  4. Seconding the studded Gnarwal recommendation, they are confidence inspiring. Also want to commiserate on how much elbow bursa rupture sux. I ruptured mine a few years back at the MES, without even knowing that anything was wrong. Two days after the MES I ended up with a giant swellbow, sepsis, a trip to the OR and a hospital stay. Protect those elbows....and pray for snow.

Got out early again with daughter in tow on skis. Very, very, firm, frozen cord, ridgy, super flat light. Guessing they got mostly rain during the last cycle.... after an hour and a half it started getting to busy to comfortably arc ice turns so my daughter and I headed to the magic carpet for her first time on a snowboard. Highlight of the day was a King burger at Kings Place Bar in Miesville.

1st time out for the season, started on soft boot setup and decided to stay in em’ given the lack of real estate and abundance of people’s. Many of the runs still have active snowmaking happening and are not full width or are not open. Grooming was OK but ridgey on most runs with the occasional ice sub layer. Fun sunny, 1st day out! Despite no hard boots... Be aware that the Welch website is horribly slow and ticket sale line was crazy after opening. On the MADD Jaxx side the old 4 seater with the pole in the middle of the bench was running but not loading . Four maintenance guys were standing around ogling up at the cable and first tower for a good hour. Welch replaced the middle of the bench bar with a curved bar that sits behind the bench. Great in that there are no more bar in the butt while loading issues. Bad in that said bar attaches through a swinging, bolted articulating piece, to the two upper bars which attaches to the cable. When the chair swings the articulating upper portion hits the new curved bar halting free swing of the chair, causing more bump and swing and prolly stress on the weld joints and bolts. Hard to explain, easy to understand when you are on the chair fearing for safety..... ahhhhh progress...

Chilly bluebird long weekend on the north shore this weekend. Runs are way wider and grooming way better than the last time I rode an alpine board here. The thaw last week really left things quite firm but beautiful despite the cold and wind.

    MES 2020

I am in, but looks like winter is out......
  9. I got out with the kids on NEw years day for the evening shift. We arrived at 4 to an almost full lot but found a spot right by the ski school. Grabbed our gear, walked up the beach in between ski school and rental shop. Lots of people milling about . As I bent down to get my front boot in, I heard a kid squeal and looked up to see a high speed, snow plowing but out of control bullet child who somehow managed to thread through criss crossing traffic and now was heading right for me. Just as I was bracing for impact , she went right around me, and my kids, straight at the ski racks which she was able to miraculously avoid, only to hit the sidewalk and go face first into the plexiglass window of the rental shop. There was silence, then screaming, it was ugly. Fun night , despite the shocking start. Firm , sorta unforgiving conditions, but fast. Crowds thinned out quickly, we rode till close.
  10. First day out for me this season. Great to see smiley Team China , and team Bobble rip it up this morning!!!

Hi! I'd like to buy the SG, wondering if you can confirm waist width for me as I have huge feet. I'm located in Minneapolis so close but not super close (55432 buisness zip). Also wondering if you can do $450 shipped? I am about to PM you on the face book. Thanks!! Tom

  13. About two weeks ago or so I was at Buck with my daughter and roughly a third of our trips through the main chair line it was smelling skunky, and I mean SKUNKY! The door to the chair control room was open a crack most times I was smelling the stank. It was a pretty busy day too, multiple races, PSIA certs, patrol doing sled drills. I felt like I was the only one aware of the vapor trail. Maybe the operations dept. is trying to boost food sales?!

Had a great day at Welch yesterday,. The wind was a bit cold but amazing great conditions and low crowd count. I almost felt ashamed at the condition I left Daves Dive in...

  19. A decade or so ago I was lucky enough to be out riding with Chris Prior (RIP) at Beaver Creek during SES. We were on a wide run making lazy GS turns, Chris was a few turns ahead of me and had just dropped over a rise to the steeper section of the run. Just as he went out of sight, out of the corner of my eye a skier, straightlining down the run, flew by me and dropped over the rise. As I came over the rise, I was horrified to see Chris sitting on the snow, on heel edge at a dead stop, with a pair of skis, still side by side, under his board.... Maybe 60 feet down the hill was the skier face down, head downhill, neither were moving quickly. I checked out Chris who seemed a bit dazed but alright, moved down to the skier who had headphones on with the volume so loud that the sound drowned out his moaning. He looked to be in his late 50's, no blood or body parts out of place. I tried to assess him and after about 2 questions, he got up and got angry. I tried to keep him sitting and calm but he immediately went into battle mode, told me he was going to kill the both of us and that his kids were on the hill and that we were a threat to his children. He then started hiking back up the hill to berate Chris, I tried continued to try to calm him but was preparing for what was looking to be a physical confrontation. Just as he made it up to Chris, patrol arrived and was able to talk the guy down.
