It's really an awesome board

Yup, selling this one. Though you can ride it with softboots it's really happiest with hardboots. It's one of the friendliest and most versatile HB board I can think of. It's very quick to turn and is nicely damp. Floats really really well in powder (if it can float in CO fluff it can float ANYWHERE). Really cannot say enough good things about this one. The only thing for me is that it is too narrow for my current use of softboots and that's why I'm letting it go. This particular board has been ridden approx 20 days. 23.5cm waist, ~10.5m contra sidecut, 180lbs rider. The base is 9/10, has 2 deepish marks on it (about 1mm deep) plus the usual scuffs on the topsheet. Never been ground yadda yadda yadda.

That is absolute truth! Now where can I find purple bindings?!?! Too bad these are just slightly too big (ok much much too big) because they are awesome! I would not hesitate to buy from the lord even though he waves it in the air like he don't care.

Ya got me on the "mostly men" part. Please don't go there. You wan to be in less crowded slopes? More experienced skiers? Fine. Don't assume that simply because older men can go mid-week that they are somehow magically better. FWIW I've had more close calls with the aforementioned demographic than any other this season. In my experience the "older male skiers" tend to be jerks but I digress. If you can say "get off my lawn" in a less tone deaf way that would be appreciated.

The old pin-nose A-Frame was a lot of fun in it's time. The current crop is also fun but for carving there are much better choices out there. They are also way too soft for most hardboots IMHO.

I guess then it all boils down to what is "meaningful carving". I still maintain that I see many people carving wonderfully on shorter boards. Certainly seems meaningful to me.

There you go I don't have hardboots since I don't get along with them. I either use 27/12 on my wider boards or 36/21 on my narrower boards. Both work really well for me. I do use 39/30 for the really narrow boards but those are less fun usually. The Kessler, the AZX and other 26cm boards are prefect for a carving SB board. I'm not in the market but that is what I would look for. FWIW it seems like I like the Japanese way of riding.

What angles are you running? A 28.5MP foot should result in approx 30-31cm BSL. That would force you to have an angle of 30° at the back which is a lot but if you are willing to endure a bit of overhang you could easily get that down to 21°. I ran 39°/30° on my 23.5cm Contra and that was perfectly doable for a carving board. If you look at the Japanese/Korean videos they usually list the angles for the riders. They can and do go up to those angles.

Interesting... I love the 260 waist on the 164 since I like riding with shallower angles. To me it looks like an amazing carving board just from a spec perspective.

Oh wow... I think I might have to agree... I got a chance to ride some deep pristine pow in the BC lately. While the runs themselves were absolutely amazing I only got 2 in and was absolutely destroyed! Contrast that to last week where I got 12 short runs on a messy groomed run. If I'm honest those were more fun for me. I guess I'm just a quantity type girl.... (oh gawd that reads TERRIBLE! Just wait until @lordmetroland gets a chance to respond)

Seems like in our neck of the woods helmets are still the norm though if it's a trend it will catch up. The real question is whether less people are wearing helmets or are you just noticing them more?

I half regret the original subject on this thread. Ultimately who's at fault is less important than how can this be prevented. There are many things the mountain and the skier could have done but thinking as the carving snowboarder I was wondering what could be done to prevent this. The easy answer - situational awareness - is not necessarily the right answer. Once you're carving and a slower skier is coming up fast your options are more limited. Better would be to really wait until the slope is clear. Are there any thing that we could get used to doing to prevent accidents like this?
