Got names to go with this fine looking group of trench diggers?.....I recognize a few.....

isn't that something?

left to right:

  • tom l. (mr. t)
  • joe d. (joe d)
  • karl k. (scuff)
  • rufus
  • erik g. (thebionicman)
  • me
  • spencer
  • jessie
  • bob d.

today started out crappy. it was so foggy that i couldn't see the chair lift from the parking lot.

erik and i rode nervously first couple runs. seriously, this was completely effed up. the wind picked up and the fog rolled away. more carvers showed up. there was sun for about an hour or more. then the light went flat at 11 am.

snow was decent.

did something to my rear knee. i don't know what i did. my second to last run i felt pain under the knee cap. left early. advil.

funniest thing heard... this boarder asks erik if there was chairlift that went higher.

@jessie... you looked good today. after karl made adjusted your bindings you had a nice moment there on milkrun.

@ trent

Jessie says that Spencer was clipped in and sliding away, so she was merely keeping him in the photo. :)

It does look kinda funny though.

Hyland Hills snow was great tonight..

@ Bob - I guess the 'movement' has started..

We had over 40 kids show up for alpine practice tonight..

I am not joking.. it was blissful chaos.

I'm sure you have thought of it before, but Hyland needs a junior alpine rental/lease program. Boards would pay for themselves, and I would think that one of the manufacturers would have generous discounts for such a program. You need a survey to gauge kids and parents commitment to such a scheme. Present it to Three Rivers, with some quotes from B.V.. Heck, get a letter supporting the idea from J. J. Anderson as well.

Tuesday December 7th, Pearl Harbor Day.

Had a work trip to Sodak get cancelled so I took advantage of the sunny sky's. Met a new hardbooter, Leif. Told him to come out on Sunday, we might have another one! Bobd was out on the Palmers tearing it up.

The condition were firm and icy. Found a big chunk of ice on the first run, I am feeling that crash right now. All in all not to bad, hopefully they step up the grooming a little in the ice areas.

Rode the $12 ticket this morning. Really flat light but great snow! I skied for the first time in probably 8+ years while I let a friend ride my race board in the afternoon. I think my friend is hooked, and I got a nice compliment from an attractive skier lady that noticed that Im not bad on one or two planks :p

Morning

had to stay close to home.

at 7:30 am, the lifts were going. a few people already there. arrived at 8:10 am. crossroads, milkrun had gates set up.

<a href=" buck 12-12-10" title="buck 12-12-10 by snurfer64, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5242/5255213717_a45fe21010.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="buck 12-12-10" /></a>

(i don't often admit this but it was painfully cold when i took that photo. my fingers hurt. didn't come out again.)

took first run down the backside and it was so-so. took a run down crossroads after waiting patiently. the very top was hard ice. wind was blowing the snow away.

the racers closed off milkrun. i was riding the chair with someone that was part of the event. he had a walkie-talkie. i heard someone say on the walkie "here comes Joe Doctor". saw a skier with #38 jersey coming down. must've been brutal to race in the cold.

went to warners. it had been groomed late so the snow was soft. you could fit your arm in the trenches. rather than trying to lay out turns i worked on faster board transitions.

saw that crossroads was getting re-groomed. headed over there for a few runs. skiers left was hard snow, skiers right was soft and slow. i got used to skiers left so it wasn't too bad.

went into the chalet around 9:20 am. toes were extremely cold. went to the little carvers room and stuck my boots under the hand drier.

back out. met up with erik. did a couple runs. bob showed up in softboots. the cold was getting to me again. went home to do more shoveling.

Carpet? Drapes? What?

just another day at the office... fighting off the UFOs 70's style. dig the mod!

I had forgotten about that. I was starting to be more interested in girls, and music by 1970. It was a part of the Gerry Anderson series of scifi animations, and was the first to use real people (other than hand shots in the earlier puppet shows). I watched the very first Anderson series "Super Car" in the early 60s. Great find.

On topic again. I can see the attraction of big free ride boards now. The Burton Frontier 185 just ate up the mixed conditions today. First time I've had my heel side hip on the snow in soft boots.

Evening

decent but not quite like last night. nastar or something was going on. so i started out on warners. yeah... not so good. after two crappy runs i went back to crossroads and waited patiently. snow was decent but skiers left was rough near olympic. eventually the skiers disappeared.

cracks me up when i see pudgy people in speadsuits. its not worth it. :nono:

bruce was doing the nastar thing.

I went out for a couple of hours after lunch. Snow was great, light sucked. I keep finding my hip on my healside turns. I think I might have to invest in some type of protection.

hip guards are nice for keeping your ass dry too.

:boxing_smI've been out a hand full of times so far this year and the conditions have been great all except one on Buck. I'm racing again on NASTAR and Ski Challenge but I need to get out on the snowboard gates because I have to beat one of the guys that beat me at nationals the last three years.

I have the TD3 step in's on my Nidecker GS and I broke the binding plate, not sure how but it happened. I took a picture of it and sent it to Bomber to see if I could get a new one, I've only had it for about a season. I have the SideWinder's at home just waiting to go on my new Prior WCR Metal board that I haven't had out yet. I think I'll do the SideWinder in the front and the step in in the back, makes logical sense (I guess). I'm actually not sure if I want to break out the new board because I like my Nidecker sooooo much.

Plan on going over to Welch on Friday to pick up my $99 season pass :1luvu: and do some NASTAR. Normally a pretty good crowd out there and with 17,000 $99 season passes sold (that's what I've heard), it's bound to be a zoo :AR15firin:flamethro

Hope to get out to Buck on Sunday morning, I haven't been out there yet this year.

Be well

The Grinch

Morning

snow was good. wind was brutally cold. i am the village idiot - i ran out the door without my balaclava.

when i got there early a skier rode up with me. he said he loves watching us carve it up. another one, an older woman, had me confused with greg. she asked me if i had a white snowboard.

greg and erik showed up. carved up crossroads. milkrun was so so. olympic was not much fun. its got some rollers here and there. too much effort.

left after two hours. my toes were frozen.

Evening

went back out at around 4pm. less wind. slightnly warmer. snow held up reasonable well.

there were some trenches under the tower from this morning that hadn't been touched.

around 5:30 pm i had the run to myself.
