  1. At $10/gallon, maybe people will stop !@#$ ridiculing and marginalizing me for not owning a car and for getting around by biking, walking and public transportation. And maybe the people in this cult called Boulder (CO), which prides itself on how much of a bike town it is, will stop blindly assuming I own a car. And maybe my oldest brother will stop telling me how I'll never get a girlfriend if I don't own a car. Ok, that's my rant for today. :) 'later...
  2. I bought a Giant FCR 3 for US$486 -- it's normally $520 (before taxes), but it's last year's model, so it sells for cheaper. I find it quite fast, light and rugged, especially for it's price. 'later...
  3. To ride. Last season I rode twice, both times on rented gear which I'm certain was made by Catelli. The season before, I did 3 days at Sun Peaks and a week in Banff. But at least it was my gear. So I'd be happy if I could just ride. After that, I'd say SES. Jack, you set a lofty goal, but damn I hope you pull it off !
  4. Yeah, and they never get several consecutive weeks of rain either. Beats Boulder. About a month of 30C temps every day, and it's not even summer yet. Phoenix is worse: 45C. A co-worker of mine just told me today that the airport in Phoenix shuts down when the temps get to 49C (120F). 'later...
  5. I'd totally draw the line on that. Smoking and drinking in the men's room is bad for you and not cool at all. 'later...
  6. Well, I'm not fat and thus don't need to diet. So I'll stick to my current diet containing pizza, lots of cookies, cakes, etc. and eating anything I want. Good luck with your diet folks ! (as I duck and run :) I strongly agree about going to see a professional certified dietician/nutritionist. It's totally worth the money and more. I went a few years ago for help with a chronic fatigue and depression problem -- yeah, seeing a nutritionist was my first choice, afterall, you are what you eat. I still stick to the diet today except for the bunch of sweets I eat. If you're switching to vegan, don't be surprised if you still have some love handles and sensitive teeth. This is usually caused by consuming too little protein, which I hear is a common problem among vegans. Make sure you're combining your foods to maximize your protein intake. Check out: http://www.bodyforlife2.com/incompletprotein.htm I just re-evaluated my protein consumption after my dentist telling me that my teeth were fine and he didn't see why I had developed a problem with really sensitive teeth since moving here. So I bumped it up, and varied my veggies more and sure enough, my teeth are feeling strong & fine ! :) 'later...
  7. Tea and soy milk are waaaaay cooler than beer. :) Jeez, I go away for a few months, and come back to find this thread is still alive and kicking. The ultimate Terminator thread. 'later...
  8. Dumb guy indeed. My first thought was that he was incredibly stupid. My second thought, is that he may have been lacking attention and/or sex and/or love. Did the wife work long hours ? I'm used to hearing this, but with the genders reversed. Of course, he may just have been simply greedy. Reminds me of something a male former co-worker of a friend of mine said: They're all the same with their face down in the pillow. Kind-of mean and heartless, but then again, I have no idea what kind of women he was with. :)
  9. Congrats Boris ! 'later...
  10. You think that's tough, try immigrating to the US. :) 'later...
  11. Sorry I couldn't make it this time around. I've been busy settling in, dealing with immigration issues, etc. and feeding my newly-acquired photography addiction :), thus accounting for my disappearance from BOL (but not entirely). Plus, I haven't shipped my riding stuff here yet. I'll definitely make next year, though. Glad to hear you had such a great time. 'later...
  12. Well, I made it. I found a place, renting a room in a condo close to downtown. I don't have my boarding equipment. Getting my stuff in the country has been a real pain in the ass, especially clothes. For clothes, apparently the CBP wants me to list every item, what it's made of and where it was made ! The boxes I've had shipped here so far, were really, really banged up -- rounded bashed in corners, holes, etc. So, I'm looking into getting a moving company to move my stuff here. Other than that, and the ridiculous amount of paperwork, and the insane amount of time I have to wait for my SSN, everything is going well and I'm really enjoying it ! 'later...
  13. Hi folks, I'll be moving to Boulder (from Calgary) in the next few weeks, and I'm looking for a landing pad -- a place I can stay until I find an apartment. If you're looking for a roommate, you're not tooooo much of a jerk and you like homemade desserts and James Bond movies, then I'd probably be interested in staying longer. :) I'll be working by Spine Rd and 63rd Street (N) and with out a car, so I'd need to be near public transportation. I don't have an exact date yet, we'll figure that out once I get my work visa -- the letter from the employer is on it's way and should be in my hands in the next couple of days. Also, I welcome any advice for immigrating to the US and moving to Boulder. In particular, banks, cellphone service providers, etc. I visited Boulder in the fall of 2005, so I do have an idea of what it's like. Unfortunately, I won't be arriving with my boarding gear, it's still out east. Once I settle in, then I'll have it shipped over. Thanks-O-Bunch ! 'later...
  14. Thanks for the headsup drzone. Just the other day I thinking how cool it would be to have a live histogram. This will be awesome. It's supports my A630 too. Woo Hoo ! 'later...
  15. I had a great time folks ! You're a great bunch of riding buddies. Wish I brought my carving gear. 'later...

  18. Merry Christmas ! The view at Sunshine Village resort 2 weeks ago.
  19. I didn't find the VW commercial funny. I wasn't upset or disturb by it in any way, I just didn't find it funny. I found it bland. That said, I do think it's inappropriate. 'later...
  20. I'm assuming you're talking about foods that you don't have to heat up in the lodge's microwave. Your choice of cheese (BabyBel) is the best protein choice. For grains, take bread, granola bars or cookies (in order of most nutritious). A bread with a hard crust would be the best choice, since they don't get squished as easily as a slice of bread we usually buy. For fruits, I would suggest apples, tangerines, clementines or dates. Dates are especially good because you only need two big ones to make one serving of fruit -- they're quite rich in carbs. For veggies, the usual suspects: carrots, celery, sliced red/green/orange/yellow peppers, cauliflower, broccoli, etc. A cheese sandwich with some sliced raw veggies would be a great choice. 'later...

    facebook.com

Yeah, I'm on it. Got on this summer, around June, got hooked pretty bad. Then I discovered flickr and started getting into photography a few months later....which explains my absence from BOL and to a lesser degree Facebook. :) Just got the invite from Derf for the BOL/FB group. Thanks Derf ! One important thing to keep in mind is that once a person sends you a Friend Request (an invite for you and them to become friends), they are able to see your profile, even if you haven't accepted their friend request. Last I remember, Facebook tells the requester that they'll be able to see your profile for up to 30 days or so. IMO, this is a major flaw. If you have your profile privacy set so that only your friends can see it, then only confirmed friends should be able to see it, not pending friends. I think the best thing about Facebook, what makes it really special, is that it provides us with several ways for us to express ourselves quickly and effectively. Results in faster communication of ideas and thoughts. 'later...

I may be moving out of AB for work by then. If not, then I'll definitely be there. We had similar evenings in Quebec, run by the coach of the Quebec racing team. Great stuff. 'later...
