  1. I was in the same predicament when I started looking for boots. I wear a 9 shoe but fit a mondo 26/8US boot. I didn't have an opportunity to try on boots so i was wary of trying to buy a boot that appeared to be too small. I went in to a ski shop and tried on ski boots in mondo sizes to get an idea of how they fit. Keep in mind that these liners will pack in. I found that they packed in even within the 10 minutes I was wearing them. I found out that the advice and sizing info I got here and through bomber was totally correct. I fit a 26 mondo with room to spare actually. Get thermofit liners because this will give you some ability to adjust the fit. I made a big toe cap for mine as we get very cold weather and I wanted to give myself some insulation room.
  2. It depends a lot with the wind. I find -25C with no wind more sufferable than a warmer temperature with a wind chill of -25C.
  3. They look awesome. As they use a lot of the TD3 parts, I'm surprised that they are so expensive. I guess that this is due to the limited run.
  4. Nice toeside carves! you are really laying them over. Very smooth. What angles are you riding?
  5. First day at Alyeska in Anchorage Alaska and I got my butt kicked by the mountain! I took out my APX because I didn't want to try to ride an unfamiliar place on my bigger board. This place is steep, narrow and lumpy! I really couldn't find any good wide groomers to carve. I don't think I could even take out my bigger board here. I'm going to turn my angles back so they are less steep so I can slide some turns. :D ...I kinda wish I had a big wide powder board and softies here! ;) Man things have changed since I've been at a bigger resort. Radio activated lift cards, conveyor belts at the lift loading areas, people talking on cel phones as they go down the hill. I'm feeling like a geezer! :D
  6. Merry Christmas everyone and good new years snow! Thanks to everyone for gettin me back into carving!
  7. It's funny that there are so many bassists! I wonder if alpine snowboarders and bassists fit into some sort of psychological profile? :D:biggthump
  8. I know what you mean about piano. i wish that I played it even a bit. It is a great instrument. I started down the music path late and I have never really taken the time to learn it. i had to do a piano proficiency exam in university but i really just faked my way through it. Some day maybe I will be motivated enough to get to it.
  9. oops! Didn't realize this was in the carving section! Sorry Can it be moved over?
  10. I'm an upright bassist and music teacher. I play mainly jazz but I'm getting very excited about old-time and Appalachian music lately. I also play guitar and square neck resonator guitar a bit. Over the last couple of years I have spent a lot of time on the mandolin. I find that it is a very intuitive instrument to play and it is small enough that I bring it when I'm traveling and it keeps me busy. Anyone else playing out there these days? We should start an instrument quiver thread! :p
  11. I think I'm in love! She's about 176 cm tall, has a thin waist and needs lots of attention. Her name is Hot Blast...I think its a European name! :p I had a great time today. It was really cold, about -25 celsius so there was no one on the hill which was perfect for testing this new big turning board. I actually felt comfortable on this board. The hardest thing to get used to were the steep angles (65 front, 62 back) due to the narrower waist. I would like to lower the angle on the back foot a bit, I think. I really could carve this board and it turned tight...sometimes. I started out pretty easily and then pushed it more. I wouldn't ride it on a busy saturday but when I have a lot of open space, this is my kind of board. It was too much board by the end of the day though. My legs were pretty tired. I played hockey last night and probably faced 50 shots so I didn't have a lot left today. The last couple of runs I just couldn't crouch and work the board. I started falling over on toesides and touching down. I ran into a friend at the end of the day and he videoed me but it was getting pretty dark by 3 and I just wasn't riding well. Here is the link. Fourth day on the slopes. First on the Hot Blast.
  12. Love the videos! What a great training and learning tool. It is great to see some of the local board members riding. Great carves and nice style guys. Way to go Karverkai! You look like you are having a lot of fun. What do you use to record the video?
