  3. Dr. Doom . How did they know I was cynical ? Nice to see I have a 62% chance of being Mystique. I guess the 48% shortcoming is due to my lack of great t*ts. 4. How long is that program ? Did you guys start with food safety and such ? I took a few general-public courses at l'Institut de Tourisme et D'Hotelerie here in Montreal. They seemed to take a more academic approach in their full-time programs, starting you off with theory, food safety, etc. I'm looking into studying to be a pastry chef. I'm dying to start my own business. Move to a developing town and start a tea shop or cake decorating business or maybe just a funky pastry shop. drool, drool, drool. You should check out the photos in the book The Art Of Cake or The Professional Pastry Chef: Fundamentals of Baking and Pastry. You'll gain weight just by looking at them. Who would have expected that ? :) Looks delicious ! I agree with putting less olive flowers. But then again, classic tapanade is waaaaay to intense for me. 'later...
  5. I bought a Glestain Santoku (Japanese -- see photo below) about 6 months ago. I ordered it straight from Japan ( http://www.JapaneseChefsKnife.Com ). I'm very happy with it. It's great for slicing. Cucumbers, tomatoes, et al never stick to the blade. I've only seen a couple of places in Montreal that sell Japanese knives. The only one that sells a significant amount of them is Paul's Finest (http://www.paulsfinest.com/ ). Thanks for the tip. I started looking at whetstones, but didn't know what to look for. I've been using a Lansky diamond sharpening system ( http://lansky.com/products/systems/diamond2.html ). It works great with my Henckel's, but the clamp won't hold my Glestain. I tried putting the sharpening stones in a vice and using it as a whetstone, but that did a horrible job -- I should say, I did a horrible job. :) I now have scratches all over the face of the blade. I'll bring it to a pro and get them to fix it up a bit. Then I'll run out and get a whetstone and some shims. :) 'later...
  6. Good point. It hadn't crossed my mind. Busted ! :) Well, that's part of the reason, albeit a significant part.'later...

  10. While digging up info on SLC as a result of a job opportunity in American Fork (Utah), I came across the Best Places rankings on CNNMoney's site. I had seen a few people (not here on BOL) swear by it, claiming it was the most accurate from their experience. So I checked it out. They have categories for Most Singles, Youngest, Job Growth, etc. They also have one for the towns with the skinniest people, which they define as those with the lowest BMI (body-mass index). http://money.cnn.com/magazines/moneymag/bplive/2006/top25s/skinniest.html Now here's the shocker: Houston is ranked #3 in the skinniest towns category !! WTF !?!?! From what I had gathered from friends who had been to Houston, various articles and not to mention Morgan Spurlock's documentary that Houston was the fattest town in the country. So, how accurate is that ranking ? Are the people of Houston the fattest or third skinniest ? 'later...

  12. Depending on how you define the term, I would say I start planning it about 3-4 months away. Here in Quebec, that would be September. That's when everything starts going on sale: winter equipment; snowboarding gear; season passes and coupon booklets start; etc. The key phrase here is "start planning". :) 'later...
  13. I believe the quality of the male sperm decreases a fair amount when they're in their 40s. I remember reading that it increases the chances of birth defects too. OK, I just found a bunch of articles about it. Here's one: http://www.llnl.gov/pao/news/news_releases/2006/NR-06-06-01.html I don't know how credible the source is, but the article does echo what I had read. Unfortunately, that's normal. Check out the womens' profiles and you'll see there are lots of other women having the same problem. :( 'later...
  14. Good to see you stick to your guns. I must be living in some kind of bubble. Most of the guys I know don't want kids. At least, that's what they claim. However, some are willing to have kids if their wives (present or future) want them. I guess they're boiling it down to deciding whether they love having their wives more than they hate having kids. 15. Yeah, I thought the same thing. I just copied it blindly from the book. I tried correcting it, but I was only able to change the message, not the poll. I'm guessing that it's impossible to score 30 unless you lie. 'later...
