  1. Sorry to revive and old thread. i have a quick question. I have noticed that Tankers seem to be a popular board on this forum. i was thinking of picking one up to use for some all mountain and powder riding. Is there much danger of damaging the board riding TD2s on it? I'm fairly heavy (225lbs) so I would worry about being hard on the board.
  2. What plate system is he riding in the second video. You can kid of see it at 1:04. It sort of looked like the top secret Team Canada Apex... has it leaked out or was it a different plate system.
  3. I'm sure rock band wouldn't affect your world cup performance...unless you are playing it instead of training. :D The time from when you strike the drum pad to when the sound is played is different from when you strike an acoustic drum. Adjusting to this is not easy and often beginner players aren't even aware of this. It can lead to bad habits and a strange feel/groove when transferring to real drums. I don't doubt that playing a video game that simulates playing music is fun. Playing music is fun as well! :)
  4. Guitar Hero and Rock Band drive me nuts! I'm a music teacher and I think of all the time some kids spend playing them when they could be practicing and playing a real instrument and becoming real shredders. A couple of drum teachers that I know say that they notice a significant difference when their students are spending time playing Rock Band because it messes up their timing. I run a guitar club and I always lose a few kids every year because "it is not as easy as playin Guitar Hero." Aaaargh! Then again why would people talk to each other when they can text them...
  5. I really enjoyed the video. i only watched a part because i need some sleep but i'll get back on it tomorrow. That slope you are riding sure has a hump in the middle. i liked the air at 6:08
  6. Any Whitehorse hardbooters out there? I going to be carving the new snow Saturday morning January 16th first thing. If you're interested let me know. Send me an email or look me up. Jon Heaton
  7. Great looking car! I like the new camaro look.
  8. It is a pretty typical attitude of the younger generation of park rats...Richards hasn't seemed to grow up so... It is pretty funny how he is glorified for his rockstar lifestyle. It is hard for snowboarding to be considered a serious sport when the spokespeople sound like fratboys. No offence meant to fratboys. :D He makes it sound like freestyle is the only authentic snowboard activity. Style comes first. I wonder if Usain Bolt is thinking about how much better he looks than the other runners or is he trying to cross the finish line first. I'm sure Jasey J is thinking "Man that turn will look really good in an ad." as he is racing . The problem with a judged sport is that the judges all see the same athletes over and over again. They can't help but be affected by their preconceptions. Especially when they are in a scene that is filled with people who focus on their image. Halfpipe is the figure skating of snowboarding. ;) I'm not saying that I don't like freestyle snowboarding. I don't doubt that the freestylers are great athletes. They have amazing skills. I sometimes wonder how their training regime compares to other world class sports like cycling, track and field, swimming, cross-country skiing when it comes to diet, strength and cardio.

    Oh hell yes!

i'm curious. I think Liam Neeson can pull off hannibal but I don't know about the rest. The better at least be a cameo by Dirk Benedict. Starbuck Rules! I really enjoyed the new Star Trek movie because the actors really tried to capture the original characters personalities (With the exception of Kirk). If they try that with this movie it could turn out well. Watchoo talkin'bout foo!
  10. I have a few questions about my riding I'd like to ask. If you can help me out with your knowledge that would be great! 1) Last time I was riding, I found I was leaning way back on my tail to keep a carve going. Would it be beneficial to move my stance back a bit? 2) What is the effect of moving your stance back towards the tail? How does your technique change? 3) How about moving it forward? 4) There is a pretty steep face on a section of a run that I've been riding. When I'm riding a fairly steep face I have to skid to scrub speed. I really skid back and forth. It is too steep for me to carve. Once I've skidded my heelside edge I find that it is really hard to turn the nose back down hill to go to a toeside turn. I really have to hop. What am I doing wrong? How can i improve this? 5) I've been working on having my board turn and carve while my body maintains a fairly straight line down the hill I think they have been called crossunders, crossthroughs and crossovers. Are they different things? What are they?
