loses it's niche status, something I think many posters enjoy. It would also cause a bunch of inferior equipment to flood the market and I think this is a sport that would especially suffer if that were the case. Look at a current thread about older binding setup where people have strongly suggested a poster loose his old, prone to failure bindings. While these are just a few examples of each side, I would like to get as many of my friends to try it as I can. I like skiing but don't do it now as my focus is carving. That doesn't mean I wouldn't encourage people to try it, but I would suggest they try hardboots as I have equipment they could use. I don't think alpine is doing that well, I am sure all the retailers would love to see it doing better. I think that because it is a technique heavy discipline, most people shy away from it to start as softboot boards are a lot more forgiving of beginners. I know I got in to it for the speed and the fact that I don't have any desire to wear my pants low and land on my head all the time. I mean ride the parks and pipes. Yeah, that's it.
  3. JP1, I am quite happy with the sportube 3, it is versatile and puts up with the crap that flying puts your luggage through. It will hold any board I have ever seen and will hold a few at the same time. I looked at the 2 when I was looking to buy and decided that it was too smal for what I needed. My GF is still in softies and it fits both our gear no problem. I would suggest that you pack your board in a bag of some sorts before putting it in the tube ( I made some fleece lined nylon bags that I also store them in) so they don't get dinged up. The first time I went to Switzerland I put my board w/bindings, boots and some outer wear to fill the space and was still under the magic 50lbs. The 3 has wheels which is a big help in that you don't have to carry it. You can pull it along and carry your other stuff. They have an accessory handle for it but the clip part is lightweight and one of mine broke so I replaced it with a small keychain carabiner. It will also collapse into itself so it won't take up too much room when it is in standby mode. Message me if you want a link to the best price I found, you are on the same side of the 49th as the site so it will be in real time dollars for you.
  4. If you want the shot, just tell them you are a hockey player.....
  5. I won't contest the equipment is the best, but is the sport? I hope some good Olympic exposure will bring some new people in to the fold, but was it ever more popular? I am asking this as I never used to pay attention to it enough to know a difference between the late 80's lets say, and now.
  6. Bordy, You seem to think I am making assumptions when in fact I am simply reiterating what you have posted. I'll do it again in simpler form: 1. You have money in stock that doesn't sell, have done this again and again and chastize people because they don't buy your stock. 2.You think everyone needs to ride the newest, greatest equipment regardless of cost. 3.Everyone shold be extolling the virtue of Bordy because if it weren't for him none of the bords in this industry would exist. I posed eight questions that you have yet to answer. 1. What about existing customers? You stated "about the fact that makeing a buckle kit to retro fit old boots to have buckles does nothing but take bizness right away from the new models, new models that we have spent money on to stock and try to push to new customers... " sounds like you are focused on new customers, not existing ones that are far more likely to upgrade their equipment to match their skill. That's the market I would be trying to impress with the new equipment. That last sentence is my opinion, just to be clear. 2."So let me get this straight, if someone has equipment that is worn or doesn't perform as it should or could, it is in their best interest to spend more than they need/want/can just to support a retailer who has decided to invest money in stock they know will sit on thier shelves, yet continue to stock every year. I also understand from your posts that people are not supporting the industry if they do it in small ammounts, say $50 at a time, but only if they spend $500 at a time." I know I forgot question marks, but there are two questions there: Should people spend money just because a retailer has stock, even if the retailer has stock that no one can afford, want or need? Are people supporting the industry if they only spend a small ammount as they need to or is it only support of the industry if they spend $500 or more at a time? I would really like an answer to this one as I know I can get hardware cheaper at home than I can from Bomber, if I'm not supporting the industry when I buy it from them then why should I? That's actually a statement even though it has a question mark. You don't have to answer it. 3."who or what sets the lifespan of gear?" That is an obvious one, what is the answer to that, mr. one with all the answers? 4&5."Does it have a best before date? A certain number of runs until it is no longer up to Bordy approval?" These are facetious questions, don't bother answering them as it would probably make you look foolish. 6."How many people that you know are willing to drop $1500-$2000 just to try something?" By this I mean actually spend the money, not try out free stuff or demos. 7&8."Does this mean we are friends now? Or no, since I didn't buy from you?" Don't bother answering these ones, I think I already know the answer. It seems to me (this is the part that is an assumption) that you do a lot of coaching and associated activities with carving on a very high level, ie Olympic competitors. It also seems to me that you don't have a very realistic grasp on who supports those high level endeavours.(this is the part that is opinion) If you look at any high end race or competitive sport, the high end is supported by the masses. Ferrari eats the bill for it's F1 team as it sees it as a development platform for what it sells to the masses. They don't tell potential Ferrari owners to scrap the old junk and buy only new cars so they can fund the F1 program, instead they promote the community of Ferrari owners by providing accessability to parts for older models as well as the new cars. You don't seem to recognize that there a a number of people that come to this board looking to start hardbooting. I did, because there is a bunch of people who are willing to share their info with new riders without feeling the need to chastize them for their choice of equipment. I appreciate that you are entitled to your opinions, as we all are, but if your opinion has no backing to it other than "Right now I own every boot made and still wish I had one I didn't have to tweak to work.... " you aren't contributing anything other than hot air. If you make posts like this to feed you ego and get upset when you are still hungry, change your method. If you could provide actual insight as to pros and cons, you would probably get much better reception. You stated that you fielded calls from the fastest racers in the country, blah, blah, blah, who probably get their gear for free or next to nothing. How many calls did you field from people who actually had to consider where they were going to spend their money before they made a decision? That's another question that could be answered, just so you know. It seems you complain about how people on this board interpret you (eliteist, etc) but that's because they are going by the only information you are giving them, your posts. I challenge you to answer my questions, without profanity and give them some thought before you post some "I have been doing this forever and no on else has any idea" kind of answer. It would benefit us all a lot more. I think you just need a hug, but I'm not doing it...