  16. I scored the max, 29, which surprised nobody who knows me. 'later...
  17. The thread on mountain personalities got me thinking about this amazing book been reading titled "The Introvert Advantage" by Marti Olsen Laney and how many people on this board are introverts or extroverts. So, here's a self-assessment taken from the book, to determine if you're an introvert or an extrovert. Answer the following questions with a True or False, then count the number of True answers you put down, and check against the scoring at the end. Questions 1. When I need to rest, I prefer to spend time alone or with one or two close people rather than with a group. 2. When I work on projects, I like to have larger uninterrupted time periods rather than smaller chunks. 3. I sometimes rehearse things before speaking, occasionally writing notes for myself. 4. In general, I like to listen more than I like to talk. 5. People sometimes think I'm quiet, mysterious, aloof, or calm. 6. I like to share special occasions with just one person or a few close friends, rather than have big celebrations. 7. I usually need to think before I respond or speak. 8. I tend to notice details many people don't see. 9. If two people have just had a fight, I feel the tension in the air. 10. If I say I will do something, I almost always do it. 11. I feel anxious if I have a deadline or pressure to finish a project. 12. I can "zone out" if too much is going on. 13. I like to watch an activity for a while before I decide to join it. 14. I form lasting relationships. 15. I don't like to interrupt others; I don't like to be interrupted. 16. When I take in lots of information, it takes me a while to sort it out. 17. I don't like overstimulating environments. I can't imagine why folks want to go to horror movies or go on roller coasters. 18. I sometimes have strong reactions to smells, tastes, foods, weather, noises, etc. 19. I am creative and/or imaginative. 20. I feel drained after social situations, even when I enjoy myself. 21. I prefer to be introduced rather than to introduce others. 22. I can become grouchy if I'm around people or activities too long. 23. I often feel uncomfortable in new surroundings. 24. I like people to come to my home, but I don't like them to stay too long. 25. I often dread returning phone calls. 26. I find my mind sometimes goes blank when I meet people or when I am asked to speak unexpectedly. 27. I talk slowly or have gaps in my words, especially if I am tired or if I am trying to speak and think at once. 28. I don't think of casual acquaintances as friends. 29. I feel as if I can't show other people my work or ideas until they are fully formulated. 30. Other people may surprise me by thinking I am smarter than I think I am. Scoring 20-30 True: Pretty darn introverted. 10-19 True: Somewhere in the middle 1-9 True: You are more extroverted
  18. Now that's funny. 'later...
  19. (shaking my head) what an idiot. He's a jerk alright. Sounds to me like you would have had more work than you do now if you did sign up. 'later...
  20. Well, that's how thing have worked out for my friends and I. In my case, something bad happening in my love life was followed by something good happening in some other part of my life. Now that I think about it, it's just like the similar saying they have in the investment world. I think it goes something like "From downfall comes opportunity". I believe the idea is to get the people to stop thinking about the downfall and start looking at the new opportunities that have arisen. Those who handle layoffs (I forget the real name for them, but I think it's something like "Reintegration agent") say that kind of stuff to those who just got laidoff. They probably have. But they bounced back successfully and are always in a happy, working relationship at the time they say that. Let's face it, it's a really easy thing for a person to say and believe in when it works for them. Just once, I'd like to hear someone who just got dumped bad say "It's better to have loved and lost than not to loved at all". I won't hold my breath waiting. :) It's kind of like the statement "Get a job !". 'later...
  21. Get him to babysit a bunch of hyperactive 3-5 year old boys -- with only one of each type of toy, of course -- for an entire day and then ask if he still wants to have kids. Waaaaaay too many people decide whether or not to have kids based on their experience with kids when the kids were at their best. Big mistake. The way I see it, a person who can't handle kids when the kids are at their worst shouldn't have kids at all, since they're almost certain to have to handle kids at their worst at some point. That's why I don't want kids. Yes, I realize they could always hand the kids off to someone else when the kids are at their worst, but that's not always an option and I question if that's good parenting, since it can get out of hand very easily. Convenience is a very addictive drug. I'm not saying that your guy is that kind of person. I'm just making a comment on the topic. I hope I don't end starting a war. :) Yikes !! Ouch indeed. I may be able to help with the roommate thing, but not until June or I find a job, whichever comes first. I believe the universe is all about balance. Bad things happening means good things will happen later on. As much as what happened on the weekend sucked, something equally good will happen in the future. :) 'later...
  22.   I almost fell out of my chair when I read that ! 'later...
  23. (shaking my head...) that skier is an idiot. Now imagine living in a town filled with people making even dumber comments than that -- people who tell you what you're thinking and what the motivation behind your actions are without asking a single question. Anyways, before I go on another rant, I will say that in the days of pure GS, the racers were definitely not short. They were big (close to 6 feet). I have noticed that the racers who participate in PGS are generally shorter than the guys I used to see racing GS. It does make sense, since PGS is more about technique than GS (in a similar way that PSL is more about technique than PGS), which does diminish the advantage of being heavy. At least, that's the way I see it. :) queequeg, great post ! 'later...
