  1. @Mike Kildevaeld thanks for the updates. Does the OneSki have an Allflex-style suspension mechanism? Seems like it would be a natural fit.
  2. Welcome! That's very nice of you. If you really mean new and you are willing to spend about $1000 or more, honestly he should post here so we can have a conversation about exactly what he wants and needs. You don't want to spend that kind of money on a surprise only to have it be a disappointment. We need to talk about his ability, weight, foot size, the board's sidecut radius, length, width, what terrain he wants to ride, what style of riding is he after, etc. There are two types of alpine snowboard bindings: step-in, and standard. Standard bindings have a toe lever that you operate manually to clamp the boot in the binding. They fit all standard ski boots and alpine snowboard boots. Step-ins have an automatic mechanism that allows you to quickly step into the binding without bending over. Only boots with Intec compatible heels work with step-in bindings. There is nothing different about Mountain Slope (MS) boots or bindings, they are standard. Full Tilt boots are the best ski boots to use on a snowboard, but snowboard specific hardboots are better, if he wants to go that way. His board is a Volkl from the early 2000s. It was a great board for its time, but it certainly doesn't owe him anything and there is newer tech that he will enjoy.
  3. Amplid does look cool. Are they mainstream/mass market though? The Commissioner is the new Timeless (ironic that they chose to rename the “timeless”) and while it’s probably their carviest board, it still has a powder nose and a significant tail.
  4. Personally, for serious carving, I won’t be getting anything less than microbrew builds like the “kitchen sink” construction from Winterstick going forward. I think constructions like these don’t make sense for mass market boards. That said, the Ride Commissioner is pretty exotic, but it’s not a carving focused shape.
  5. Sugarloaf isn’t big enough!
  6. For a second I thought the soundtrack was going to be "Love's Theme" by Barry White, and I got excited.
  7. Yes, yes it is. Ok no, it’s Craig Kelly. I bought a print from the photographer, Bud Fawcett.
  8. I just got it. I suppose I’ll be answering “how long is that?” every time. My previous SW164 would just get “Nice Winterstick” or “Nice board”.
  9. Since my rotator cuff surgery may keep me off hardboots this year, may as well replace the 7 year old freerider with this TB172!
  10. Thanks Nate. I also enjoyed the original, glad to have it back. In its absence I've looked for others but was always disappointed. It is always useful to know the "average" sidecut radius of any board. It will at least tell you the general size of turns the board will carve, and what boards are in the same ballpark.
  11. Thanks. I'm thinking mid January, and I doubt I will be hardbooting this year. It's a slow recovery. 6 weeks in and it is sloooowly improving but still very fresh. PT twice a week. Fortunately or unfortunately as the case may be, my surgeon is also a Sugarloaf snowboarder.
  12. Probably. Or it could be a pebkac issue.
  13. The forum is now available as a standalone smartphone "app". I put that in quotes because it's really just a home screen bookmark, but it does look and feel quite like an app, and best of all, it allows push notifications even if you don't have your browser running. How to get this going on your phone: Manage your notifications by clicking the menu button, then the bell button, then Notification Settings. Change the ones you want to "Notification List + Push". Followed Content is probably one you want. Scroll all the way down that same page and click "Enabled in this browser" under Push. To get the bookmark and have it behave like an app, you'll need to clear your browser history and data. If you only want to remove the data for this forum, you can do that in advanced settings. I only have an iPhone, so the following instructions are for iOS: Quit Safari completely. Open Settings, Safari, Advanced, Website Data. Search for alpinesnowboarder.com and invisioncic.com. Swipe left on them to delete. Open Safari and go to the home page of the forum Click the share button in Safari, then "Add to Home Screen". It is also possible to create a home screen bookmark on Android, and to clear individual site data. When you click your new ASB "app", it should have no browser controls. If it does it means you didn't clear the history and data. If you don't get push notifications, make sure "Enabled in this browser" is checked. Enjoy!
  14. Seth has his signature model in 5 sizes from 145 to 161. 3 wide versions are available. Each got 3cm shorter overall with the new CK style tail, running length remains as before. He also had his hand in the design of several other models. There is also a women's model, the Tantra. https://www.winterstick.com/collections/snowboards
  15. When posting a URL to an image it should automatically embed. It does give you a link to undo that and display the URL instead, maybe you fatfingered that @BlueB?
  16. @bobdea not sure what's going on. I'm on 16.6 and can't seem to force an update. It's working for me. You are well within your allowance for attachments so it's not that. Let me know if this continues.
  17. I'm guessing the tail shape is the negative of the nose shape. If you're concerned about wearing down the horns, just lay the board down on the bindings and watch people be inconvenienced or tripped by your big 191 in the way.
  18. Conceived at MCC! https://rad-air.com/store/index.php/produkt/winterstick-collab-tanker-191/
  19. Count me in. Tore my right rotator cuff in January, trying to save a blown heelside with my hand. Dumb. Finally had it repaired on 7/19. 6 weeks in a sling, 6 months of rehab. Hope I can get back on snow in January. Don't put your hand down.
  20. I'd be willing to part with this board, as I think I am going to have another one made with subtle tweaks just for me: It's very stiff, would work well for your size if you are looking for something to actually carve, not just slide/surf. And the 21cm waist would be good for your boot size. At your height and weight it would be a slalom-ish board for you.
  21. An athlete I helped coach at CVA left me a well-loved 2021 SG Pro Team 163 with Allflex inserts to sell for him. It would be a good trainer/backup. Base cannot be ground again, $100 plus shipping.
  22. There will be more torsional flex as well. Probably too much. If you feel you need more than one F2 wedge or more than 6 degrees of Bomber lift, I'd recommend trying a narrower stance first. This looks pretty ridiculous for many reasons.
  23. Do I understand correctly, the board has what looks like Titanal strips on the base, but also traditional steel edges?
