  1. I dunno, is a monoski a snowboard? I think a good test for "is it a snowboard" is could a typical advanced/expert softboot snowboarder jump on it and link turns without instruction. The answer is yes for alpine snowboards, so they are snowboards in my book. FIS agrees. I'm not sure the answer would be yes for a Skwal but I've never tried one. I think the answer would be clearly no for a monoski unless the snowboarder also knew how to ski. FIS says neither are snowboards.
  2. They are Thermoflex, but they are pretty thin. Could be good if the foot is high volume and/or 25.0 to 25.7 cm long.
  3. Donek usually leaves alpine boards raw because they know we are particular about tuning. Maybe that text was just standard boilerplate for all boards. It will be a different board after a good grind and bevels.

  5. I feel like they should rotate it 45 degrees...?
  6. I have a Vist 17 on my F2 163 Proto. The height is lower than most. It works pretty well. It's a board flex modifier like the Donek F and Kessler plates. It's not as effective as an aluminum Allflex spring plate, but it's much lighter and more forgiving. It would be very worthwhile to try one on an MK if one thinks it's too turny.
  7. The Vist Snowplate 17 is narrow enough, works with 4x4 inserts, and is affordable... anyone could add one to their MK to mellow it out...
  8. Indeed there's no Titanal in the MK. I'd estimate the scr at about 9m tops.
  9. Welcome @Jdphilip! For hardboots, the Specter's sidecut radius is too short and the waist is wide. For softboots, the waist is too narrow. For general purpose carving I'd recommend an alpine board around 170cm with metal (Titanal) construction, a sidecut radius around 12m, and a waist width around 20cm. For icier conditions, narrow trails, crowds, look for something around 163cm long, with sidecut around 10m.
  10. A local with some connections posted elsewhere that everything is supposed to be up and running by around Christmas, but that then they will have to test and debug everything for about a month. Another guy who is working on the project posted about transporting the 76,000 lb haul rope to the bottom terminal today.
  11. Originally they said mid February 2024 then they moved it up to mid to late January. A Sugarloaf response in this post 3 weeks ago repeats that, but this page says late Jan/early Feb. I've walked around the area a few times now and it looks like it will be great cruising terrain. Pretty major expansion, and not just for real estate. I'm looking forward to trying it. The lift is 6574' long with 1433' vertical rise. For comparison, SuperQuad is 6800' long and 1800' vert. The runs are long!
  12. ^ that is going to be a hockey skate.
  13. https://skylineouterwear.ca/product/super-furnace/ This is my third and best insulator/puff from Skyline/FA. Going on my 2nd winter with this one. Very warm. A little warmer than an LL Bean 850 down jacket, but synthetic Primaloft, so you don't have to worry about moisture. Breathability is excellent. The "3D woven seamless baffles" are not just marketing. I've had zero leakage of insulation material which is common with down and sewn baffles. I wear this by itself around town and for dog walking, and for sub-zero polar vortex days on the hill under a shell or another jacket. Then it is supremely toasty. I would not want it to touch the snow while carving, but it has proven to be more durable than my old LLB. It still looks new. The side pockets are unlined mesh which is not the coziest for hands, but allows the pockets to double as vents. The mesh maximizes breathability and packability, and minimizes weight. You can also put stuff behind the hand pockets from the inside. The interior vertical chest pocket is also mesh. It's good for a phone, sunglasses, etc. Being inside the insulation is good for your phone battery but with a tradeoff on convenience. The fleece lined collar is a perfect height and comfy on the face. Tiny SL logo on the collar is stealth. The zipper is a YKK "anti-crease" unit. Seems pretty standard, but is beefed up from the previous generation, which is welcome. I am 5'11", 220lbs, wearing the XL comfortably. Highly recommended.
  14. @RoroSnow Stock. I'll be adding medium flex Powerride tongues this year. Mostly out of curiosity. I'm not serious about SB carving, but I like to put the edge in on the flats.
  15. Mmmyeah not much freecarving footy there, eh?
  16. I considered and tried on both. I went with the Ion because it felt like my previous Driver X and because I could feel the plastic reinforcement in the Photon.
  17. I mean no JJA freecarving videos that I know of
  18. Looks like he's been watching Sigi Grabner videos, the gold standard for race form (because there are no JJA videos), which is best on icy conditions.

  20. When you mount your bindings at appropriate angles to avoid toe/heel drag, like 55 degrees or more, the inward cants are usually not needed. It's personal preference though. Riding with your knees stuck together is old school and not as powerful or balanced.
  21. Another great one. Clearly I do not have enough outfits.
  22. Glad someone noticed! But it’s not perfect yet. Need to get rid of those yellow e-rings.
  23. I love that picture. It was taken in the 90s when relations between skiers and snowboarders ranged from animosity to rivalry to friendly ribbing. I'd estimate a majority of skiers were still either convinced or quietly hoping snowboarding was just a fad. This picture perfectly captured the time, and snowboarding's superiority in powder, and I as a young buck snowboarder scored it an in-your-face win. I only recently learned from Fawcett's Instagram post about this cover shot that the hapless skier was John Egan. My daughter was on the CVA mogul team with his nephew.