  7. I agree with tex123 about the coilers, great boards but not for the masses. It would be nice to see a NA boardbuilder supported, Donek or Prior, I think Donek has a good line for entry level riders (pilot) and I believe he has the ability to support the production demand.
  8. What about existing customers? Don't they count for something? So let me get this straight, if someone has equipment that is worn or doesn't perform as it should or could, it is in their best interest to spend more than they need/want/can just to support a retailer who has decided to invest money in stock they know will sit on thier shelves, yet continue to stock every year. I also understand from your posts that people are not supporting the industry if they do it in small ammounts, say $50 at a time, but only if they spend $500 at a time. It sounds to me like you haved decided to devote your time and money to an industry that has limited growth potential and you seem to think you can dictate when and how people will spend their money. THIS is short sighted. Just so we are clear here, who or what sets the lifespan of gear? Does it have a best before date? A certain number of runs until it is no longer up to Bordy approval? I would be interested to know the number of people who got in to carving on used equipment, I know I did. How many people that you know are willing to drop $1500-$2000 just to try something? I can only speak for my household, but I don't need the latest, greatest. I buy what I can afford and if it simply means I buy a new set of liners instead of new boots, so be it. I didn't buy a new set of bindings for my GF this year because I bought her a board and boots. We have bindings she can use so she gets on the slopes and figures out is she likes it. I didn't work for seven months this year, yet I still managed to prioritize my spending so she could get on plates. I think I do a pretty good job of supporting a board builder, a binding company/ boot importer and a few hills. If they didn't find it profitable, I am sure they would move on to something that was, if money was their focus. If you think the community should support the companies so you can continue to get free stuff, guess again. If you want an attaboy for doing what you have listed, there you go. If it was truly important for you that the sport grow, one (me specifically, again that's all I can speak for) might think that you would encourage everyone possible to get out on whatever gear they can. New, old, hot pink from the 8o's, whatever. I bought my GF a board and boots to try this year. Both new. Does this mean we are friends now? Or no, since I didn't buy from you?
  9. I have a couple of them, if you have any other questions you can message me.
  10. Hey Bordy, weren't you the one saying you make next to nothing but you get all the latest, greatest gear free? Must be nice. I don't think anyone should put any value in your comments when they are as short sighted as this one. Also, the OP was asking for a kit TO BUY FROM BOMBER. How is that not supporting the industry? Do you do a lot of posting that would be considered the online version of Drunk Dialling? You must.....
  11. damn, now where am I going to get my art nouveau furniture?
  12. Me thinks your sarcasm detector is in the "off" position.
  13. You sound like an elitist jerk that I have never met.
  14. I have some rooadracign armour made by T-Pro, it is dual density foam laminated with a layer of kevlar. I walk today as a result of it's protection and if you can find any (it is/was a british company) it is awesome stuff. I'll tr and post some pictures next time I am home. I think the current stuff is marketed as Knox armour, I have never worn that brand but it looks like they are licencing the technology.
  15. Had some chilli today and did a lot of walking, saw a guy playing drums on a bunch of paint pails and a shopping cart, saw some high security convoy race in to the White House, got asked to step back over the chain by the secret service, learned that Night at the Museum took artistic license a little to seriously, Saw the Hope diamond ( it didn't seem THAT big), saw C3PO and Julia's kitchen, was the victim of racial discrimination (no big deal, didn't get an ugly t-shirt) was impressed by the subway and saw a bunch of men wearing red dresses. This is a busy place, I hope tomorrow is the same!
  16. We plan on doing some of our time at the museums, and we want to hit the bureau of printing and engraving but it will only be open monday. pm me if you would like to get in touch down there.
  17. I am headed down for the long weekend, this will help me also. We are planning on going to the air and space (hopefully both locations) and the Spy museum for sure. Have you found any cool places you plan on visiting? In the T. I can't tell you how much I enjoy Grappa on college. awesome food, the owner is always there making sure everything is perfect and the prices are not what you should expect for such good food. Anyway, enjoy your trip!
  18. you guys are doing it all wrong, you buy her a board too and she gets too involved with what to put on the topsheet to pay any attention to what you are buying. Trust me, it works. I am on my third new board in three seasons...
  19. I have this board but mine is a 16m sc. It is not an ice coast, er east coast board. Way too fast, you need no traffic and it is hard work on ice. It does exactly what it was made for, but that is no where near the east coast.
  20. Where I work had 130 or so windmills installed over the last year and a half. They are not pretty at all and there are a number of locals who are very unhappy with them. The one county to the north of Bruce county has barred them. I am back to work tomorrow, I'll take some pictures this week and post them and everyone can judge for themselves.
  21. http://www.prolineracks.com/sportube-series3-ski-travel-cases.html I bought two, freight was about $35 us each to T.O.ilet.
  22. I'm sure they would have the straight roads you need in Montana. Besides, don't they still have the speed suggestions as opposed to limits on the interstates?
