  1. Hey Brad, I'm really sorry to hear what happened. I would have never thought that it could happen to a 21-year-old. Glad to hear of the quick recovery. Hang in there, sounds like he'll be up and about in no time ! 'later...

    doh!

The only issues I know about are the crashes caused by the app enhancer software http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306857 and the DNS issue http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=5752428#5752428 I've been experiencing the DNS issue. Worked around it by adding the opendns.org addresses to my config. Now I'm not getting the timeouts I used to get. 'later...
  3. Maybe. Depends on where I'm working at the time and whether I can get the time off or not. 'later...
  4. That's a steal ! I'd definitely be interested. 'later...
  5. I only got into hardbooting because we only got powder days about 2 times per season in Quebec. I do love hardbooting, but it's #2 for me. Hardboots for hard conditions, softboots for soft conditions. That's how I see it. 'later...
  6. He's beautiful. What kind ? 'later...
  7. You missed a great deal, not to mention some super skiing. The last movie, Seven Sunny Days was the best one. The did a great remake of the opening scene of A View To A Kill, complete with explosions and guys skiing off a cliff, ditching the skis and parachuting down but minus the snowboarding. That was followed by about 10 minutes of watching base jumpers wearing wing suits fly down and about 1 inch from the side of the mountains. In one scene, they attached a camera to the leg of one of the jumpers such that it looked like the viewer was following him. It was awesome !! 'later...
  8. I can't help but question how nice the basement could have been if it was condemned. Why was it condemned ? I agree, moving blows. That's one reason why I sold and donated all my furniture, electronics, dishes, cutlery, etc. I do miss the comforts I had, but I like the flexibility I gained. 'later...
  9. around +21 Front / +9 back. I used to use around +27F/+15B. And I'm using Salomon Dialogue boots, 2001 model, I believe. 'later...
  10. I really like the new site, Sean. It's easy to navigate, it's uncluttered and the info is clear and easy to find. Great job ! 'later...
  11. I was walking past Source and saw the poster for the Freshtival ski film festival in Calgary. Has anyone been to it before ? Is it usually any good ? Better than the Warren Miller stuff these past few years ? 'later...
  12. I found Banff was relatively cheap, except for the restaurants. The hostel (Hosteling International) is the best one I've been in and it cost something like $30/night. The tri-area lift tickets include the shuttlebus from Banff to the resorts and back. You'll be pretty much the only carver there, surrounded by freeriders and Soft-Booted Park Monkeys. But the facilities in the hostel are great. It's about a 15-minute from the downtown core, which is really small. But the resto food is top-notch. The Silver Dragon resto is as good as the best Chinese food you'll ever eat in Montreal. You'll need to purchase a service to take you from the airport to Banff. It cost me $95. In total, I spent $1015, not including airfare, for the 8-day trip. I only bought supper in a resto. All other meals I made myself at the hostel, including lunch. 'later...
  13. Best of luck Fin & co. ! You should never have had to go through it. But that's life, I guess. As for the threadjack, buying TD2 Stepins was the first thing that came to mind when I saw the Canadian dollar approach par with the US. Now all I need is a job and a bunch of snow. :) 'later...

    Where's Gonzo?

Last I saw, he had embarked on a music career (contains "foul language"): 'later...
  15. Gotta love Scott Adams's illustration of it. 'later...
  16. Very cool indeed ! Hats off to them. 'later...
  17. Yes, I think we should definitely hear more about it. It's about a carver, carving equipment, carving equipment manufacturers and riding a carving board, which is all fair game on this board. I was under the impression that the lawsuit was resolved. I'm really sorry to hear that it isn't. I would certainly like to know I can help. 'later...
  18. Ooops, I completely missed the update. Justin, really sorry to hear about what happened. Sounds to me too that you got screwed. Dunking fries !? That's BS ! That's what they call the bait-and-switch. They lure you with the promise of what you want and then switch it on you. Consulting companies in the IT apparently do that occasionally to their clients, but using a top programmer/analyst as the bait. Having been burned once by that kind of crap in the tech world, I can understand your frustration. I ended up looking for a new job after about 2 months or so, and left after 4 months. F**k 'em ! I was completely open, honest and explicit in the interview. They weren't. Therefore they didn't deserve me to stay longer. F**k 'em ! There's a pretty big shortage of cooks/chefs in Calgary. So I'll bet you'd be cooking in no time. It's something to consider if you decide relocate. 'later...
  19. yeah, that occurred to me last night while lying in bed trying to think of other ideas. D'oh ! 'later...
  20. Just got another idea today: if you get a few boards, then you can make a hardshell casing for the boards you want to keep and travel with. :) You would need to come up with some way to fill in the spaces between the sidecuts of 2 adjacent boards. But it would be kind-of cool. 'later...
  21. Hey, cool idea indeed ! 'later...
  22. Here are a few ideas off the top of my head: - bench - cupboard door - shelf - cover it with some kind of white plastic and you could have a whiteboard - CD rack -- just cut slots into it and attach two poles into the back to be used as legs of a stand. BTW, you can have my freeride board if you want too. The base is concave, higher than the edges and pretty much flat ==> time to retire it. :) 'later...
  23. That kind-of thing been known around here (Canada's perennial fraud capital) for years. About 4-5 years ago I saw a report in one of the local newspapers about cellphone scanners available on the black market. People could buy these scanners, drive around town and listen to other people's phone conversations. 'later...
  24. SHOOOOOT !! About 6-7 years ago I interviewed for a job at a startup company that was working on cell phone tracking software. After they described their product to me, I said "Hey, you could use that to track your friends and alert you when a given friend is with in X meters from you." They "Uh, yeah, I guess you could". I didn't get called back and the company went under about a year or so later. It wasn't quite the use I was looking. But I have to say that it's yet another nail in privacy's coffin. 'later...
  25. Not necessarily. I'm thinking of when I'm out hiking, camping, driving or some other situation where I'm not among addresses -- that is visible addresses. :) A thought just occurred to me: could parents use it to locate their kids in a mall ? I don't have kids and don't want any, so it's not a problem for me. It's just a thought that came to mind. Ultimately, I want to compare the phone with built-in GPS to the Plan B you mention. But I've only been able to find one serious review of the GPS functionality of the 6110 Navigator. I'll give it a shot. But the volume button is mechanical pushbutton switch and not a membrane button like the keypad. I say that because one of the problems I get is that occasionally the volume menu pops up and the volume increases to max no matter which button I press. Obviously, the +volume button is stuck. But the dead-button problem I'm having will probably get fixed by doing as you suggest. I'll give it a shot. Thanks ! 'later...
