CaRtharsis
My new whip! Compliments of the Mad Scientist. Side cut is 13/14. Now if only we had some snow to ride it on.
Neil Gendzwill
Love the aircraft graphic! I tried to be imaginative and come up with a custom but being dangerously low on talent I ran out of time. I'm OK with my stock snakeskin top, it's pretty badass. Corey
CaRtharsis - is that an EC model? Looks like a HUGE sidecut radius! I should have done this picture on the last page: Coilers: Angrry 160 (2013), VSR 167 (2010), and NSR 180 (2011). Not shown: Donek Proteus 180. My choices this season. Life is good! :D
xy9ine
how's the vsr? contemplating a mid radius freecarve playboard.
Corey
how's the vsr? contemplating a mid radius freecarve playboard. I absolutely love it! The black VSR was a demo at SES in 2010, it was the funnest board I'd ever ridden. This one has the XTight 10.5m average radius; it works on ice, has a wicked pop out of turns, floats surprisingly well in knee-deep powder, etc. If I ever break/damage it, I'll order an exact replacement the next day. The NSR is the choice if the snow is good and there are steep runs, otherwise the VSR is the first one out of the bag. I really didn't like the look of the square/blunt nose at first, but it works and gets a lot of comments in the lift line. It gets a little twitchy at higher speeds, but I'm constantly surprised at both how tight AND how big of a turn it can make. I've loaned it it to two other people at SES, both have bought copies - after I pried this one out of their hands. LOL! *Ace*
Spy shots of a new lovely lady, semi-scrambled playboy cablevision version... Shes a little rough around the edges right now, 2nd board out of the press! Featuring one piece urethane rubber sidewalls. A prototype, and not ready for full glory shots or public viewing, not going to be at SES... Cherry popped. Peti
@Simon_K: Very interesting! Do you mind to give some detailed info about specs, used materials of the board and the plate? What kind of top sheet is that? Or is everything top secret? ;)
Simon_K
Plate: I make something like a flexible hinge from fiberglass and I add a limiting leaf spring, so that the snowboard doesn't bend too much. The plate itself is carbonfiber. Snowboard: The core is poplar and beech, top and bottom layers are fiberglass, carbon fiber and VDS. The top sheet is basicaly 200g carbonfiber cloth with the resin molded against a textured window film, to imprint the texture to the top sheet. It is 162cm long, 20cm waist and 9.5m radius slalom snowboard. Edited February 11, 2013 by Simon_K
lowrider
Not easy to get a good finish with wraped cap construction as you have done. Nice job! So what's the slide component of your plate hardware ?
maineboarder88
This is my first alpine board since my Burton M6 back around 1990. With "Die Schnee Planke", I just had my first hardboot session in over 20 years. It was a humbling experience for sure. Even though I only fell twice, I lost my balance many more times than that. I was finally able to link a few carves by the end of the day. I had no problems getting the edge locked in on my heelside, but kept washing out toe-side!?! It's technique, I'm certain. This Coiler is a high-quality piece of work. Thanks Bruce.
Hans
Nice grahpics mainboarder. Is it me, or just the picture. Your bindings hang over the sides. If it's true you have to use steeper angles. Just make sure the backbinding is within the sides of your boardwidth and make the front binding between the 3/5 degrees steeper as your backbinding. May be that's the reason you wash out in frontcarves because the binding/boot hits the ground/snow.

Thanks, I made the graphics myself...it's a tribute to my favorite place on the planet--the Oztal Valey in Austria (at Solden in the shadow of the Wildspitze). When my boots are mounted in the bindings, nothing's hanging over. Must just be the picture. I'm going to have to muster the self-discipline to stay off my sofites and keep practicing with my Coiler. Hans
Otztal is certainly nice, in summer even more. Which (lift) disks are you using on those Bomberstep-ins?

maineboarder88
Otztal is certainly nice, in summer even more. Which (lift) disks are you using on those Bomberstep-ins? I have 3 degrees in front and back--running both at the standard 90 setting (with just toe and heel lift). I tried running the back with some slight outward cant, but I couldn't transition easily to my toeside edge when I set it like that (I had to pull up on the back of the board and lift it onto the toeside edge). Try 6 degrees in the back and flat in the front, helped me a lot with powerful, controlable back and toeside carves on my JJ boards last week. I also added 6 degrees in the back bindings on my Virus boards, liked it a lot where I normally rode flat. My backside didn't chatter anymore. and my frontside carves were more powerful. Well what helped me, couldn't work out for you, but I tried it and it worked (after some tips of Jasey-Jay).