  11. Sorry. No video. Just wanted to talk about my day riding. Went out today on my Hot Blast. Something clicked and it started to turn really nicely. We got a couple of inches of snow and I felt like my edges were holding well. That might have been the difference. It has been hard pack and ice all season. It is nice to have some grippy snow. By afternoon it was scraped down to the hardpack and it started to get sketchy. I spent some time on a mild slope working on crossovers or crossunders or crossthroughs (I'm not sore what the difference is) when I was at Alyeska and the conditions were bad. I think it made a difference in my edge to edge transitions. It may sound silly but today I concentrated on puffing my chest out. I hunch over a lot when I ride and pushing my chest out seems to help me drive my hip through my knees to the board...does that make sense? Is that bad technique? I still can't figure out how I make the board turn tight sometimes and sometimes it will only turn big. Overall, my best day yet.
  12. Nice video. I wish I could ride like that! Is MHM Mt. Hood? Looks like a fun hill to ride.
  13. Nice Idea. Our local surgeon is a hardbooter! I'm gonna try it!
  14. Awesome Graphic! That Kemper Freestyle was my first board! You should paint your Bombers fluorescent yellow to fit the retro look! ;)
  15. That looks amazing! I would really like to get a better idea about what models Bruce is building these days. They don't seem to relate to the out of date website. Is this board something you designed or is it based on one of his styles?
  16. Do you need it to eat? I'm all for hunting to provide a natural, unprocessed, unpackaged source of food.
  17. What can happen? Is it hard on the boots? or ankles?
  18. Sounds like you had a good first day. You were challenging the hill, bumps and steeps. Confidence like that and you will rule the hill in no time!
  19. I used to have one of these for a short while but a shorter version I think. It didn't last long as I preferred my PJs and I sold it. I remember that I didn't like the ride very much. The nose felt like it would catch at weird times but I probably never gave it the time it needed to find the sweet spot. At the time I was riding Burton PJ's and assymetrical Mistrals. it is definitely a walk down memory lane. It is pretty cool to find these in such good shape. It would be neat to ride and compare to newer boards but a shame to drill it.
  20. I don't think you were riding unreasonably at all. That being said, I think I can understand why ski patrollers and speed patrollers would be grumpy. I'm not saying that this justified the behaviour of this particular patroller. I was at Alyeska, which is a fairly big resort in Alaska last week. It has been a while since I have been at a bigger resort. The last bigger resort was Sunshine in Banff almost 10 years ago. By the end of my days at Alyeska, I was so frustrated by the behaviour of people on the hill that I called it quits early. Some of the things I saw; -out of control straightliners (Snowboarders and skiers) nailing people on the hill -skiers and snowboarders speeding into liftlines cutting people off -skiers skiing right into liftlines out of control and taking out multiple people (twice in 15 min). -people talking/texting on cell phones while sliding down the hill -people talking/texting on cell phones stopped right on the lift off ramp causing people to fall to avoid them - lifties right there and not doing anything. -a snowboarder pushing kids out of the way to get past them in lines. -people riding too close to other people/cutting them off. - a snowboarder even smacked my friend on the back of the head as they passed her. She tried to chase them down but couldn't catch them. There were hardly any patrollers on the hill and I never saw them dealing with these issues. The lifties didn't even deal with things that they clearly saw. I think there is a big problem with the way ski hills are being managed. If i was a ski patroller, I would probably react in one of two ways. I would go insane trying get people to show some respect to others or I would just give up and ignore everything. I kind of think that the old guy reacted in the first way. His reaction was also tempered with an ingrained bias against snowboarders which is unfortunately not uncommon. He saw a snowboarder that was passing others on the hill, his building frustration came to a boil and he took it out on Fin. I think it was a result of the common rude behaviour on ski hill getting to someone and, in turn, they took it out on an innocent bystander. These things won't be fixed until they truly teach and enforce etiquette on the hill. Wow! That was a soapbox rant! :D I guess it was building up!
