  1. WOW, wish I could ride like that.
  2. Interesting, hopefully this won't turn out bad for the locals. We really don't need another Deer Valley type of resort that caters to the richest 1% of the U.S., heaven help us from that. Time will tell.

    Snowbasin

Hopefully this will give us a winter comparable to that winter in the video.

    Snowbasin

Howdy Buell We did get passes at PM. We have weekday passes at 'basin. The cost for both was the same as just a Snowbasin pass last year. We're looking forward to riding at PM again this year, real snow, Yay.

Just got back from riding, only able to ride from Needles to the Middle Bowl chair, then have to ride back down Needles gondola to the plaza. Only took 4 runs, but starting to get my "carving legs back". I'm hoping this dry spell ends really soon as this amount of terrain could get mighty boring after awhile. Oh well can't complain as it is still early season. Also no rocks on the groomers (5 runs open).
  6. Nice looking carving weapon. Enjoy the ride.
  7. Welcome to BOL, you will likely get a number of replies from some very knowledgeable people here. I hope you will enjoy the great fun of becoming a hardbooter.
  8. I hot wax the entire board about every third or fourth day of riding. And use the wax Whizard on the edges after almost every day of riding. Even though I ride in Utah it seems the wax gets worn off the edges pretty quickly due to trying to carve top to bottom on every run. I don't mess with sharpening the edges that often unless i get a nick from an exposed rock. Maybe I need to learn how to hot wax better to keep it from burning off the sides as quickly as it does.
  9. Bryan, That is the link to either email or call Judy Jarrow. I emailed her yesterday about RSVP, only if Dimitrije would be honored at the event. She emailed me back this morning assuring me that indeed he would be. Mick
  10. Winterstick pioneer and founder Dimitrije Milovich is to receive an award Thursday Nov. 1, 2012 at the Little America hotel in Salt Lake City, Utah. Go to this website for more info http://www.lib.utah.edu/collections/ski-archives/ski-affair-2000-2010.php It is RSVP and tickets are $65.00 per person. Come out and honor one of the godfathers of snowboarding. (In my and many others minds, the inventor of surfing powder). Mick Thueson
  11. Pretty hilarious Pat, thanks for the laugh.
  12. Thanks Mark for the explanation and comments about the boards and how they ride. Sounds like a board that would be very fun riding in the powder. Mick
  13. I agree with Nils, unless all you ride is powder/backcountry. Mick
  14. To my understanding, there are alot of private mining claims at Alta, so I don't think that the entire mountain is National Forest service property. Why not just go to Snowbird it's right down the road and has some pretty sick terrain anyways. Let the uptight wanker two plankers have their little private clubhouse.
  15. Years ago Powder magazine wrote an article about the ten steepest roads to a ski resort in North America. Powder Mountain was #1 which they called "a goat trail". Little Cottonwood canyon to Alta and Snowbird was #2 or 3 I believe.
  16. Snowbasin is a really fun resort, I've been riding there the last two years. Not too crowded during the week but that could change this season because of the insanely lowered season pass rates. I bought a weekday pass for $449 and plan on buying a pass at Powder Mountain for the weekends. Weekends at Snowbasin tend to become crowded after about 11:00 and I'm betting with the lowers pass rates it will be even more so. Not a whole lot of carvers there even with the great terrain. It seems that there are more hardbooters at Powder Mountain and the runs are a bit wider. The biggest downside is the goat trail that is called a road, it can be a bit white knuckle driving back down if it's snow packed. Also they do not have any snowmaking it's all natural snowfall so it always depends on if it's a good or bad snow year.
  17. I'm out, a little too much board for my wife right now.
  18. What is the weight range? Looking to get my wife a new ride. Thanks Mick
  19. My youger brothers got a Snurfer for Christmas in 1968, I used to laugh and thought "what a joke". I was a skier back then. Eight years later I bought the first Winterstick sold, and now look back at what the sport has become since those "old days". Great find on this old footage, any idea what year it was shot? Mick
  20. Please No. I have never even logged onto Lamebook. Don't really want to have to start now. Not a fan of the "hey look how groovy, bitchin, gnarly, rad, dude, mentality that Facespace is. JMO
  21. I bought a pair of 225's to replace my Raichle 413's. They were a bit narrower in the forefoot, had them punched out, and they are a bit stiffer than the Raichles, but love them since the mods were done. They are "supposed to be the softest" in the Deeluxe line from the comments here on BOL. I also put BTS on them to give more forward flex and shock absorbtion in the chattery snow. I ride them almost exclusively, except on powder days when I ride my powder boards with the 413's. Hope this helps if you are thinking of buying them. Mick
  22. Nice carving video, great carving by the riders. I agree with Sultan Guy, that fence is gnarly looking.
  23. Welcome back Buell, I hope that you and Rebecca are having fun riding the volcanoes. Mick
  24. Been out riding my Rat Fink chopper (bicycle) the last couple of days because of the conditions. It's supposed to snow again Sunday, then go back to record high temps again by Wed. Mar 21. Been kind of a sad season this year. Mick
