The snow should be great for carving, at least until lunchtime. Then it depends on the humidity. Sun should be out.

right you are ken

Morning

no grooming today. i was surprised because last night it got below freezing. conditions were a little rough but i could hold an edge. eventually the snow softened and it was quite good. i left when it got slurpy.

the wind was blowing uphill from south east. it was blowing hard, about 20-25 mph. on one run the wind "assisted" my heel-to-toe side transition. saw some skiers using their poles half way down in order to get up to speed. on the chair, the snowboard acted as a wing. unnerving. reminded me of the bridge lift at lutsen.

lasted till 2 pm.

Kessler

after riding an hour on the rossi, i finally tried scuff's kessler. took me a couple runs to get used to the turning radius. its definitely damper than the rossi. one thing that was different was my heel-sides would hook up faster. on two runs i got compressed into my knees on heel-side. i don't remember that ever happening to me before.

lines in the snow looked nice and thin. felt good to ride.

Donek

after the kessler i rode my donek with cateks. initially it felt horrible. it felt stiffer. it took more energy to make it turn. it felt bumpier. after a couple runs i got used to it. lines in the snow were much wider compared to the kessler.

will be out saturday. hope to see cord.

Morning

if you stayed home today then good call.

icy. hard. cord. the tiller left slightly raised verticle columns every 3-4 feet so it was somewhat bumpy.

crappy light but the snow was getting discolored -- different shades of gray. seemed to help.

rode kessler. was going too fast to handle. hard to keep speed in check. the edges were barely penetrating the snow. gloves and pants were getting shredded. not fun. :(

went to warners. you'd think it would be better. yeah, not so much. if anything it seemed worse. like the cord was thinner.

Boarder-X

buck set up the boardercross on milkrun. in between berms and rollers there was bare ice. saw some skiers and snowboarders going through the course. the speed!!! one snowboarder taking a practice run went airborn on a roller and landed on his ass. wish i was around to watch more -- good Tosh.0 material.

only way i would ride through that melee is this...

how was buck today?

after riding welch today i'm about ready to call it quits.

I lasted about 1.5 hours. Karl was out with his new Donek, sweet looking ride!

It was granular over ice. A little better than yesterday. It was actually fun for about an hour, once it got chunked up that was enough for me.

My mountain bike is looking pretty tempting these days.

Snow at Hyland was firm on Saturday. Wasn't quite ice, wasn't quite granular.. it held a carve alright..

Buck was better on Sunday, but like Bionic said, it got chewed up and lost it appeal pretty quick.

Gotta get my boards dialed-in for Nationals.

Hope to take a couple runs tonight at Buck around 7pm.

Conditions were not great at 7pm..

Soft-serve ice-cream on top of melty hardpack/ice.

After 4-5 runs it seemed to started becoming granular and snow-cone as it firmed up a bit. Better, but not enough fun for me to stick around.

Riding Roses and Thorns - Skating on a riser plate on a slalom board in the soft mush... sucks, but once moving it sure does improve the edge hold on icy conditions.

Last Day

today was fairly decent. the runs were groomed!

however getting to the lift was sketchy. big patches of ice. i hadn't been out boarding since welch. been ill with itchy lungs. took me a few runs to be comfortable. the snow held but occasionally i fell.

i had expected crappy conditions. i drove by on 35W last monday and the run looked like a turd. today there was only a few brown spots.

overall, it felt good to get outside.

till next year!