  13. I have a hard time bailing on a lift pass once its bought but if it seems really busy i will turn around and go home. I should know when to quit at the end of a day but I always take one more run and thats when my legs are jello and I end up going for a tumble. :o
  14. Got out for for an afternoon ride, I found another hardbooter in Whitehorse! He was riding a Prior 4WD 174 or 176. He had old burton bindings and wanted to try the TD2s. I'll let him try them out next time we meet up. I know there is one more so there are 3 of us up here. It's practically a scene! :D I also rode with another teacher who is a softbooter and he is really interested in getting into hardbooting. I directed them both here. It was fun to ride with other boarders. I didn't set up my new to me hot blast yet. I figured that it would be pretty crowded and I didn't want to get used to the bigger SCR when it was busy. I'll do that on Monday! The hill was pretty crowded so I was a bit hesitant to really carve and turn up the hill but I had some good runs. I am starting to get some heel lift in my boots as they pack in. I tightened them up and they were ok. I also tried riding my deeluxes in powder mode for a bit. I'm not sure if I like that play in the boots. I got a little too relaxed at the end of the day and caught my downhill heelside edge and went for a tumble. Thank you helmet! Overall a great day!
  15. How many rider have earned their spot on the Olympic team? Or have they named anyone to the team yet?
  16. I was talking to Andrea at YYZCanuck and she mentioned that she had sent some stuff to Whitehorse, Yukon recently. I didn't ask her to reveal customer information but she did confirm that there is another hardbooter up here. I thought I would post here as there is no ride board for the Yukon. I haven't ever seen another hardbooter. Time to 'fess up so we can go ride! :D
  17. I've just read this entire thread and realized there is a reason why I'm a music teacher and can only count to 4 and know the first 7 letters of the alphabet. ;) I don't think I realized that there was so much to sidecuts and board flex. It seems like some of these new board are tapered (narrower tail-correct me if I'm wrong). Are these tapered because the radius opens up and gets bigger at the tail or is the radius difference through the sidecut fairly slight? Does this make it easier to get out of a turn?
  18. Sorry I just bought a board last night. Good luck selling.
  19. I just bought another board! It has begun. I am now the proud owner of a Hot Blast 176. Big sidecut and stiff just for a change. I'm going to be in trouble when my wife gets home! ;)
  20. I used to love riding at fortress. It's closed down?
  21. I love my Nissan Xterra. If it is icy I tend to keep it in 4WD because it is a rear wheel drive and has lots of power. I feel guilty every once in a while for diving a gas guzzler but I forget once it gets me to a nice fishing spot!
  22. Is this board still available? I tried to send you an email but you have it turned off.
  23. Studio Executive Rob Slolom: Wow. 8 Oscars, 400 million dollars at the box office, and you saved Tugg Speedman's career. Les Grossman: I couldn't have done it without you. Studio Executive Rob Slolom: Really? Les Grossman: No, d*******. Of course I could. A nutless monkey could do your job. Alpa Chino: That's the theme song for the Jeffersons! Kirk Lazarus: Man, just cause it's a theme song don't make it not true.
  24. I hope you don't mind but I am going to use this as my signature. I might even make a bumper sticker.
  25. The Three Amigos Amigo - "Bartender give me a Beer Bartender: We don't have beer. Just tequila. Ned Nederlander: What's tequila? Bartender: Uh, it's like beer. or Jefe: I have put many beautiful pinatas in the storeroom, each of them filled with little suprises. El Guapo: Many pinatas? Jefe: Oh yes, many! El Guapo: Would you say I have a plethora of pinatas? Jefe: A what? El Guapo: A *plethora*. Jefe: Oh yes, you have a plethora. El Guapo: Jefe, what is a plethora? Jefe: Why, El Guapo? El Guapo: Well, you told me I have a plethora. And I just would like to know if you know what a plethora is. I would not like to think that a person would tell someone he has a plethora, and then find out that that person has *no idea* what it means to have a plethora. Jefe: Forgive me, El Guapo. I know that I, Jefe, do not have your superior intellect and education. But could it be that once again, you are angry at something else, and are looking to take it out on me?
